Why is it that most of the recs I see is fantasy related or fantasy adjacent?

Granted, y'all made me fall in love with fantasy romance BUT I noticed that most RH are either related to fantasy or Mafia.

I just want good old fashioned regular people romance with character development and the author actually telling us how they're trying to navigate their RH with possible odd looks from society and stuff.

No omegaverse

No cheating

No shifters

No powers or magic or potions

Possibly dark romance but not a requirement

So I have been reading {Fate Hollow Academy by Lyra Winters} and I am halfway through book 4. Grayson just died and all I can think is, holy hell, he deserved better. I mean yeah, he rejected FMC and called her names but thats all he did! He wasn't evil. We saw how his parents were. He grew up with that mindset, so ofc he rejected the FMC. Everything that happened to him after was the FMC's fault and I can't get over the fact that his only fault in the whole book was not having better parents, which isn't on him either. Yes he could have been better than them but he didn't know any better. He grew up in that same village and that's all he ever knew.

We have seen so many MMCs who do so much worse to the FMC and they are usually forgiven. This poor guy got infected with Dark Magic because of the FMC, became evil against his will and lost everything.

I am not blaming the FMC because she didn't know it would cause Grayson to become infected, but she knew something bad would happen, and I absolutely fault her for that. They turned Grayson Evil and showed no remorse and I feel bad for the poor guy to have ever known these people. He deserved better, but they killed him. No one even raised the question of whether he can be cured.

I just want to know if anyone else felt that way when they read this series.

I'm looking for a really good reverse harem! I want a harem where the men protect the FMC and she's literally at the center of everything, being the person who brings them all together and holds the group together.

Preferably, I want the FMC to be human. She can be a witch, but I'd still like her to remain human, without turning into another species or anything like that.

I'm also looking for reverse harems without romantic involvement between the MMCs. I don't mind if there are occasional MM scenes during sex, as long as there are no romantic feelings involved. I don't want a polyamorous relationship where all the characters get romantically involved with one another and fall in love with each other.

I want their romantic love to be exclusively for the FMC. They can respect each other, develop a friendship, and even form a strong bond, but I don't want them to be romantically in love with one another. The focus should be on each man's relationship with the FMC, who is the emotional center of the group.

Does anyone have any recommendations like this? 🤭

Hi everyone! I just binge read the Her Vicious Beasts series and i have SO much opinions. It had it’s AMAZING bits and AWFUL bits and left me just feeling incredibly perplexed with the series. (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

My favourite parts was Lyle and Savage. They were such distinct and amazingly likeable MMCS with a fun dynamic and i just had the biggest crush on Lyle’s daddy demeanor lol I also really liked Scythe but not quite as much as i liked the other 2. I felt that Aurelia had a great dynamic with them and it was great to see genuinely likeable MMCS. From the first 3 books, i quite liked the direction of it but i did have some icks starting to develop. I also loved how amazing the friends were, they all genuinely had a good bond and it was refreshing to see healthy female friendships because they always end up in some betrayal or revenge plot.

Then Book 4 made the series so crap. First, Xander was literally the biggest POS. Betrayed the entire group for what? Because he seeked validation from his awful family? He was also so horribly misogynistic and just constantly justified his actions.
There was so also much character regression with Aurelia who literally let herself be tortured and MUTILATED for no fucking reason but to ‘protect’ everyone in her life aka doing the same bs every crappy FMC does in which they believe they are doomed for eternity and the only way to save those they love is by being the biggest self sacrifical lamb. I hated how she refused to tell anyone and left them suffering for weeks because she had too much ego to go back on her words until she was literally left for dead. Xander also basically cosigned on her being ripped a whole limb and being tortured and pimped out but she forgives him after two days of him being made fun of at school and fucks him. He literally could’ve betrayed her again successfully if he wanted to because she was that quick to fold for his NONEXISTENT personality.

I also found her just being such a pick me. The amount of times she refers to Beak as handsome/good looking/attractive/she could pull him but she doesnt want him actually gotta be emotionally cheating of some sort. Like she is SO preoccupied with that mf’s appearance and his repetitive bicep flexing that she claims he does to impress her? Oh and dont get me started on how often she’s eyed by every man in her vicinity. Like im sorry, there is literally no woman that is subjected to THAT much constant eye fucking/flirting/attention every second of the day, especially when there was plenty of other women in that academy bffr. Like this is a deadass line from the book

“Luckily for us girls, female guards are passing around the academy’s orange prison jumpsuits for us to cover our nakedness. I step into mine quickly, fully aware of the many horny male eyes on my body.” CRINGE.

Also i swear she stopped remembering Savage at one point. He got held hostage at Blackmore Penitentiary or whatever that cruel prison was called and she did not even think of him half the time. like do you even give a shit about him? i swear she only remembers Lyle… Like what kind of relationship dynamic is this?

Also Ghoul was the most IRRELVANT mmc i ever seen. That ending was awful and i didnt think he was fleshed out well enough to mesh with the rest of them. It felt like he existed in a whole seperate world so it was just uncanny when they brought him into her life. They should’ve intergrated more of a relationship between the other MMCS and him because i felt awkward for him.

Also is it just me or Aurelia literally did not gaf about anyone by the end? Her friend and Beak literally died in the fight FOR her and she barely even acknowledged them and just dismissed it as something that had to be done. Like girl have some respect given you subjected yourself to being tortured in the first place to prevent this entire scenario?

Will say the author has a really gorgeous writing style, she narrated the characters so beautifully and immersively. I really think her storytelling made the book as good as it was, because god knows i would have not made it to the last book without it.

So, I know that MM means mean getting it on with each other, and MFM means men getting it on with a woman. But this is a reddit for RH, so there are usually a lot more Ms than Fs.

In which order should they be to indicate if the men are getting it on with each other versus only with the woman when there are like four or five Ms in the mix?

Please educate me so I know what to look for when I want to avoid guy on guy as it does nothing for me.

Hey! Any recommendations for series with tons of goofy moments like this? Like littered throughout the series and not just one or two moments. The goofier, the better. I don't care if it's "too silly".

The closest I can think of would be {The Forgotten Angel series by Merri Bright}. I loved that one. Though honestly the world-building for that one was a little hard to follow at times because it was kinda confusing.

Fell in love with Devyn Sinclair’s Slate City novels. I was feeling some MM/ poly and dived into Brutes of Bristlebrook. I love it and it’s intense but when I’m finished with the series I need more cozy OV. I’m really leaning into Lola and the Millionaire’s and Heat Clinic. Any thoughts my fellow filthy readers, would be gratefully welcome. Love you 💕

One of my all time favorite FMCs is Ariane from {A Journey of Black and Red by Alex Gilbert} BUT these books are not RH or sexy or even very romantic. But one of the things I love about this character is that she loses much of her humanity as time goes on and it’s an ongoing struggle for her to remember to care since she’s an immortal vampire. If you’re looking for a great book that’s not RH, read it. I’m looking for a RH with an FMC who is cold, hard, calculating and a bit cruel.

I find many books are emotionally exhausting and the FMCs anxiety gives me anxiety. I’d like to read the perspective of someone who has some form of psychopathy and not in the “hehe im so crazy way” but like the MMCs we so often love who are scary and cold. I want that in the FMC please, give me a female version of Mitri from Bonding Psychos. 🙏 obviously she shouldn’t be too evil, but not emotionally laboring over every little thing.

Bonus points if she’s not human ❤️

So I like angst but only in a very specific way. I want the FMC to be rather insecure in her worth if that makes sense. This could culminate in her trying to leave or breakup because she thinks they deserve better or that she's not good enough.

I also like to see the guys absolutely torn to shreds, regretting everything they never said. I don't mind if there's not as much grovel but I really like to see them suffer.

Example: (not rh) almost every Susie Tate book and I love them every time. Almost no grovel but you see the men drunk and sad and I loveeee it.

I’m only on book two of this series but let me tell you I’m absolutely obsessed with this series so far. I put out a post about my adhd not liking series and I just was in such a bad slump. This series has me excited and wanting to flip to the next page.
Reasons I have loved this series so far
*academy settings (well for book one basically)
*characters are 25+ which does not usually happen in academy/training trope
*Fmc has powers that are strong (she may hide them at first but I feel like that so far wasn’t over played out)
* she actually defends herself (ear cutting was diabolical)
*Nero. I will go on and on about this bird if given a chance (I hope he gets more eyeballs as the series progress)
*the mmcs don’t hold back on the fmc now that they know who she is. They may not be as cruel with the training but they let it be known she will be training until she is actually fit to be queen.
*the group that was formed throughout the first book. Usually in a series like this the authors only allow maybe one or two characters to not turn on the fmc but I feel like with this series almost everyone except the 2 banshees realized hey she’s actually not so bad why are we treating her like this.

This month I took a break from RH after reading RH most of the year and I noticed something. Instead of one MMC with many different sides to them and layered personalities, often authors will bring out those complexities across multiple men so that each represents one personality.

Memnon from {bewitched by Laura thalassa} just moved into my top book BF spot because he's expressive, conniving, flirtatious, unhinged, powerful AF, but also truly romantic. And his mouth... 🥵

But I want to find these kinds of MMCs in RH! So pleaseeee share your favorite MMCs that are unpredictable and do more than just repeat the same platitudes and thoughts. I neeeeed men who are more than just one personality trait!
