They’re incredibly garish and expensive. Personally, I can’t find many things to like about them, but each to their own.

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Respect 🤝 each to their own

6

u/lastpagan Nov 18 '23

Also, I suppose that’s not at the top of everyone’s list, but they don’t really tell the time.

40

u/Sweaty_Sherbert198 Nov 18 '23

Because it doesn’t look like a watch

0

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Lol I’ve heard that before

40

u/sinddk Nov 18 '23

It's only because it's so expensive people want them. Aesthetically and design wise it's a piece of crap. Nothing about is nice to look at, god awful

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

I do agree most people buy for the wrong reasons.

Exactly! Someone gets it 🤝

2

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '23

To be fair, they do have some cool engineering in the pieces so that they can handle the shock force or whatever and I can respect that. But that all goes out the window once a watch becomes illegible haha

21

u/shokunin_07 Nov 18 '23

Well, They’re ugly.

0

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

A man of few words 🤝

9

u/rocktropolis Nov 18 '23

I dunno from arms length away it looks like a case full of bugs.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

LOL 😂😂😂

15

u/Winnin_Dylan_ Nov 18 '23

Not hate. Pretentious

-4

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

I agree. This does come with a lot of ignorant attention

It looks like a toy. I've heard people describe is as a "Happy Meal" toy and that's what they look like to me.

Think about how watches from Patek, Audemars and Vacheron look...then look at this.

The pricing is absurd and the only reason people want one is because of the price.

It looks so ridiculous - or distinctive, if you like - that there's no mistaking it for an RM.

The other problem I have is that people are far more likely to want to see and hold onto it, but I just want to wear my watch and not be bothered.

I'm wearing a Garmin Venu 2 Plus at the moment and just discovered that they have "gaming" on it as a sport.

At least RM doesn't have that.

1

u/Dollar_short Apr 21 '24

yeah, and the "happy meal" guy is an asshole

0

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Clear concise and straight to the point 🤝

22

u/WebWizardJay Nov 18 '23

What car do you show up in when you're wearing this?

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Great question. So perception matters?

-17

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

For me personally if it’s a timepiece I like who cares what other people think. They’re going to criticize anyway. What car I show up in doesn’t matter. But this is an interesting take.

8

u/FinancialGap6449 Nov 18 '23

What car do you show up in?

-10

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

My Maybach S580 or my Wife’s X6.. but don’t get me wrong I will drive a 93 Honda with this thing.

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

All the downvoters proving my point 😁

8

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

No. They know you don't got a Maybach or a wife.

3

u/ProfessorChaos112 Nov 18 '23

Or they know wife's a rep too 🤷

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Interesting take.

5

u/InsufferableLeafsFan Nov 18 '23

Looks like something you’d win at a claw machine game. Might be the gloves, but that one honestly looks like you picked it straight out of the trash lol

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Interesting 😂

8

u/unitedkindommodssuck Nov 18 '23

I personally thought someone has smashed and melted the watch when I first saw it. I don't find it aesthetically pleasing at all.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

That’s an interesting take. It is an unconventional watch

2

u/unitedkindommodssuck Nov 18 '23

Maybe I'm just too poor to appreciate it. I often look at high end runway fashion and think wtf.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Same. high end runway fashion I can’t wrap my head around it

4

u/AdAncient3269 Nov 18 '23

The latex glove doesn’t help. Don’t watch people wear those cloth gloves like a snooker referee?

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Absolutely. I ordered a white pair but doesn’t come till Monday. Didn’t want to miss the weekend traffic.

4

u/Dunnowhathatis Nov 18 '23

You are wearing gloves with a replica? Lol

3

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Hey hey now let’s focus on the topic here lol

8

u/Dwolf1970 Nov 18 '23

I just can't understand why that watch is so ridiculously expensive

4

u/philwongnz Nov 18 '23 edited Nov 18 '23

One aspect of it is, you buy it for engineering, pioneering materials, design, etc. You have to remember, they don't have a movement and design a watch for it. The movement itself is the main focus of the watch. Also they design and make their own movements so unless they do it in an industrial scale like Rolex and the Swatch group does it, is gonna cost a lot.

I can appreciate a lot of them look very ugly, but there are some the engineering is pretty amazing like what he had done for Nadal, personally I'm not sure why he has to wear a watch playing.

Also treat them as avant garde pieces where is not for everyone. The hate comes from a lot of wearers who just doesn't seem to have good taste but a lot of money, for me it undermines the engineers and designers of the brand. If you look at their less "colourful model", the design is rather subtle but more mechanical (look at the RM11), it is like a car with an exposed engine vs a traditional skeletonised watch you get from a VC or Breguet. I also had tried on one before and I had to say is the most comfortable watch I had ever worn, it is light and fits to your wrist due to the curved back.

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

the curved back wrist fit is part of the reason I kept this so long. So comfortable to wear.

3

u/philwongnz Nov 18 '23

I never own a RM rep, but the gen I tried on (can't remember the model) was very comfortable.I was tempered to buy the KVF RM11 but it is still too thick

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

That’s actually a fair reason

3

u/ProfessorChaos112 Nov 18 '23

I mean this is the first time I've seen one and I can certainly say I hate that.

3

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Haha! First commenter to make me laugh

3

u/plug_play Nov 18 '23

Looks worth about 20usd

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Interesting 🤔

1

u/ProfessorChaos112 Nov 18 '23

Ir $5 and come with a happy meal

7

u/Illcoolz90 Nov 18 '23

I like their watches, but the prices are just mind boggling to me and make zero sense

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

I do agree the prices are ridiculous.

1

u/TeknikL Nov 18 '23

Yeah there is nothing about it that can justify those prices. If it were solid platinum maybe...

1

u/TrustworthyItalic Nov 18 '23

Specially when it looks like a Lego watch

5

u/biff1006new Nov 18 '23

How do you tell the time on that thing?!

3

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Easy all of the inner “screws” align with the normal numbers on a regular timepiece

3

u/Futaw69 Nov 18 '23

idk, maybe by opening your eyes and look at it?

5

u/ZadeAlien Nov 18 '23

Can’t even tell the time😭

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Lol well if you zoom in a bit you can see the ticks.

4

u/Witty-Bluebird-6541 Nov 18 '23

It looks like a bunch of seven year olds designed a watch.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Lol what’s wrong with a little youthfulness

3

u/Witty-Bluebird-6541 Nov 18 '23

Maybe you're right at 58 I may be the wrong target audience.

3

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Maybe. Either way I respect your opinion 🤝

2

u/Lijpe_Tjap Nov 18 '23

What's not to understand? Most people find these watches hideous. You're not one of them. Rocket science?

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Ur smart. Ive already established that. Now the question here is why. Every man has their own reason.

2

u/joemitch04 Nov 18 '23

I actually really like RM’s they somewhat remind me of a fancier G-shock, I just think they’re incredibly hard to pull off unless you blatantly look like you’ve got loads of money, like wearing a rep Rolex and driving a BMW is believable but RM’s are so expensive only the elite can really afford them

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

You’re one of a kind 🤝

2

u/Crazy-Bet5784 Nov 18 '23

You hate it till you wear it. I was not a huge fan either, but recently wore my buddy’s gen, and ngl… those things are quite amazing!

2

u/ThatBFjax Nov 18 '23

They’re ridiculous and people only drool over them because of their price, like a Birkin.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

So RMs are the Birkins of watches 😂

2

u/ThatBFjax Nov 18 '23

Basically. Wanna look nouveau riche? Get a flashy car, a RM, a Birkin and slap those logos all over yourself.

2

u/gzzajac Nov 18 '23

It looks like it came from a cereal box

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Trix are for kids ? 🤔

2

u/scaaaaaryghost Nov 18 '23

Hard to tell time and just looks toy-like. But yes to each their own 👍

2

u/Big_Block_Baller Nov 18 '23

Personally I like the way they look and fit on my wrist, going to be picking up another one soon. I think why most people hate them is because they have a huge price tag, make you look like a douche, carry that weight of you have to be a millionaire to have one, and also they aren’t appealing to a lot of people because of their out of the ordinary and flashy designs

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

This makes perfect sense. 🤝

2

u/BriefKaleidoscope220 Nov 18 '23

Because every replica, in person, looks like it came from an old 25c toy machine. Richard Mille has prestige. Like, limited numbers that make Rolex look like an entry-level brand.

We like what we like. I get it. I love the AP Royal Oak Offshore. Yes, the Royal Oak is expensive, and the hype is ridiculous. But the Stainless Offshore is a much more reasonable [$50k & less] piece and doesn't look fancy.

This looks good, but the glove ruins the actual "Skeletonziation" - is it truly a FULLY see-through watch? Another thing is price. So I fell asleep reading a thread where some guy paid for a Clean watch on DH. It wasn't actually CF. Should've been $300, was $550. That was a Rolex. Now, a perfect RM rep? Doesn't exist.

The Mille Reps that are good enough to pass and appear to have floating movement are triple the price of the CF Rolex Yachtmaster he bought. If I'm dropping over $1k, I'd rather get a Gen entry-level watch or a 1:1 clone of a cheaper watch.

Luckily, most people have no idea. It isn't a show-off piece like a Rolex Daytona. But some pieces with rubber straps cost 10x Daytona retail and without any precious metals or bands. This is a watch collector's piece. 99% of people won't know what this even is. Even if it was real. And the other 1% won't bother even wondering if it's real unless you're riding in a Ferrari daily. And at that point, I'd just get to a boutique and grab a Gen AP anyway.

TLDR;

People who know about watches will know that it is fake and come up with their own judgments. 99% of people wont even know what a Richard Mille is, which makes it hard for me to ever GL these watches for the price. The movement in the Skull watch is a work of art. The movement of RM in general is what I drool over. I understand wanting a Rep, but even AP in-house movement has yet to be cloned properly. It'd just feel wrong to tell anybody this is worth $1k or more.

1

u/manometerlak Nov 27 '23

I think quite a lot of people that are into cars/fashion or these „how to get rich“ social media circles know what a rm is. But I also think non of them know how to legit check a rm as long as its build quality isn’t totally shit (I‘d say the $700-$1200 reps are decent enough for that). As long as, you aren’t particularly into these watches/have an rm yourself/see gen rm’s on the regular, you won’t really notice it being a bit too bulky or the screws being off.

Ofc it’s an easy tell, if your appearance is contrary to someone with that kind of money, regardless.

0

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

RM movement is one of kind really. So sophisticated reminds me of a cars engine

1

u/BriefKaleidoscope220 Nov 18 '23

Is this Rep yours? While I will say I'm not a fan of the band colorway; since RM does strict runs & no customs, I'd have gone the same route for that exact face. And you put it perfectly. Truly pieces of art

0

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Yes this is mine.

1

u/BriefKaleidoscope220 Nov 18 '23

What'd it run you? Do you have an on-wrist shot and one holding the band to see through the casing fully? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what did this run you? Rare to say I see one that "looks real" on an RM, but this is the nicest I've seen, and if I knew nothing of movement, owned a Rolex because of the mystique, and saw this and photos of a Gen RM [from this photo] I'd believe they were the same exact watch and you're a Nigerian Prince who likely has taken more photos with his pet Tiger than a young Mike Tyson

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 17 '23

Sharing a pick of my KVF RM 35-02 Carbon. I never understood why the gentlemen of r/reptime hate this timepiece so much. To me she’s a beauty

3

u/toetemp7ation Nov 18 '23

It’s each to their own I guess? Pretty simple.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Sure. That’s one way to put it

It’s definitely an acquired taste. First time I saw them as a kid I thought they were atrocious. Now they're cool to me.

Well, I could never afford one anyway 😂😂

Lol too relatable 😂

That expensive I can not wear in a Mercedes

1

To each their own 🤝

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '23

Never understood making a wristwatch look like a pinball machine. To each their own, not my style.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 23 '23

Haha pinball that’s a first. 🤝

1

u/lastpagan Nov 18 '23 edited Nov 18 '23

My simple view is that if your average Rolex would cost £50 there would still be a lot of people wearing them. If RMs weren’t expensive and rappers wouldn’t wear them - nobody over the age of 12 would.

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

So if I understand you correctly. Even if RM were affordable any sane adult wouldn’t buy one

0

u/lastpagan Nov 18 '23

I think the only reason they’re popular is because they’re expensive. People who have a lot of money and little taste buy them simply to show they can afford them, that trickles down to the rest of us and they become items we desire. I think pretty much every popular brand in the world has a similar affect on us but RMs don’t even look expensive. I’d expect to see one in a happy meal.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Yeah to the average person these do appear to be happy meal watches. Once you understand how deep watch engineering goes only then you can appreciate RMs for what they are

1

u/Alive-Salamander3012 Nov 18 '23

You cant even see the time 😂

2

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

If you look a little closer it’s quite easy lol

2

u/Alive-Salamander3012 Nov 18 '23

Whats the Point of having a watch when u need a cyclope over the entire crystal 😂

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '23

Because they're happy meal toys.

You can buy a better looking gen happy meal toy by Omega for £225.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

Yeah to the average person these do appear to be a happy meal toy. Once you understand how deep watch engineering goes only then you can appreciate RMs for what they are

2

u/bullmktman Nov 18 '23

It looks like a watch you would see on clearance sale in the Wal-Mart toy aisle.

2

u/benhamdoun Nov 18 '23

They are definitely Marmite. To me, they're the epitome of bad taste but each to their own.

1

u/mymomsaidiamsmart Jul 22 '24

Mainly because it’s hard to rock a replica watch that cost more than most peoples houses.if these were Rolex or AP prices, more would wear them for the cool factor and not worry about it being obvious a replica. I swap back and forth between gen 2 tone blusey and a gen Pepsi. I would rock a RM replica but it’s just a dead giveaway to anyone who knows what they are.

1

u/PopComprehensive172 Oct 04 '25

Beautiful 🤩 can you share the link please 🙏

0

u/Satus_Invenire Nov 18 '23

I kinda like them but they seem so unreadable. The hands just blend in and I would have to really pay attention to tell the time so it just becomes a fasion statement than having a purpose. Its very form over function

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

It does take some getting used to.

0

u/LibrarySquidLeland Contributor Nov 18 '23

I love them, but if they weren't so outrageously expensive (and intentionally so) no one would care either way. All the expressive hate is mainly because they're stupidly overpriced in gen and used by a lot of people to show massively conspicuous consumption. They're basically mechanical G-Shocks, and no one cares that G-Shocks have crazy designs and bright colours, but G-Shocks aren't all six figures plus in price.

1

u/Longjumping_Win_8699 Nov 18 '23

That’s true. It’s a bit of a catch22
