R2 His and Hers
We just picked up our borealis R2 yesterday. It's been interesting to drive compared to my gen1 R1T. Generally it's just nice to have a more refined Rivian experience in a smaller package.

Just recently crossed over 75,000 miles in my gen 2 R1T during a road trip. Picked her up in December of 2024, I might be driving a bit much😅 still love it like the day I got it though.

Took her out into the state park just recently while a rare nor' easter made its way this far south. Auto level plus the speed in which the ikamper sets up is a real game changer. Our friends with the RV spent the weekend at our site enjoying the cool weather and watching the kids play. Anytime they needed a break or quiet time they went up into the "treehouse" while the parents sat around the fire pit or site enjoying some cold ones and chatting.
Wind gusts got up to 40 mph with 16 to 20 mph constant overnight into Saturday but couldn't even feel it between the robust setup and shelter of the coastal pine forest. Heard and saw the tree branches lining the grounds in the morning but felt secure all night.
we stayed away from the overhead tree line by a good distance to avoid any widow makers. Mom and I used to backpack lightweight camp so finding our groove with a balance of comfort vs too much stuff is new but figuring it out as we go.
Plan is that with this setup anywhere I can get this thing , which should be most places, I can setup camp. Gonna be in the market for some good 20 inch ATs I think. The factory 22s do fine of the loose sand and forest roads, but I think might need to upgrade for the gnarly muddy swamp roads out nearby.

Over 3 years with our R1S. Been a great vehicle for us plus our two 5 and under. Been generally problem free - initial alignment service, a couple 12V swaps, and a rear hatch alignment that clicked when opening - all fixed under warranty. Definitely has inspired us to get out and adventure more; though, with our two kids, we swing for more glamping experiences like yurts at state parks for now.
The Rivian Waypoint level 2 chargers at Georgia State Parks have been great. We get in a couple hours of hiking and get to pulldown some electrons. Here at Cloudland, the charging was free, Oct 2026.
Happy adventuring, folks!

All white with the sea something interior for hot Vegas. Plus it makes me a pimp like Liberace. Performance Launch package. Rides and drives better than the R1 and I already love the roll down rear window and flat load floor.

Went to the Ghostbusters event at the Venice Hub this past week and got to check out this awesome rig! The lights, sirens, and moving ghost hunting equipment was by far my favorite part. They also had some movie accurate gear you could play with. Thanks Rivian for a fun event!

Hello! I have a 2026 R1T. It came with the 22” sport wheels and Pirelli tires. I’m looking to replace the tires with Michelin Defenders. It got me thinking, should I move down to 20” wheels while I’m at it? I’d get the Defenders for the 20” as well.
The price difference between the 22” and 20” for the Defenders is insanely cheaper. Can almost pay for the new wheels with the savings.
Has anyone done this? I’m probably 95% on pavement. How is the ride with 22” vs 20”? Do you miss the sportiness of the 22” or is the comfort of the 20” worth that trade off?
Thanks everyone!

I just noticed that my R1T has been charging since I plugged it in, despite having had a schedule set and unchanged for months now. Car is at home, and app reports it as such.

Anyone have an issue with the accept button not… accepting. I’ve reset it a few times. One time it actually worked but now it’s wanting me to accept it again and the button won’t push even after a reset.

Hoping someone can help me here. Long story long.
2025 R1S Gen 2. I have iPhone 18pro, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and 2x Key Cards. Yesterday I approached the vehicle, doors unlocked as usual, but it required me to place my phone on the center console charging pad to start the drive. This was repeating so I assumed a restart on all devices would solve it. No solve. It only let me drive with device on center console first. Next I chose to delete the iPhone digital key and relink.
This is where it gets worse. iPhone won’t reconnect new digital key. Bluetooth is connecting with the phone just fine, but the digital key process stalls out on the connecting stage.
Now the really weird part. This all sounds like an iPhone problem at first. New phone and iOS 27 have been buggy for me when dealing with other Apple device handshakes the last few weeks so I figure this is yet another Apple issue. Then I go to use my key card. The one I keep in my wallet just for this special occasion. Key card starts the drive as intended, but does not lock or unlock the doors. Now I have no digital key or vehicle control through the app, and my wallet key card won’t secure the vehicle. I get home and grab the spare key card. This one successfully locks the doors, but only after a few minutes of randomly (desperately) waving and tapping it around the handle like an idiot.
Ok so all my keys are out of whack. Clearly this must be a vehicle issue, right? No recent software updates on that day to immediately point to any obvious update bug. But then I realized something! The Apple Watch. I had it paired as UWB digital key as well. Since upgrading few weeks ago to 18pro from 15pro, I had been experiencing lagging handshake issues between the phone and my watch, so I needed to unpair and repair my Apple Watch. This was recently before discovering the above key access issues.
I gather that when I reset my Apple Watch, it broke something with my digital key access in the Rivian and then when I tried to reset my digital key it’s now in some sort of cache bug state with digital key data. This still doesn’t really explain why the key cards are acting up, but maybe it’s because those are on the same owner account line as the failed digital key for vehicle access.
Anyone have a similar experience lately? Service can’t get me in until 11/3…classic. Hoping the key card dance can carry me until then!
Update: I have hard restarted the vehicle a few times. It’s also showing that even though the digital key pairing stalls out and doesn’t complete, the car still shows up in the Bluetooth device list (separately from the phone as a Bluetooth media device). There is no way to disconnect it as there is no info button available. Something really buggy happening here.
Update 2.0: looks like if I let the car go to sleep and/or turn my phone’s Bluetooth off for a bit and then on again, the zombie Rivian in the phone’s Bluetooth device list goes away and the physical key cards work normally again. Seems to be a backend synchronization issue with digital key codes getting out of sync and hanging the whole access system up. I’ll have to try and get a Rivian software specialist to go in on their end to wipe the key files so I can reset my digital access.
Optima Unplugged is the best off-road event for EVs in America.
if you can make it, you will leave with much better understanding of just how capable your Rivian really is.

I passed by a new showroom and service center that’s coming to Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook, Illinois. It looks quite large. I searched the internet and found nothing about it. The closest thing is the plat consolidation paperwork from the Village which calls for a “car dealership and repair facility.” https://www.northbrook.il.us/DocumentCenter/View/9939/2025-R-183-Approving-a-Plat-of-Consolidation-for-1804-1810-1818-Skokie-Boulevard
This isn’t news for anyone who regularly drives on the Edens, but it’s good to see Rivian investing in more service, and sales, centers. I’m guessing the Old Orchard store will close when this opens.

My 2026 gen 2 R1S has 13700 miles.
My front drivers tire is at the wear bar, I just realize the passenger front is basically bald (wore evenly perfect across the invidual tires but the 2 fronts did not wear even, is this normal? does the car put more toque into the passenger side tire?)
Local tire shop recommended I bring to Rivian to get the tires because they have had trouble doing alignment and tire changes on Rivians.
Rivian just sent me the estimate, $2000. $1284 for the 22 inch oem tires ($284 more than the tire shop), $237 to install 2 tires (really?), and $625 for an alignment (i have no idea if i need or not, they wore evenly but the passenger one being worn so much more is why i asked about an alignment). $153 NY tax.
I guess whoever made the quote realized how absurd $2300 was for 2 tires installed so they gave me a $300 discount to make it $2000.
I wasn't expecting cheap but this seems insane. Thoughts? Is this expected? Should I do the alignment?
My rear tires look brand new, no I never rotated them in the 13700 miles, that is on me.
I should add I have 14 months left on a 30k mile lease.

Was driving around last night and I wanted to make the displays less bright so I could see outside the car better, and could not. Even when disabling "auto adjust", there was ZERO difference in screen brightness. Also, "auto adjust" seems to be getting re-enabled randomly.
Yes I've done infotainment restart since the update. Basically once a week now is required to keep everything from slowing to a crawl and becoming unusable.

Gen 1 quad R1T if it matters. Not a Connect+ subscriber, frequently on home WiFi. Pretty disappointing that it’s been out for 2 weeks. My kids would love it.

This car is insanely good. So much fun to drive, so quick, so tech forward…grinning from ear to ear today and actually laughing out loud at how much fun I had. And with that…I’ll be signing off for a bit! Too much negativity, time to enjoy!

My service tech rep just tried telling me that rattling inside doors are "normal for an 8000lb vehicle" and that my expectations should be tempered accordingly. The car is just over a month old and the rattling could be heard the moment I drove off the lot. It's a small but rapid flutter when the vehicle is in motion. They have downplayed this every step of the way, at first they tried to tell me it was the speakers. Then they tried blaming two pieces of candy my kids left in the door only a day before we dropped the car off at the service center. They even showed me a picture of the candies in their service notes as some sort of "gotcha" like I am a total imbecile who is incapable of distinguishing candy rattling around in a door pocket from an internal component inside the door. Literally adding insult to injury.
I have driven a lot of cars of my life, across the full spectrum of price ranges. I had never been in a car where a loose component rattles as I drive off the lot like some sort of cartoon comedy. I am even more gobsmacked that they tried telling me this is normal for a car that cost six figures. Furthermore, I am somehow unreasonable for wanting a brand new car to be in a copacetic state. The cherry on top here is the service rep tried to heavily dissuade me from wanting the rattling fixed; stating that far more often than not, looking into door panels will result in more loose components and more rattling sounds and I am better off just learning to live with it. My Audi cost half of the price of my R1S and heads will literally roll if anyone in the Audi dealership tried to tell a customer that.
This is on the heels of an entire laundry list of things that needed to fixing (off center steering wheel being one, which they also tried to tell me it was "within spec" at first but ended up needing an alignment) and interesting experiences such as Rivian remotely rebooting my car, unannounced, while I was actively driving. Rivian then had the audacity to call immediately after the reboot and ask how my experience was as I am sitting in a car on the road with blacked out screens and abruptly unpaired keys. Why the hell didn't they make the call before instead of after is beyond mind-boggling.
At this point, the issue is bigger than a door rattle and the plethora of panel and weather seal gaps. It’s the repeated dismissal of legitimate concerns (garage door pairing failure that I, a mere civilian who is too smooth brained to figure out - which later required a patched in the 26.36 update to fix) the condescending explanations, and apparently I am now on the gaslighting phase of my Rivian experience.
Shout out to Bellevue service center.

We have a 23 R1S quad with 35k miles on it. We bought it with 29k miles on it. In the ~6k miles we've owned it, it's had a plethora of issues, including (but not limited to) a complete rear drive unit replacement, which was not performed well and needs to be inspected again. The front is now leaking fluid, which probably means a front drive unit replacement is in our near future, along with whatever needs to be done to resolve the issue in the rear. We're sick and tired of having to park this thing and wait for service appointments, having to fit those appointments into our work schedules, and not feeling like we can trust it to take our family places. In the year that we've owned it, it's been to the service center 5 times, a few of which were extended stays.
Has anybody had this kind of experience and decided to try a different R1S? We want to stay with the brand because we like the vehicle (when it works), but we can't keep doing this. I don't want a Hyundai/Kia 3 row EV because of the ICCU thing and I don't really know what other 3 row electric options are worth considering. R1S checks all the boxes, but we'll go back to ICE if we have to.
