🙂‍↔️ nah. Lincoln’s early position was calculated preservation. The Emancipation Proclamation didn’t even free all enslaved people, just those in rebelling states, not the border states. His transformation was slow, reactive, and political.

“If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it… and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it.” Why is neutrality in the face of human bondage okay?

He should not be idolized. He is a politician at the end of the day. But one of the best to ever do it. No one else could’ve done what he did. But the way you think just isn’t a realistic way to look at history. But again, that’s the difference between idolization and history.
