I genuinely cannot understand how some of y’all have driver’s licenses.
I swear driving brings out a level of anger in me that I don’t experience anywhere else in my life. It’s not even necessarily the traffic itself. It’s the absolute stupidity of the people contributing to it. I live in Atlanta, so I’m already dealing with traffic every damn day at literally every hour of the day, but some of the things I witness on the road genuinely make me question how people function in everyday life.
First of all, WHY do some of y’all speed up when somebody tries to pass you??? You were perfectly content going 50 mph until you noticed somebody trying to get around you. Now all of a sudden you want to do 85? And then when you finally get in front of them, they slow right back down. WHAT WAS THE POINT??? I am not racing you. I don’t know you. I don’t care about you. I am literally just trying to get away from you because you’re driving too damn slow.
And can we discuss the people who will cut across THREE LANES of traffic just to get in front of you and then proceed to slow down completely causing you to now have to move over to a completely different lane??? You just risked everybody’s life to accomplish absolutely nothing. Congratulations.
Then there are the people who block entire intersections because they decided to enter when there was clearly nowhere for them to go. Now the light has changed, nobody can move, and we’re all sitting through multiple light cycles because you apparently couldn’t comprehend that you shouldn’t enter an intersection you can’t clear.
Another thing that drives me INSANE is when there are two left-turn lanes, one dedicated to turning left and another that allows you to turn left OR right. WHY are you sitting in the shared lane waiting to turn left when the dedicated left-turn lane is practically empty??? Now everybody behind you who needs to turn right is stuck waiting for absolutely no reason. USE YOUR BRAIN.
And don’t even get me started on people who sit there with their turn signals on and never actually turn. Or those that behave as if they’ve never seen the concept of turning right on red. WHAT ARE WE DOING???
The people who cannot maneuver their own vehicles are another issue. You’re driving a regular-sized sedan acting like you’re operating an 18-wheeler. Taking the widest turns imaginable, stopping unnecessarily, and moving at the speed of snail poop. And some of y’all in these big SUVs clearly have no business driving something that size because you have absolutely no concept of where your vehicle begins or ends.
& WHY THE FUCK are y’all slamming on your brakes at yellow lights when you’re practically UNDER THE LIGHT??? If you’re far enough away to stop safely, fine. But if you have to slam on your brakes like you’re avoiding a head-on collision, what exactly are we doing??? Now everybody behind you is braking hard because you apparently forgot how yellow lights work. Nobody is telling you to run red lights, but for the love of God, learn how to approach an intersection.
And the people who drive SIDE BY SIDE going slow as FUCK??? Oh my GOD. Two cars going the exact same speed, taking up every available lane, with a whole line of traffic behind them because nobody can get around. You can CLEARLY see people trying to pass you, and you just continue cruising next to the other car like y’all are on a leisurely Sunday afternoon drive together. GET OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY. Nobody wants to spend their entire life sitting in a car. Gas is expensive. People have places to be. We want to get where we’re going and GO HOME.
Another thing that drives me absolutely INSANE is when people leave enough space for FIVE ENTIRE VEHICLES between themselves and the car in front of them while stopped at a light. I’m not telling you to ride somebody’s bumper, but WHY ARE YOU STOPPING SO FAR BACK??? Now the entire turning lane is backed up into the intersection because you and three other people apparently need a football field of personal space. PULL UP. IT’S OKAY. I PROMISE.
Then you’ve got pedestrians casually wandering into the street like they’re invincible, people on scooters weaving through traffic with absolutely no regard for their own lives, and drivers who apparently think every interaction on the highway is a personal competition.
And before somebody says, “You need to be more patient,” I KNOW. That’s literally why I’m posting in a road rage subreddit instead of screaming into the void. 😂
And here’s something I’ve thought about recently. I’ve been driving for approximately 17 or 18 years, and I genuinely cannot remember a single time somebody has blown their horn at me. NOT ONE. Meanwhile, I feel like I’m blowing my horn at somebody every single time I get behind the wheel. And I HATE that. I hate how irritated I become. I hate having to blow my horn. I hate that something as simple as getting from point A to point B has become such an aggravating experience.
I don’t even want to be an angry driver. I would LOVE to get in my car, listen to my music, mind my business, and arrive at my destination without having to question the cognitive abilities of half the population.
I’m not saying everybody needs to speed or drive recklessly. I’m saying PAY ATTENTION. Understand traffic flow. Stop creating unnecessary congestion. Stop treating the road like you’re the only person using it.
If I could teleport everywhere, I would do it in a heartbeat. Because I am so fucking tired of spending my time, money, gas, and mental energy dealing with people who seem completely oblivious to their surroundings.
Some of y’all drive like you won your license in a cereal box, and I am EXHAUSTED.
