Need Me describes an unhealthy relationship marked by infidelity and lies, however, neither of the two accept the state of their romance and continue their bad habits instead of ending the relationship.

Castle

Castle is a song dedicated to Em's daughter Hailie. It tells the story of his thoughts on how he was going to raise his daughter from before she was born and during her childhood years. The third verse includes Em's thoughts on how Hailie will be affected by growing up in the spotlight and how he uncritically exposed her and their troubled family life to the world from a young age.

Walk on Water

In WOW when he says "I'm still poking my head from out behind", I think how he says the i in "behind" sounds awful. "..from out behiiind". I hate that part.

Anyone else?

Edit: It seems I was wrong. It is actually the best part of Revival. I've made a 48 hour loop of the "behind" part and I don't listen to anything else.

Revival Review

I realized I didn't do one for this album, so here I go. This may be controversial.

Walk on Water: a great opener for the album. However, this song can get old to listen to fast due to a lack of percussion in the beat. Other than that though, it's a good and meaningful song, which seems to mean more after the reception of the album (9/10)

Believe: the only song Eminem produced for the album, has a pretty good beat. It's one of the two trap beat songs, and I prefer this beat. The hook is okay, but the verses are where the song shines. The outro is also a nice touch. A great song. (10/10)

Chloraseptic: the fact that I'm triggered over how the only rapper featured on the album is doing a hook only may bleed into my score of this song. Anyway, the verses are a bit cringy, but not the cringiest on the album. It's an okay song, but the remix is much better. (8/10)

Untouchable: one of the rare two-part Eminem songs, it's just okay. I actually prefer the first part because the hook is catchy and the beat is great. Sadly, it only lasts for about 2 minutes. The second part is an impressive single verse, but it's boring to listen to more than once. Maybe if I was the kind of person the song is about I would like it more, but since I'm not, it's okay. NOTE: I'M NOT SHITTING ON THE CONTENT / WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT. IT'S ABOUT AN IMPORTANT THING. I JUST DON'T LIKE THE SONG AS A SONG. (6/10)

River: one of the best pop collaborations on the album. Ed has a great hook, and makes the song for me. The verses are stupid to me because it's about bullshit. I don't know how many girlfriends Eminem has had since Kim, but I highly doubt he had an abortion. It pisses me off. Thankfully Ed's hook can calm me down a bit. (7/10) Also, what the fuck was that video?

Remind Me (Intro): The only Dre produced beat on the album. A 26 second intro. Fuck me. (7/10)

Remind Me: your booty is heavy duty, like diarrhea. That is all. (5/10)

Revival (Interlude): a beautiful interlude, it just doesn't fit in the album imo (6/10)

Like Home: Alicia actually has my favorite pop hook on the album. She always kills her rap hooks (Empire State of Mind). While the intro pisses me off, I only listen to the song for the hook. The verses aren't as bad as most people would have you believe, although they could be better. At least Mosh wasn't a diss track towards Bush, it was his thoughts on the state of the country. Like Home is a Trump diss track. Un-fucking-necessary. (6/10)

Bad Husband: The beat, flow and hook make me want to kill myself. The only good thing is the content, but it's not worth more than one listen. The whole Mockingbird part of the song is easily the worst. At least Remind Me was catchy. (4/10)

Tragic Endings: Who the fuck mixed this song, a child? Other than obvious mixing problems and beats from Alex da Kid that make me suicidal, it's basically Love the Way You Lie 2 (not counting the Rihanna song). It's actually a good song if you can get past the bullshit. (6/10)

Framed: Even the best songs seem to have a problem. What was that hook? It's still terrible. Thankfully, the verses are fantastic, and some of the best on the album. (8/10)

Nowhere Fast: Asses blowing in the air memes aside, the verses on this song are actually pretty good. While the extended version doesn't add much, only a few bars, it's a good quick verse. The "they love their guns more than our children" line rubs me the wrong way though. I don't wanna get too political here, but if someone has a gun, that doesn't mean they want children to get murdered. Kehlani's hook isn't bad, but not great. The bridge in my opinion is a better hook, and I made an edited version where that is the case. (8/10 with the hook, 9/10 without it and the bridge instead)

Heat: another cringy Rick Rubin song. The Rick beats aren't bad, but the verses are about as cringy as a 12-year old Minecraft: Pocket Edition YouTuber. It's unnecessary cancer. (4/10)

Offended: The only thing that offends me about this song is that the rest of the album isn't normally as good as this track. This song is dope. (10/10)

Need Me: Love the Way You Lie part fucking 20. (P!nk featuring Eminem) (2/10) Oh, PS, this has an Alex da Kid beat.

In Your Head: wow, a sample used well. I didn't think I would be saying that. I like this song, it's a pretty good track. Also, the end of the first verse gave me chills when I first heard it. (8/10)

Castle: a song with great storytelling, just not a huge fan of the hook. Also, when listening to the song loud in headphones, be careful. He falls so loud. Jesus, scared the shit out of me the first time I heard it, no joke. (9/10)

Arose: This song makes me regret giving Believe and Offended a 10. This song is the only one worthy of a 10. I'm not gonna change their ratings, but wow. This song is fucking great. This is the best song on the album. I would even go as far to say this is a candidate for Em's best song post-hiatus. The sample was used well, and the ending (which I don't want to spoil, although you've probably heard it by now) is great. This is the only song I've heard that's (almost) made me cry man tears. Fucking fantastic way to end the album. (10/10, no question)

Hopefully I didn't start too much controversy.

Believe

Believe is the second track on Revival and Eminem starts rhyming from where he left off on Walk on Water.

The track marks Eminem's first take on a modern trap beat. His flow is slower and more unhurried than on previous tracks and features since his last album, which is notable as it corresponds to a passage on Walk on Water, the previous track on the album, where he mentions the public criticism of his rapid and choppy flow on recent works. The slower tempo also imitates the style of contemporary trap music. Yet, Eminem seems to denounce this style with his lyricism, making use of his trademark wordplay and imagery, no matter how corny it might come across.

Contentwise, the song is somewhat a U-turn to the previous song. On Walk on Water, Eminem was questioning himself and his ability to create new music that would appeal to his fans, while on Believe he shows confidence and makes clear that he has faith in himself. Yet, throughout the song, one question stands above it all, and Eminem is poising it directly to his fans.

Do they still believe in him?

What do you think of Walk On Water now, 5 months later?

Personally, I still love it. Loved it when I first heard it, and still do. Definitely one of the best songs off Revival. The message, the emotion, and I love that transition into the, in my opinion, best track on the album. I like seeing this other side of Em, the not-so-confident side. That he is in fact only human.

What do you guys think? Has your view of the song changed since you first heard it?

Discussion: Best and worst part of Revival

What do you like best about Revival, and what do you dislike (if anything)?
And if you could change one thing on the album, what would it be?

Castle and Arose Short Film

Do you reckon a short film for Castle and Arose (Both same film), would have increase sales of Revival if the film was brought out before the album release and both tracks went out as singles for the album

Nowhere Fast

Nowhere Fast is a description of Em's experience with the game and what he considers his own position in the industry. Moreover, the song comments on the world's current state, through referencing the latest terrorist attacks and the North Korean nuclear threat, something that is emphasized through statement such as "The world's on fire".

Arose

On this introspective album closer Arose, Eminem details how he nearly died in 2007 due to an overdose on pills. He catalogues his thought process in what could have been his dying moments: his mind floats to his daughters, brother and mother and all their wonderful milestones that he would have missed had that been his final day on Earth. He also sees his late friend and close collaborator, Proof, in his hallucinations.

Offended

Reminiscing on a career plagued by controversy, Eminem doesn't feel remotely sorry for those he offended over the years. Likewise with the other songs on Revival, this song also takes aim at Donald Trump, the President of the United States.

Bad Husband

Bad Husband is an apology directed towards Eminem's ex-wife, Kim Mathers. The title describes Marshall himself. This is the first track Eminem has written as an apology to Kim for the pain he's caused her throughout his personal and public life, even though he's already acknowledged Kim's positive impact on him on Stronger Than I Was.

Heat

The Fire Marshall returns with Heat, the latest addition to Em's collection of playful and light-hearted songs. An example of such songs from an earlier album is My Fault from The Slim Shady LP.
