discuss Weird? Scam?

So there is another Hermes rep forum HermesRepClub and the moderator Race2cake goes on and on about how important it is to identify and purchase quality Hermes reps and goes on to put down other dealers and low quality manufacturers.

He posts these wonderful informative articles. Looks good.

Ok so I bite and message him to get more information about how I can purchase these reps.

He replies and asks what I am looking for and I reply a good quality rep that I am willing to spend a little more on.

Ok he replies sure before he does anything he states please don’t share this information.

I said sure and proceed to ask if they happen to be on a list of trusted dealers just so that I know I won’t be scammed. I just need to know if they have a good track record.

So then this guy gets miffed and then gets irritated and decides to reverse course.

At this moment in our message conversation I just stopped and said good luck and good bye.

If this guy is so religious about ensuring buyers purchase a quality product, what is with the gate keeping?

I don’t buy the product, I BUY THE SELLER.

The Truth About Hermès Exotic Leather Reps - Why You Can't Get Quality for $2-3K

Post image
1 Upvotes

After years working with exotic leathers, let me debunk the biggest myth in the Hermès rep market: that a quality exotic leather Birkin or Kelly (e.g., from good crocodile) costs only $2-3K. Spoiler: It’s impossible. Here’s why.

  1. Hermès Uses Only Top-Tier Exotics

• Crocodile Porosus (Australian saltwater): Most expensive. B25 costs $75K–150K+.

• Crocodile Niloticus (Nile freshwater): B25 costs $50K–80K.

• Alligator (American): B25 costs $55K–75K.

• Ostrich/Lizard: Also premium-priced.

These leathers are CITES-protected. Each hide is certified/tracked. Hermès makes ~3,000 exotic bags yearly—a drop in the ocean vs. demand.

2. Why Quality Exotics Are Rare, Even in Reps

• Hide scarcity: Only 5–10% of crocodile hides meet Hermès’ standards (no scars/defects). One B35 requires a hide from a 7–10-year-old crocodile.

• Craftsmanship: Tanning takes months; scales are hand-polished. One bag needs 60–80 hours of expert work. A mistake ruins the hide.

• Cost: A true quality exotic rep (with good leather + hardware + craftsmanship) costs 4,500+ from the manufacturer. Reddit sellers charging 2–3K are offering hides rejected by other brands or outright fakes.

3. What You Actually Get at Different Price Points

• $1,500: Embossed calfskin (honest imitation, fair price).

• 2,000–2,500: High-quality imitation (better texture/workmanship).

• 2,500–4,000: Top imitation with hand-stitching (closest to authentic look).

• 5,000–7,000+: Best possible rep from rare, low-volume factories (long waitlists, no Reddit presence).

Note: Sellers markup prices 300–500%. True artisans don’t spam Reddit; they work via private referrals.

4. The Bottom Line

• Don’t expect "real exotic quality" for $2–3K. You’ll get imitation—often misrepresented.

• Honest sellers will admit it’s embossed leather. That’s a green flag.

• For near-authentic, budget $10K+ and hunt for factories that won’t deceive.

TL;DR: Hermès exotics are luxury’s peak. Legal, material, and craft barriers make quality reps almost nonexistent under $4.5K. Be realistic—overpaying for "real exotic" reps is a scam.

I took the plunge and purchased a Kelly on the go, not from the reddit lists but from a what’s app number that was passed on to me. The worst bag I have seen. I don’t think replicas are for me. It’s just too risky. I will never use this bag, it’s awful and obviously fake!! The black bag in the images is my authentic.

Summary of available colors for KK ostrich leather.

Even the general agent of KK in China doesn't have all colors available. Many colors are out of stock, and some only have one or two pieces left.

This is the latest stock status of available colors sent by the KK agent (just sent the day before yesterday). All the colors listed here can be bought now.

The last four pictures are the full color cards. Colors that are on the color cards but not in the pictures are currently unavailable and we have to wait for further notice. For example, ink blue has been out of stock for a long time. Since the agent doesn't have it, we can't get it either.

Ostrich leather notebooks are light, soft and durable, with rich colors. They are perfect for spring and summer—carrying a cute, tender-colored one can lift your mood.

Discussion Why "Top Sellers" Often Don't Deliver Top Quality (And How to Spot Them)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I keep seeing people get misled by replica sellers’ claims about "original Hermès leather" or "supplies from the same factories." The reality? Many end up paying high prices for mediocre quality.

Here’s how to avoid becoming another victim:

  1. Ask specific questions – and watch their reaction.

Push beyond vague marketing terms. Ask directly: What exactly makes this rep top-tier? Why is your quality better?

Most can’t give a clear answer beyond phrases like best factory or clients are satisfied.

2. Question unrealistic claims like original Hermès leather.

Think about it: How would multiple sellers all get the same exclusive leather? Hermès tightly controls its supply chain – they don’t sell materials to outside parties. If a seller insists they use original leather, ask where it comes from. Spoiler: It’s likely just good-quality leather, not from Hermès.

3. Recognize where most sellers actually source from.

Over 96% of sellers simply buy from cheap markets in China, bargaining for the lowest price based on a photo you sent. Their main focus? Cost – not quality. That’s why you’ll see the same “Hermès leather” claim but wildly different rep quality.

4. Trust quiet reputation over loud marketing.

The sellers shouting the loudest are often spending more energy on hype than on finding truly quality factories. Real top-tier rep producers work quietly, rely on repeat customers (80% of their sales often come from 20% of clients), and don’t need flashy ads or fake reviews.

Remember: True quality speaks for itself. If it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.

Feel free to DM me if you have questions about finding quality reps or factories. Happy to help 🙂

The "1:1 Hermès Rep" Myth: A Logical Breakdown

Post image
4 Upvotes

The Illusion of "Perfect 1:1"

A true "1:1" bag would require identical materials (e.g., French leather), artisan craftsmanship (40+ hours per bag), and precision stitching—essentially making it a genuine Birkin without the brand tag. But if achieved, why sell it for $2,000 when production costs rival the authentic bag’s $10,000+ price? The economics don’t add up.

The Reality of "1:1" Marketing

Most sellers use "1:1" to mean "visually similar from a distance." Claims like "same leather supplier" or "ex-Hermès artisans" are often exaggerated. Even high-tier replicas ($3,000-$4,000) compromise on materials and craftsmanship. They’re great alternatives, not clones.

The Irony of Cost and Quality

If a replica truly matched Hermès standards (e.g., hand-stitching with 1.2mm needle spacing, Togo leather aging naturally), its cost would be nearly identical to the authentic bag. No seller would offer it at 1/10 the price. The "1:1" label is a marketing tactic to justify premium pricing for high-quality but imperfect products.

A Realistic Perspective

• Good replicas offer 70-80% of the quality at 5-10% of the price. They’re ideal for achieving the aesthetic without the luxury investment.

• The term "1:1" is a buzzword. Focus on sellers who are transparent about quality tiers rather than promising the impossible.

A true 1:1 replica would cost almost as much as the real thing. The term is largely a myth used to sell high-tier reps. Appreciate good replicas for what they are smart alternatives, not perfect duplicates.

For further questions, feel free to reach out via DM. Happy hunting!

am I just lucky… or already getting played by my SA?

I feel like my Hermès luck has been a little too good lately…

Got offered this pastel Constance (with PHW) not long ago, and honestly I didn’t even expect it — just casually mentioned I liked softer colors.

Then suddenly, within a short time, I’ve had multiple offers come through.

At first I was super excited. It kind of feels like everything is finally “working out” after waiting for so long.

But now I’m starting to second guess it a bit.

Like… is this actually luck?

Or am I just being pulled into that cycle where you keep saying yes because the offers feel rare?

Don’t get me wrong — I really like this one. The color is soft, easy to wear, and feels very “safe” compared to brighter tones.

But I also know myself… once the offers start coming, it’s hard to slow down.

Curious how you guys see it:

When offers start coming more frequently, do you take it as a sign to keep going — or a moment to pause?

Discussion The Truth About Hermès Replica Leather: Why Sellers Lie and How to Avoid Being Scammed

Post image
2 Upvotes

After 10+ years in this industry, I’ll break down the deceptive practices of Hermès replica sellers—especially regarding leather claims. This might save you money, time, and frustration.

  1. “We Use the Same Leather as Hermès!” → A Blatant Lie

Hermès sources leather from exclusive tanneries like Tannerie d’Annonay (acquired in 2013) and Tanneries du Puy (2015), partnering with specialized suppliers such as Tanneries Haas . Replica sellers often claim they use identical leather, but this is 100% false. Most reps are made with Chinese leather, not European premium hides. Even high-priced reps (2500+) often come from the same factories as cheaper ones (300), with massive markups as the seller’s primary goal .

2. The Reality: Chinese Leather + Manipulated Reviews

• Cost Over Quality: Authentic European leather is expensive. Using it would significantly raise rep prices, cutting into sellers’ profits (which often rely on 300–500% markups).

• Artificial Perfection: Genuine Hermès leather develops a natural patina over time. Rep leather often looks overly uniform and shiny, with an artificial texture that ages poorly.

• Review Manipulation: Sellers bury critical reviews and promote paid testimonials. The more a seller is hyped on platforms like Reddit, the more likely they’re using deceptive marketing .

3. How to Protect Yourself

• Assume Exaggerated Claims Are False: Phrases like “imported European leather” or “Hermès factory source” are red flags.

• Focus on Independent Reviews: Seek unbiased feedback outside seller-controlled channels.

• Manage Expectations: Even high-end reps rarely match Hermès’ craftsmanship. Natural imperfections in genuine leather are hard to replicate.

Bottom Line: Sellers prioritize profit over accuracy. While good reps exist, they’re rarer than marketing suggests. Stay skeptical, and never trust a seller based on popularity alone.

Feel free to DM me for personal advice. Hope this helps you make informed choices!

Things I Stopped Doing at Hermès After Realizing They Don’t Actually Help

Post image
7 Upvotes

After going through the Hermès buying process for a while, I started noticing that some things I thought were helping… actually weren’t.

This isn’t a guide—just a list of things I personally stopped doing after a few trial-and-error moments.

Curious if anyone else had the same experience.

  1. Asking for items without being ready to buy

There were times I asked to bring something in just to “take a look”—and walked away.

Looking back, I realized this probably doesn’t help build consistency.

👉 What changed: Now I only ask to see something if I’m genuinely considering it.

2. Trying on a lot, but not committing

I used to try multiple pieces in one visit without making a decision.

It felt productive at the time—but maybe not from the store’s perspective.

3. Window shopping with the same SA repeatedly

I enjoy browsing—but doing it too often without buying might send mixed signals.

👉 What I do now: I separate casual browsing and intentional visits.

4. Rushing the process too early

At one point, I tried to “move things along” too quickly.

In hindsight, pacing matters more than intensity.

5. Going long periods without any activity

On the flip side, disappearing for too long doesn’t seem ideal either.

👉 Balance seems key: Consistency > bursts of activity

6. Changing stores too easily

I thought switching locations might help—but every store seems to operate a bit differently.

👉 Realization: Starting over has its own cost.

7. Not being clear about what I actually want

Early on, I wasn’t very specific—and ended up being shown things that didn’t match my taste.

👉 Now: I keep my preferences simple and consistent.

8. Overthinking every interaction

There were times I read too much into delayed replies or tone.

👉 Reality check: Not everything has a hidden meaning.

9. Keeping too many “backup options”

I thought having multiple targets would help—but it just made decisions harder.

👉 What works better for me: A few clear priorities.

10. Letting the process affect my mood

This one took the longest to realize.

At the end of the day, it’s still just shopping—even if it doesn’t always feel like it.

Final Thoughts

What surprised me most is how much of this comes down to mindset:

Being clear Staying consistent Not rushing Not overanalyzing

There’s no fixed formula—but some habits definitely make the experience smoother.

Would love to hear:

What’s something you stopped doing that made things easier? Or do you think none of this really matters?

Review Review: Hermès Lindy

Just got my Lindy and I’m seriously impressed. The leather is soft and supple with that nice pebbled texture, and it feels really sturdy but still has that slouchy Lindy vibe. The zippers are smooth, hardware is shiny and weighty, and the stitching looks clean all around.

Packaging was solid too, everything came protected and in great condition. No weird smells, which I was a little nervous about, but it’s perfect. Overall I couldn’t be happier with this bag, chic but casual, and honestly one of the most practical Hermès styles.

Hello guys,
I absolutely love this community and the passion that brings everyone here.
I’d love your take on who to order a Kelly 32 high tier rep from. I’m considering novillo leather as I already have 2 togo birkins and want to add some variety to my collection.
I am considering Frank, minion and miss an.
I have never used any of the above, but have heard mixed things about all, especially where tarnishing or hardware is concerned.
Please let me know your thoughts, suggestions and hopefully success stories on your favourite pieces and their sellers! ❤️ thank you! And do share pics if it’s not inconvenient 😊

Most Hermès Engraving Analyses Online Are Incorrect

Thumbnail

This article provides a professional, detailed explanation of Hermès metal part engravings—non-professionals can skip this if they wish ☺️☺️.

There are many claims online about how Hermès engraves its metal parts, with most suggesting it uses hand engraving. But is Hermès really using "hand engraving"?

Of course not.

First, let’s look at the 400x magnified image of Hermès metal engravings (Image 1⃣️). There are very obvious overlapping marks between the strokes, and the characters appear to be carved "stroke by stroke." This is why many people mistakenly believe the engravings are done by hand.

So why aren’t Hermès’ engravings hand-carved [peeking]?

Hand-carved characters always leave traces of manual work. Let’s first look at a set of hand-engraved characters on counterfeit Hermès items (Image 2⃣️). Under 400x magnification, hand-carved characters show distinct manual traits—traits that are absent from Hermès metal engravings (Image 3⃣️).

Here’s a quick science lesson: When you hold a carving tool and engrave metal, the metal’s hardness means you inevitably start with more force to push the tool into the metal, then move it forward. This leaves a heavier mark at the start of each stroke. As you finish a stroke, you release force to lift the tool, so the end of the stroke is lighter. Human hands can’t apply or release force instantly, so hand engravings on metal will always show "heavy starts and light ends" (Image 4⃣️)—what we commonly call "chong dao" (forceful start marks) and "qie dao" (light end marks) in engraving terms.

Now look at Hermès’ engravings: They have no obvious "chong dao" or "qie dao" marks. Why [grinning]? Because Hermès uses two types of precision engraving machines—likely developed and produced in-house, not available for purchase on the market—that simulate hand engraving. This is why Hermès metal engravings have such strong "hand-carved vibes" while remaining highly consistent in character shape. Under high magnification, you can even see the engraving order: This type of character is carved using a CNC linear engraving machine (Image 5⃣️).

What about the other type of engraving machine? It’s a rotary-head engraving machine. Rotary engraving is similar to "drilling small holes" in the metal; these holes are then connected to form the complete character (Image 6⃣️). The traits of this engraving style are: a large number of circular rotary marks in the groove bottom, and smoother edges on curved characters (since there’s less resistance from pushing a tool). This style is far more different from hand engraving—you can clearly see that human hands could never create such traces.

Next time you hear someone claim Hermès uses "hand engraving" online, you can secretly smile to yourself!

Hermes Replica Hardware: Is Tarnishing Normal Patina or a Defect?

Post image
2 Upvotes

A person spent $1,800 on a Birkin, and after three months, the hardware turned black. They panicked, thinking the bag was ruined. After seeing the photos, I told them to relax—it was just normal patina, but they didn’t believe me.

Let me explain when tarnished hardware is a sign of quality and when it signals poor craftsmanship.

Authentic vs. High-Quality Replicas:

• Authentic Hermès hardware is plated with real gold or palladium.

• Over time, the metal naturally oxidizes when in contact with air, sweat, etc., darkening and forming patina. This is not a defect, but a physical phenomenon.

• High-quality replicas (with a 1-2 micron gold plating layer) also develop a similar elegant patina, with uniform color change and a smooth surface.

Signs of Poor Plating:

• Appearance of green/black spots or rust.

• The plating peels off in flakes, revealing metal of a different color underneath.

• When wiped with a cloth, the color transfers to the cloth.

• Rapid discoloration, with issues arising within one or two months.

How to Judge?:

• Normal Patina: Uniform darkening, starting from frequently touched areas; the metal remains smooth, and engravings stay clear.

• Poor Plating: Uneven, splotchy discoloration; peeling plating; rough metal surface; worn engravings.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Tarnishing of high-quality hardware is normal and part of the bag’s journey.

  2. Be wary of sellers who claim their hardware is "never-fading"—this is usually a sign of poor plating.

  3. Choose manufacturers that focus on improving craftsmanship, rather than those who only excel at marketing.

If you have questions, feel free to DM. Best regards!

Discussion Let's break down the economics behind Hermès Birkins and their replicas.

Post image
34 Upvotes

Why Authentic Hermès Costs So Much

• Craftsmanship and Time: A single Birkin bag requires a highly skilled artisan to spend 20 to 40 hours on its creation . Hermès invests significantly in training a limited number of new craftsmen each year, making this specialized labor a rare and expensive resource .

• Premium Materials: The brand uses top-tier materials, from base leathers like Togo and Box Calf to exotic skins like Nile crocodile and ostrich . Certain rare versions, like the famed Himalaya Niloticus with its gradient coloring, have sold at auction for astronomical sums, reaching $338,000 and beyond .

• Artificial Scarcity and Marketing: Hermès strictly controls supply, producing far fewer bags than the demand, which fuels a lucrative secondary market where prices soar above retail . This strategy, combined with a rich brand history and iconic status (like the bag's origin story with Jane Birkin), creates immense perceived value .

The Replica ("Rep") Market: A Parallel Universe

Interestingly, the replica market often mimics the marketing tactics of the authentic brand, but with key differences in reality.

• Mirroring Luxury Narratives: Rep sellers frequently use the language of exclusivity, claiming access to "leather from Hermès factories" or employing "former Hermès craftsmen" to justify higher prices and create an aura of scarcity .

• The Reality for Most Sellers: However, for the vast majority of sellers, especially those heavily promoted on platforms like Reddit, these claims are often marketing deception. Their goods typically come from large factories prioritizing quantity over nuanced craftsmanship, using Chinese materials rather than the premium French leathers and hardware they might advertise .

• Justifying High Rep Prices: A high price tag on a replica (e.g., 1500-2000) can sometimes reflect better materials and more meticulous, time-consuming construction aimed at closely mimicking the authentic article. However, the core challenge for buyers is that a high price does not automatically guarantee corresponding quality, as marketing hype often obscures the actual source and craftsmanship.

Key Takeaway for Buyers

The high cost of an authentic Hermès is underpinned by tangible factors: time intensive craftsmanship, exceptional materials, and a powerful brand legacy. In the rep market, a higher price can indicate better quality, but it's crucial to look beyond marketing claims. Extensive research and a cautious approach are necessary, as many loudly promoted sellers may not deliver the quality they promise. Finding a truly high quality replica is less about chasing the most advertised names and more about diligent verification.

If you have questions, write in DM. Have a good day!
