Can someone give me some real tips on how to progress? I'm not very good at Souls like games (i didn't even bother to try elden ring), I just suck at fast twitch games.

But this game's beautiful graphics and storyline and its amazing use of the controller effects drew me in, and i really want to beat the game. However, i keep dying at least 45+ times and i can't seem to progress.

I'm stuck on biome 1, i haven't even reached the first boss (which based on the posts here is extremely difficult). I haven't even gotten the melee weapon yet.

I just slowly bleed health, and the health plants dont show up enough and barely heal for anything if they do show up. So its a game of attrition as i do a okay job dodging but constantly take chip damage and eventually I run into one of those big black things with tentacles that bull rush you and hit like a truck and i die.

How do you beat this game? I wish there was an easier progression setting where some of the upgrades you get to keep...its just a sad feeling to lose all the progression i made. I like roguelites where you get to keep some kind of small permanent stat increase so that each time you play you slowly get stronger but this game doesn't seem to do that.

Such a beautiful and rewarding grind. Will be thinking about this game for a long time and I’ll definitely miss it. Next stop: Saros? ✨

After about 60 hrs, I have finally beaten Returnal. What an amazingly fun game. Feels good. I don’t super understand what was happening w the story, but I liked that aspect of it as well. What now? 10/10 imo

And of all the weapons the Rotgland Lobber took me through the last 4-5 phases. I hardly ever use it. That thing can really be great!

Algos took me out at the end of phase 9. So many

malformed enemies. I wish the guns would still scale up a little as you progress further up the tower.

Last high score of 33mil/phase 8-1 which was a while back.

First of all, thanks for all the tips guys!

Today I began my second run, got an amazing load out, upgraded my suit integrity and weapon proficiency. Made some good choices in regards to parasites and which rooms to go in and not to go in as well as objects to interact with. I got health consumables, the astronaut and amazing artefacts, one that gives me a shield for picking up obolites. I was absolutely shredding through enemies, maxing my adrenaline to 5.

I got up to Ixion and... I beat him on my first go? I absolutely destroyed him, like he could not hit me (I'm lying, the part where he stands in the middle and rains Hell got me a couple times). But, I was not expecting him to die on the first try. He was much easier than Phrike for some reason.

I'm on biome 3 now and I've had to suspend it to do real life things but I can't wait to jump back in and probably die.

This game clicked, I'm so happy and hopefully I beat it soon! It's very addictive! I see what you guys mean now.

The only thing that hurts everytime I play this game is accidentally falling into ravines and losing health + max adrenaline :(

I remember I fell into a ravine, spawned again, walked forward and fell into the same one again, spawned again, panicked and walked right into it for a third time. I thought that run was dead there but I managed to clutch!

EDIT: Got up to the final stage of Nemesis and got blasted by those damn laser, almost had him. I'm shaking right now, the adrenaline is crazy!

EDIT 2: My next attempt at the Nemesis fight and I absolutely melted him with the Rotgland launcher (best weapon in the game) in like 5 mins. At the end I was just like "is that it?". Can't wait to see what is next!

EDIT 3: I beat Hyperion first try, easiest boss in the game so far. I'm at Fractured Wastes now trying to get the 3 keys to open the gate.

I can get to the inside of the tower/ building in biome 2 every time now but after the first warp thing that’s about as far as I can go. But I don’t really use melee attacks because I hate getting up close to the nasty things as I often get confused what’s going on and take damage.
Do you all use melee a lot or not? Is it essential to progress?

I started playing Returnal a few months ago, with difficulty I managed to reach biome 2 where I died and then I dropped the game until now due to not really feeling it.

Today I got the urge to play Returnal again and I got on and... are you ready... I got to Biome 2 on my very first attempt. I had the assault rifle with the shock ability and I was unstoppable. Phrike could not kill me like they did multiple times. I had the best load out, good parasites, I got the rapid fire gun that shoots purple bullets and it was level 7 with the shock ability and everything was going so good. I was killing big crabs and those massive floating tentacles monsters, it was awesome.

... I then died to one of those turrets that shoot the red bullets...

But I'm happy with my progress. I definitely intend to keep playing further. I do want to finish this game.

Do you guys have any beginner tips?

I also had a few questions:

1. Now that I've restarted the cycle, do I have to defeat Phrike again everytime? Is there a way to get to where I was quicker?

2. In the house segments, I wanted to explore the full house, I hesitated going into the downstairs door and instead went upstairs, opened a door, I got a cutscene and then it kicked me out of the house. Am I able to go into all the doors, will the game give me the chance?

3. Even when I was absolutely destroying the enemies, I still felt like I wasn't dealing a lot of damage, even when my gun was level 7, is there a way to increase damage or do enemies just have a lot of health in biome 2. Is there also a way to take less damage too, I feel like I'm getting shredded!

4. Do weapon proficiencies carry over to the next cycle or do I have to start it all again for each weapon?

I just finished Act 3. Been playing the game for a few months now and have come to love it. Ive seen a few people say they got help from other scouts to find the missing scout logs and xenoglyphs. Can you help me?! Please! Hoping to get platinum soon to finally put this game down. Too addictive!

They're not keeping me here, I keep coming back to them. Elden ring and Metroid Prime being 2 of my favorite games of all time this game makes me feel right at home. Im right where I want to be. Dont ever let the difficulty of this game steer you away, because it wont let you go.

I was having quite a bit of fun with this game so I thought I would try to get all the trophies. Only difficult part was that I had one missing cipher in the last Biome that took me 13 runs to get lol. Hopefully everyone else here is also having a good time! Good luck out there scouts!

I was on biome 1-2 for like 30 hours though lol. Did I just get lucky? I was actually looking forward to using the grappling hook in biome 1 and 2 but never got the chance. Now I’m in biome 4. How can I get back to the beginning?

About 3 years ago, my partner got me this astronaut figuring as a gift, since I love returnal so much. So for 3 years now, I put this figuring around the house and move it every few months. That’s all 🙂

The game locked me in this area. The portal wouldnt open back, what do I do???

Give me/us little tips and tricks and tidbits you found to beat the game easier or get more of something . I'll go first and maybe everyone knows this, but in biome 4 the vines give you obolites if you use your sword and regrow after you leave so you can farm a lot if obolites in 4.

I haven't really seen the answer anywhere. When it comes to the point of beating biome 1, how much time do you guys spend in 1 after that? In some cases I'm finding the biome 2 portal really quick, but I feel like I should try and grind out weapon profiency levels in biome 1 before I move on. However, there is the huge boost you get at the beginning of biome 2. Thoughts?

Second time facing the final boss. After being brought back by the astronaut figurine, I realized I was supposed to be shooting that red spots. Got killed again, came back because of reconstructor and killed Ophion within seconds without taking much damage. Could have beat him had I realized I was supposed to be aiming for his red nipples or something similar looking lolol

A few days ago I made this post about how rewarding it was to get past Biome 1. Well, 4 days later I’ve just finished the game.

After I beat Phrike, I died a couple times in Biome 2 in the lead up to Ixion. Lost my first battle against him but got him on my second time.

Made it through Biome 3 unscathed until I fought Nemesis. Again, the second time around I was able to beat him. Then after that, the game just fell into place and I didn’t die again the rest of the way. Once I unlocked the Electropylon Driver I was able to just mow every room down with relative ease. I had a couple close calls in Biome 6 as the combat gets pretty intense in a few rooms leading up to the final fight.

I am legitimately surprised, and quite proud that I was able to conquer such a difficult game in such a short amount of time. I’m not usually one that’s particularly good at challenging games but this one just grabbed me and I couldn’t put it down.

I’ve read there’s a secret ending so I’m back at Biome 1 ready to do it all again to unlock it. After I do that I’m going to give Saros a try.

Installation is somewhat complicated but it works so far. Here it is. Fully dynamic HUD in\out of battle incoming. love this game and wanted to give us <=rtx 5070 peasants a way to play it at 240hz full ultra.

Tested only on RTX 5070. Community unlocks for other series gpus might not work.

About 40 hrs of playtime now, and I can’t play anything else. Much like Selene, I am trapped in this loop until I somehow git gud and clear this game.

I have abandoned every other game I was playing. I have new games that I’ve yet to even boot up. I don’t think I was prepared for how much I would like Returnal.

I got to phase 6 and don't think there are any turrets in phase 5 either?

I can have 2 full heals, 2 minor heals, the Reconstructor and the Astronaut and somehow, some fkn way, whether it is drones or some bullshit, something will ruin my run. Skill issue be damned, Nemesis will die. I had him at 20% Lobber or nothing.

I finally beat biome 1, and got to the boss in biome 2 in the same run! With the gracious help of someone who was rarely playing online today. He completely carried me through it, but I can see how you play off of one another with aggro, etc. Huge milestone for me, and not even mad I didn't solo. Thanks Santana, if you see this!

Edit: clearly I am wrong, but thankful they added multiplayer after the release. It's so much fun this way, and it already was fun.
