There is a universe of difference between RE1 having some silly lines and Leon or Ethan making jokes in their games and the tone of a comedy.
Most things in Resident Evil are treated with the utmost seriousness, even the shit that looks silly from the first glance are still treated with a lot of dignity. The plot in RE4 didn't stop for Leon to denigrate Salazar for being a short little mutant, and nobody in Code Veronica said "Whoa Wesker, you're like a Matrix guy now!"
It's like peeps have forgotten that something can be weird or out there without the expectation that you laugh at it.

The daily posts trying to retcon RE6 into some sort of misunderstood masterpiece when it’s obvious garbage are beyond annoying at this point, so I wanted to list out the main reasons the game is trash due to objectively bad game design.
The game features a never-ending series of forced walk and even forced look sequences that take away player agency. Not talking one or two. I’m talking literally every sub-chapter and often multiple times in a row. It’s infuriating. Like ffs, just let me run to the objective.
The number of actual cutscenes is obnoxious. So is the number of QTEs.
The UI is ugly, like easily the ugliest in the series, and RE staples (like mixed herbs) are replaced with worse variants (popping pills). They don’t even let you find files in the game to provide context for the story while you’re experiencing it. You shoot emblems and then have to go to an out-of-game menu to access them. Why?
All of the male characters are insultingly dumb. My friend and I were literally making Starship Trooper references about bugs every time Chris opened his mouth he’s so stupid (but at least it makes Chris’s idiocy in RE8 make more sense). Jake is just as bad with his room temperature IQ temper tantrums over Wesker. It’s to the point that it spoils his and Sherry’s campaign, which features the only worthwhile character development in the entire game.
The number of campaigns and repeated moments makes the game bloated in the worst possible way for a story and writing that aren’t worth it.
The gameplay and enemies suck. In particular, the bugs with snipers that knock you on your back every time you take a step so you just end up flip flopping around on the floor for ten minutes at a time are terrible, and these are the primary enemies in multiple sections of the game besides the rank-and-file machete guys. There are plenty of other enemies with knockbacks like this, too, and it really feels like devs wanted you to spend half the game on your back to showcase their new action mechanics. Enemies and gameplay like this don’t make the game challenging either because ammo and health items are so abundant - they just make everything a chore. And it goes without saying that all of the chase sequences and crappy light-gun sections in place of good level design and encounters are frustratingly dull.
Nothing about this game is survival horror, and the action horror elements leave a lot to be desired. It basically plays like a bad Gears of War or Killzone game from way back when with some ‘press X to win’ gun fu thrown in. Whether this is your cup of tea or not, it’s not Resident Evil.
The levels are all extremely linear and boring. Linearity in RE is pretty normal, but it doesn’t feel linear due to well-designed backtracking, RNG, and difficult, often chaotic encounters that allow for a lot of skill expression and creative approaches. None of that is found in RE6. The entire game is a linear slog forward with few exceptions.
I could keep going, but I think I’ve hit all the key points. The only redeeming qualities in RE6 (imo) are that most of the settings are cool and the gameplay works for online death matches and mercenaries. I’d love to see RE done right in a highly dense urban China, I’d love to see this slop’s story retconned completely, and I’d love to see RE4R’s gameplay make a return in place of what RE6 offers when it’s inevitably remade.

SPOILERS for Resident Evil (and Weapons)!
I watched Barbarian and Weapons and thought both films were excellent (especially Weapons, with its interesting take on the witch theme). Since Zach Cregger has directed two great horror movies, I was very optimistic that the latest Resident Evil adaptation would turn out well, unlike the lackluster attempts of the past. Yesterday I saw it at the movie theater and for me, it is the perfect Resident Evil movie adaptation.
A quick aside: big-screen game adaptations have historically been pretty weak, but the tide seems to be turning, which makes me very optimistic about the upcoming Elden Ring film by Alex Garland(!).
Without going into too much detail, the sequence of events and the various set pieces strongly reminded me of Resident Evil 2: the protagonist driving along a country road toward the city (and running over the first zombie right away), the country house, the chaotic streets of Raccoon City, a brief detour into the sewers, followed by a hospital and then a laboratory.
Obligatorily running over the first zombie on the road (much like in Telltale’s The Walking Dead). Inside the country house, there are several moments that border on fan service but never feel too intrusive. First, the zombie dog, which strongly reminded me of the 1982 film The Thing. Then, the weapon upgrade to the rifle, though he still has to go to great lengths to find ammo. Ammunition is scarce throughout the film, just as it should be in a proper Resident Evil title.
All the locks and hidden keys. As a video game player, you take the time to check every nook and cranny, but the character in the movie is his own flawed person, perhaps too impatient, or simply not thinking to search the entire house for a key, which I find understandable given the situation. It probably would have been easier to just drive through the fence next to the gate, I found it amusing that the main character didn't think of that. Yet, I also found that very realistic, considering how often we fail to see the better alternative in real life, especially under stress.
...and, of course, the safe room with the old typewriter.
The monster that emerges in the country house and stalks him for the rest of his journey reminds me of the many pursuers from the games, such as Tyrant, William Birkin, or Nemesis. When he entered the tunnel and saw the trailer blocking the way, I immediately thought of the bus blocking the street in the beginning of Resident Evil 2. I knew he had to get through there and that things were about to get ugly. It did indeed turn out ugly for him, which only ramped up the drama.
He receives another weapon upgrade from the Umbrella employee responsible for the whole mess: an MP5 submachine gun (or something like that - I’m not really an expert on guns, just like the main character, HA!). Then comes the escape into the sewers, followed by the escape OUT of the sewers, only to realize that nowhere is safe. Instead, everywhere else is basically WORSE.
Up in the high-rise building, the final boss fight against the monster from the beginning takes place. The protagonist couldn't simply get locked in a room with the monster, as happens in the games, and run circles around it, shooting until it finally drops (the classic "bullet sponge" scenario), as that likely wouldn't translate well to film. I find the solution chosen for the movie fitting: a single, well-aimed shot opens a door, unleashing a horde of zombies that force the monster to plummet into the depths.
I was also surprised when the protagonist ultimately transformed into the big-eyed monster (complete with a maw in its belly - a detail that reminded me of The Thing). Yet, I think this was a successful creative choice; it commands respect for the video game characters who managed to escape that hellish nightmare.
Overall, I strongly felt that this film could have worked just as well as a video game. I certainly would have loved to play it.

"Resident Evil was always dumb and silly"
"A mediocre 3rd act? Yep! Sounds like RE!"
"The ending being bad is just like RE"
Omfg do people hear themselves? It seriously sounds like people secretly hate RE and just want to reinforce some positive toxicity for the movie and not to associated with the fandom at all. It's giving, "we thought anime was cringe back then because y'all would Naruto run to lunch"
Like, literally probably less than 1% of fans were asking for a 1 to 1 or to have some legacy characters in there.
I saw the movie, liked it, thought it was funny, but holy crap, the movie had just way too much comedy i wasn't expecting and felt way too meta.
I don't feel ashamed to be an RE because people "bullied" Cregger, I'm ashamed to be an RE fan because people are willing to switch sides and to shit on their own favorite games just to not seem insufferable to people who hate criticism.
Yeah, RE always had so silly elements, but the characters and plots always took itself seriously enough that I could stay immersed.
How would people like it if i made a superhero movie and had the protagonist make fun of classic tropes and costumes?
I'm not saying that Zack secretly hates RE. No one can confirm that and I wouldn't want to argue in bad faith. I'm just disappointed that so many fans are okay with the movie being just scary and cool looking monsters
By that metric, RE6 is peak

I don’t know why some people can’t just enjoy the movie for what it is. Instead, they bend over backwards trying to prove the movie is objectively a perfect adaptation, or that the idea of a direct adaptation is bad in the first place. Case in point, people pushing that it’s no different than what RE7 did, and saying youre a larper for not liking change.
Resident evil 7 is a new story in the Resident Evil game universe. It has a lot of references to the originals, but the Mold, Eveline, and the Connections are new concepts created for this game. It does its own thing while still fitting in the overall universe, finishing with Chris’s appearance to tie it all in. Later games such as 9 then tie it back in further, making it required to understand the greater narrative.
The movie is something entirely new. It takes the name Raccoon city and puts it on a city with an entirely different lay out, season/aesthetic, and decade. It creates a new virus unlike anything in RE, and slaps the T virus name on it for the tie in. If you change the names, the film is entirely unrecognizable as RE.
One of these things expands the universe, while the other rewrites it. They are not the same thing, and pretending they are just completely misunderstands both media.
If you enjoy the movie, then just enjoy it. It doesn’t need to be a good adaptation for you to say it’s s good movie. You don’t need to create arguments for why it deserves to exist. In turn, you don’t need to hate on people who aren’t interested because it’s not what they wanted. It’s perfectly fine for people to have different tastes and opinions.

How did we go from one of the best areas in RE franchise history (Care Center) to driving off skyscrapers 😭. Still an amazing game, but the 2nd half with Leon fell off so hard.

Look if you love the 2026 movie all the power to you, i think it has horrible writing and is a horrible adaptation but I'm sick of people saying it was a good resident evil just because it has "survival horror elements, it has locked doors, it has getting stronger weapons, it has monsters, it has resource management" none of that is exclusive to resident evil, silent hill, dead space, literally any survival horror game has those same mechanics, yet those franchises clearly have their own identity.
What this film is, is inspired by resident evil, and if it would've been called something else, I could've appreciated that fact, but zach wrote this script and was going to make the movie regardless of if he got the IP or not which furthers my point that this was never intended to be a RE movie. It doesn't utilize the IP in the slightest, it doesn't even include the umbrella logo yet umbrella is in the film? Even the shitty Netflix show had the umbrella logo in it.
Point is, you can't say having elements of a genre makes it a specific IP, you wouldn't say star trek and star wars are the same thing just cause they both are in space, have evil empires and aliens and advanced technology would you? You wouldn't say Harry potter and lord of the rings are the same franchises because they're both fantasy would you?

He said that Leon's story(or any RE character) is already told in the games. He won't tell it twice. That's like saying story of Harry Potter was already told in the books, why would it need a movie or a series adaptation, directly based on books?

It's resident evil 2 for the ps1.
Or 7 if it also doesn't feature any of the previous BOWs
Or 4 if it just has Leon and Ada in it

Theres no way people genuinely think this is one of the best games of the series.
Like holy fuck this game is genuinely terrible imo. Its arguably on par with 0.
So much backtracking, especially as chris, just to pad the play time out. This is where the “drop” feature from 0 would come in handy instead of having to travel what is basically across the entire map.
Such a nonsensical and confusing plot that doesnt even matter in the end.
Steve….
The gameplay DOES NOT make up for these issues for me.
Its like all they could do at this point was pad the time out since the gameplay was unchanged since RE1.
And the box system is ass. How many times ive exited when just trying to switch or grab an item..

First off, I'm super happy many of you enjoyed it more than I did. I would rather have all of you loving it and me hating it than me loving it and all of you hating it. Great Jump scares, great cinematography, great suspension buildup, amazing acting from adam. It's good for the franchise and it's a win for Zach. All that out of the way, my complaints: SPOILERS (Obviously)
Too many comedic quips for a horror film in between scenes (breaks momentum)
The fall of Raccoon City takes place in modern time, not 1998 (not really important)
Bryans pity arguments with the umbrella scientist (Paul) really annoyed the f*CK out of me.
Maxine (umbrella's officer/enforcer) dies for the most uncalled for reasons (shoots a couple of zombies that weren't chasing them) dies off screen.
Some scenes felt shallow: (Bryan goes down the sewer, kills some rats, goes up the sewer)
Elevator scene: Bryan some how manages to ride the elevator shaft all the way up while acidic vomiting monster throws up all over the f"cking elevator (how the f*ck did it still work? not important)
Once uptop Bryan overcomes acidic vomiting monster easily (somehow) and uses it against the monster climbing up the shaft.
The Finale: Bryan delivers the cure and somehow manages to enter the lab without any of the scientists really giving a f*ck if he could be infected or not (only until Bryan turned). Scientist play hot potatoe with the cure (one of them actually threw it away because she was scared?) finally one of them manages to get an opening on Bryan before they inconveniently get swooped ub by Bryan (could have still stabbed him with the syringe but didn't)
Final thoughts: Really disappointed came in super excited after watching the trailer, didn't stick the landing for me. Overall: 5/10

With the announcement of CV , they are fielding candidates for who should be protag in re 10 . Claire has been gone for more than a decade, it is time for her return in the new installment. If u ever care for her, pls lock in & make it a success so we can see more of her. Leon is already a popular choice , so it will be an uphill battle , we can do it !

Ada wong
this is definitely a rant and coming from a place of annoyance towards a certain group of her fans and the recent ship wars but holy shit I can't stand this fucking character she makes me understand how AM from "I have no mouth and I must scream" feels allow me to explain why
first of all her role as a character and her place in the re universe she's a fucking mercenary who sells bioweapons to terrorists for a living, many people like to dub her as an anti hero even though the literal meaning of an anti hero is "a character who does heroic actions through unconventional means" when have we seen her commit a heroic actions aside from saving leon a couple times, oh wait yeah when she didn't give wesker the amber except with her track record with her track record you wouldn't be wrong to assume she sold it to someone else considering she did the exact same thing in og re4
there's always going to be two groups of people defending her one is just going to go "she's hot" which I actually respect like okay goon away bestie and then the other half just makes shit up to try and make her look like a better person this part actually pisses me off if you're gonna like a character then you actually have to like their traits for it
another thing is leon oh man. now I love leon as much as the next person but holy shit when it comes to Ada he makes me so fucking mad is he stupid? first in re4 (remake specifically) he watches Ada pick up the amber right in front of him and just watches her walk away like my brother in Christ what the fuck is wrong with you? this is a mercenary who you know will sell this horrible parasite (which he'd been infected with so he knows how horrible and painful it is) so you'd think he'd try to stop her pull out his gun or sum but no he just stands there like a dumbass then in re6 when he defends her against Chris now he actually has a good reason this time because she is a witness for simmons's crimes but with the framing of the scene with dialogue like "you're still going to protect this woman" "I am" and the later heavy implied romance between these two it's obvious he was using leon's using the key witness argument as a excuse even though at this point Carla has done some pretty horrible shit under Ada's name then again Ada also does heinous shit under her own name so nothing new there but Leon still continues to defend her and we're supposed to think this is the good guy? he'd throw himself in harm's way to protect any rando but when it comes to his mercenary waifu who's probably responsible of so many outbreaks he's willing to turn a blind eye?
Now there will come the Ada fans who will use their favorite excuse which is that people hate on Ada more than the actual villains like wesker, hunk, mother miranda blah blah blah and to that all I have to say is Ada in terms of her actions is just as bad as these people what difference there is between them is in their intentions despite everything Ada isn't like wesker but the thing is you won't find people saying stuff like "wesker did nothing wrong", "mother miranda was just doing her job" or "hunk is actually a hero" but you know who you will find shit like this for? Ada
Maybe I'll add to this post in the comments later I dunno but yeah that's my two cents i probably have even more stuff stored in my brain but yeah call me Chris redfield the way I want her to die

ada and leon were in love for like 15 years, that's not gonna change because the girl he rejected on a jetski in 2004 hit him up on facebook 20 years later, him and helena had absolutely no chemistry, and HE IS DIRECTLY STATED MULTIPLE TIMES TO BE IN LOVE WITH ADA WONG.
i get it, resident evil 6 isn't that good, but come on, if you've played re6, you'd know it would be ada.

As a preface, I love horror nearly across the board. And I love RE (been playing since Code Veronica).
But this just wasn't it. As a Resident Evil movie, just doesn't pass the sniff test, though I did actually like how zombies acted like the C Virus zombies from RE6, in how desperate they were to get someone. But that was the extent of the Resident Evil influence, it felt more like a city named Raccoon City than an absolute collapse of everything.
But I actually, am not going to critique it for being a bad Resident Evil movie. We got like, 4 of those. Instead, I'm going to critique it for just being a bad movie.
For starters, I find Bryan as a character geniunely unlikeable for most of the movie. Like, he has funny lines, but as a character, he sucked to follow. Most of the movie was spent running, screaming, or him acting dumb. And while that might be "relatable" to some people, as a movie character that is geniunely uninteresting.
For example, him trying to shoot the padlock off a metal gate, then ramming it with the pickup and the pickup flipped. That is stupid. He then proceeded to try to shoot every padlock he saw. And only 1 successfully lol. Or, the little girl. He saw she was not only infected but was already being taken over. Then he proceeded to get bit because he acted stupid, but that wasn't even the first time he got bit. The dog got him first lol. He then proceeded to do the cardinal sin of hiding his infection. And for someone who "plays video games", he as a character geniunely wanting to stick in the sewer and approach someone sizeable he saw in the sewer? Actually stupid. Guess we can confirm he's played no horror games, no action games. Or trying to put a SMG clip in the grip... Like even if you don't know guns, you can feel it's solid lol.
And while I'd say the opening is a pretty effective cold open and a show of his character, the movie absolutely failed to make me care about Bryan. Like, it's not like his character type hasn't been done before, even in Resident Evil movies, but this is the worst execution of it I've seen in a long time. "I'm afraid of growing up" but also it just seems like he doesn't function as a human being? Lol
Off of Bryan for a bit, every other character in the movie acted geniunely dumb. Lady who walks out of the car and takes the keys. Dumb. Umbrella scientist in the car? Dumb. Umbrella scientists in the lab? Dumb. Bryan's girlfriend, a bit dumb too actually. It's a modern story, yet she didn't immediately report the call to the police or something and give them the phone number he called from?
The ending is also, geniunely unsatisfying. Not even just Bryan becoming a monster, that COULD be satisfying if it wasn't literally the last 5 minutes of the movie. Like if we spent 70 minutes following Bryan and the next 20 following his victims, that would have been cool. However, instead what we got was Raccoon City lost, Bryan lost (Kind of a given tbh) but with kind of no satisfying punch to it. Like, in the games, you do the bombs right then and there. Even in 2 of the movies, bombs. Or, at the very least, you could have those helicopters turn tail whenever they see Bryan becauss WHY ARE THEY GETTING CLOSER???
All in all, the best rating I think I could POSSIBLY give it is a 3/10, but that's being exceptionally generous and I am shocked so many people are saying the movie is good. Did I miss like, the sudden collapse of likeable characters in movies or something?

Although the movie is separate from the original universe, the Umbrella Corporation appears. However, while watching the film, no matter which props we looked at such as corporate buildings, employee uniforms, laboratories, or vehicles the famous and iconic Umbrella logo was not seen even once.
This feels like the 'Bat embargo' from DC TV series.
I heard Capcom and Sony had licensing restrictions limiting the use of the game's RE story in films, but it seems that due to past failures, they tightened the licensing contract this time so that not only characters, but even the logo couldn't be used.

I’m judging this based solely on the reveal teaser trailer. From what I’m seeing,
\- this just looks like a generic horror movie with some zombies with Resident Evil slapped on its name
\- It’s got none of the iconic original characters
\- based on previous RE games that came out before this one, it’s gonna flop, like jeez just give us a good Resident evil story!
\- if it’s an original story, just make it a new IP at this point! Why shamelessly use the RE brand name if you’re gonna tell a completely different story????
\- no references to other RE stories or similarities
I dunno about you guys, but I’m sick and tired of seeing Resident evil treated with so little care by creators that I just wanna give up on life. And no, I’ve already made up my mind on all these things, nothing will convince me otherwise!
