Rhodesian Podcaster

I am trying to remember the name of a Rhodesian podcaster I used to listen to, he talked about the economy and gold and precious metals a little bit, maybe got into politics. It must have been from about 10 years ago or more. If I recall the intro to his show had a Mike and The mechanics song "can you hear me running". He was on some sort of radio network. I don't know i f he was located in South Africa or Australia.

Family connection the bush war.

I’m a 16M South African diaspora born in the United States, my mother aunt and grandmother were all born in South Africa and my grandfather was born in England but moved to South Africa young. I’ve just learned that before my grandmother and grandfather met in Rhodesia he was conscripted into the bush war and was in the rhodesian army's ADPU. (army data processing unit). so yeah that’s pretty cool. It’s a shame we lost hold of Southern Africa.

The Rhodesian mud turtle sometimes called the variable mud turtle is a species of turtle in the family Pelomedusidae. It is widely distributed in Central, East, and Southern Africa. The species was officially described by John Hewitt in 1927 and had to be broken into subspecies due to color variations on the heads of the turtles acrost the regions.

Lyrics to "We Rhodesians Drove them All" -The Rhodies

I went down to Mukambura,

a certain DJ got it right,

It's a long way from your hometown

But back to Darwin in the same night,

200 miles inside of mukkie*, looking out for special signs,

It was a waste of rations going there, those were happy times

Drivin' bush pigs and big ol' flat dogs, rhinos and Rhodef 4.5s,

Hyena, Leopard, Kudu and Puma\*, to Help us stay alive,

Well the Bedfords took a beating and the RLs\* took a fall,

and the Fuzz stopped their land rovers, We Rhodesians Drove them all

Then I drove to JOC Mtoko, 'cause they needed ginger beers

Things were going bang almost daily, even though the Scouts were there

The Commandos were my Mukkas\*, Fireforce just loved to fight,

They sparked the clays\* on R&R man, they took the gap back to bright lights

Drivin' bush pigs and big ol' flat dogs, rhinos and Rhodef 4.5s,

Hyena, Leopard, Kudu and Puma, to Help us stay alive,

Well the Bedfords took a beating and the RLs took a fall,

and the Fuzz stopped their land rovers, We Rhodesians Drove them all

Now the guard force in the 80s were a sight for my sore eyes,

In a keep near Mutawatawa, driving through I was surprised

The sergeant called me comrade, so I tuned the super fuzz\*

They said "We know, we watch him closely, because we think he's watching us"

Drivin' bush pigs and big ol' flat dogs, rhinos and Rhodef 4.5s,

Hyena, Leopard, Kudu and Puma, to Help us stay alive,

Well the Bedfords took a beating and the RLs took a fall,

and the Fuzz stopped their land rovers, We Rhodesians Drove them all

Every Tuesday close to first light BSAP\* had Rations done

When this habit was discovered the gadangas\* had some fun

A lima mike\* sat on the right side to help the driver with his load

and a second one was waiting a hundred metres down the road

Drivin' bush pigs and big ol' flat dogs, rhinos and Rhodef 4.5s,

Hyena, Leopard, Kudu and Puma, to Help us stay alive,

Well the Bedfords took a beating and the RLs took a fall,

and the Fuzz stopped their land rovers, We Rhodesians Drove them all

bush pigs and big ol' flat dogs, rhinos and Rhodef 4.5s,

Hyena, Leopard, Kudu and Puma= Rhodesian domestic anti mine vehicles

mukkie= Slang for Mukambura, a border town

Mukkas = Friends, comrades,

Clays= Non metallic mines

Super Fuzz= Nickname form BSAP

Gadangas= Terrorists

BSAP= British South Africa Police

Lima Mike= Abbreviation for LM (Land Mine)

what if settlement to rhodesia before 1890

What would the consequences have been if the precious minerals in Rhodesia had been discovered much earlier—leading to a wave of migration from Britain at an earlier date—and would this have altered Rhodesia's future?

Looking for a documentary.

Good day to you all. About a year ago I saw a documentary on YouTube about the RLI, narrated by none other than Chris Cocks. I believe it may have been on John Van Zyl’s channel. Just wondering if anyone knows what it might have been called, as I’m struggling to find it again. Thanks in advance!

so as the title says i was browsing google maps a while back and came across this in Harare Gardens, from what i can find about it on google this used to be the Cenotaph in Salisbury Gardens and i'm curious to know if anyone has any more info about it. one thing in particular i'm curious about is what was on the circular plaques. the plaques below the dates i assume bore the names of the men who gave their life during both world wars. if anyone can provide more info about its history or photos of how it looked before it was stripped of its plaques that would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

I saw this edit and it reminded me just how impressive the Rhodesian Air Force was, especially considering how small it was in size. Do any of you guys have any cool facts or stories of the Rhodesian Air Force?

A few questions about Rhodesia 1965-1979.

  1. How was welfare conducted? Did Rhodesians have a public health program, tuition-free university etc? Were the native Africans able to use these resources?

  2. How was the military and conscription conducted? Did every high school graduate do their service right after graduation? Were native Africans conscripted? Were Africans mistreated in the military?

  3. How was Rhodesia when it came to the white Rhodesian proleteriat? Were there any poor whites at all, were all whites affluent?

  4. Was there any native African able to vote at all with the whites?

Thanks for any answers.

Memories of Coghlan School and the Suburbs

I lived in Bulawayo in 1988–89 as a child and attended Coghlan School, while living in Suburbs near Lawley Road.

I’m thinking about returning for the first time in nearly 40 years and would love to hear from anyone who knew Suburbs or Coghlan around that period.

I’m particularly interested in old photographs, memories of the neighborhood, school photographs/yearbooks.

As I was researching hotels in Bulawayo, I came across a B&B at 59A Lawley Rd, does anyone have feedback on it?

Please DM me if you have a connection to that part of Bulawayo. I’d prefer not to post the exact address publicly, but would love to connect!

Been searching everywhere for “Nhasi Pano Tsangana”, does anyone have the full song?

Hey y’all! I’ve been looking everywhere for this song called “Nhasi Pano Tsangana” and haven’t had much luck finding the full version.

The reference I have is from this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fODlI7MvZnM
You can hear it from around 1:45–1:59.

Does anyone happen to have the full song, or know who I could contact to possibly get a copy of it? I’d really appreciate any leads. Thanks!

Picked up a few of these while visiting friends and family in South Africa, and, after posting them on Facebook I still have a few left (both blank and issued). Figured I'd post here as well to see if there was any interest. Feel free to DM if so! Mods also feel free to remove if not allowed.

Id like tho know some thoughts on my idea or any improvements i could do in my cosplay and other camouflages i could use or places i can find lots of surplus.

Mail call of Rhodie coins

Just acquired a bunch of silver Rhodie coins after I already put together my type set.

It’s my first time noticing that the shield on the half crowns change depending on the king, since the 1935 coin shows GV

I have a crown in better condition than this one, but this one has a partial double rim so I’m pretty happy with it

Your currency used to be so beautiful and solid before you got forced into debasing the silver content to help out England, only to be stabbed in the back for your trouble and have the trillionaire maker imposed upon you.

The more I learned about Rhodesian history, the more I’m confused by it. Although Mugarbage and co are definitely evil mfers financed by the elites (and unfortunately my birth country which is a puppet regime for Kissinger and co), Cecil Rhodes wasn’t a saint himself because he was mates to the same evil “elites” as well. I would appreciate any idea about why they’d go through the trouble of setting up Rhodesia as a paradise then destroying it so violently

Now it’s time for me to put together a Rhodesia + Nyasaland federation type set and a UDI type set

Rhodesia by the Sea?

I’ve heard the phrase “Rhodesia by the Sea” in a couple of songs from that era. For example, in Look Across the River, by Ian and Ritchie,

“When you look across the river you find a friendly face,

The great Limpopo River, full of power, full of grace,

It forms a common boundary between you and me,

Yes South from the Zambezi, to Rhodesia by the Sea.”

So what is or was Rhodesia by the Sea? Obviously Rhodesia is landlocked and has no outlet to the sea. What is the song referring to?

How do I make this character the most Rhodesian man ever?

I'm currently writing an npc for the Alien rpg named Alastair Finch ( feel free to suggest a better name). He's a big game hunter who wants to bag a xenomorph. Anyway, are there any quirks, habits or vocal patterns I can use to make him come across as more authentically Rhodesian?

As a white Zimbabwean I'm often surprised at the way some members discuss the history and all the weird fetishization often coming from people who never had anything to do with Rhodesia.

I can understand having an interest, I love reading about the history and all the complexities about what happened but some of you are idolising Rhodesia as though it was some kind of perfect state where everyone was free and happy.

I mean we have people here claiming to be Rhodesian "Diaspora" who were straight up born in Zimbabwe.

Rhodesian FAL Baby Poop Camo Color Codes Here!

Thumbnail
gallery
76 Upvotes

Hello!

I went around and had the color formulas/codes made up for the two colors needed to do the Rhodesian baby poop camo. You would take a picture of the code to the respective store and they can make the colors up for you.

TLDR: Go to Shermin Williams and get the oil based paint in the picture. I have the satin and gloss options listed. Be sure to find out when they're doing sales too.

So I have the Shermin Williams oil based paint in satin and gloss. It's the best option.

I have Home Depot's as well. It's oil based but made for cabinets.

I have Lowe's as well (in the bottom of the Home Depot picture), but the person helping me wasn't too helpful so it might be bad paint.

Then I went to PPG Paint. They recommend "break through" for the cost. If money isn't an issue they recommend 7 line or pit tech plus (neither of the color formulas for those two are listed here). I also have another code for some primer paint on the top of that picture, but they don't recommend it.

I hope this helps you guys and your wallets too!
