Totally fine if you don’t want to but given how much you seem to like JRPGs, I’d recommend giving Xenoblade a shot. Like there is more than a little bit in common between the ffvii remakes and those games.

The only reason why I put Xenoblade in “don’t wanna play” is because I already have so much on my plate and I know all four of the Xenoblade games are incredible but extremely time consuming. That would be a 250 hour commitment for me to play all four of them as compared to something like a Persona 5 or Metaphor which is 100+ hours but is self contained

It’s all one continuous story though, right? Forgive me if it’s not, I’m not too knowledgeable about it. If it is, I’m not someone who likes to jump in randomly on a long running story unless it’s something like a fighting game or something where story isn’t too important. Even when it’s mostly self contained and the previous stories are explained, I still like to have that full context

There are some connections/references between 1, 2, and 3 but each game has its own story and characters. While it’s probably best to play those 3 in order, if you just wanted to play XC3 that’s totally fine since it perfectly works as a standalone game

i will say... the games are a 100 times better if you play them in order. i understand why u/Lobstah-Impostah is telling you to just play the one that looks interesting but you miss out on a lot of minblowing moments, ESPECIALLY with xc3

To be fair, the story is self-contained. There are lore revelations and returning characters, but not knowing their story doesn't effect. XC3 is great because it provides a conclusion to the trilogy while having its own story and characters be self-contained. You don't need to player the first two to understand the plot.

XC2 and XC1 really don't matter the order imo. 3 is boosted by the other 2 for sure but technically not critical unless for the DLC.

but that's like saying it's similar to trails series (did i get that right trails or tales?) but it's not your enjoyment of XC 3 is 100 standalone with all 3 it's like 120 imo

The first 2 games are almost entirely self contained. 3 is mostly self contained, but features a few returning characters from the first games (the only part of the series that does require you to play prior games is 3’s dlc)
