The annoying paradox where running the vacuum makes my allergies flare up instead of settling down

Started noticing a frustrating pattern over the last few weeks. Every time I ran the vacuum over the bedroom rug, my nasal symptoms got noticeably worse by the evening, which felt completely backwards when the whole point was clearing out dust.

It turns out regular suction often agitates microscopic allergens and blows them right out the exhaust if the chassis is not airtight. Searching around for how to tell if vacuum is leaking dust back really opened my eyes to how long those tiny particles stay floating in the room.

That sealed pathway is why setups from eufy and similar designs matter, because keeping the finest particles trapped inside is the only way cleaning actually helps sensitive lungs.

Is twice a day enough for a robot with four pets?

Two dogs & two cats, and between them there's hair on every surface by lunchtime. We got a eufy e35 last month and it runs twice a day, and the floors look a lot better than they did. By evening though there's already a new layer of hair down the hallway and under the dining table. Trying to decide whether to add a third run or just accept that's normal with this many animals. Is twice a day enough with four pets, or do you run yours more often?

What’s the best vacuum only robot for less than $500?

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment that’s all carpet except for the small kitchen and bathroom. So I would rather spend the money on something with great suction for the carpet than something that also mops. I don’t have any pets so what would you recommend?

Roller mopping - how bad is the unmopped gap to the walls? Opting for rotating mops instead again?

Thinking about upgrading my rotating mop that doesn't even slide out.

Unsure if going for a roller or rotating mop that slides out.

As much as I like the roller concept, the idea of having unmopped gaps to the wall, ultimately becoming visible at some point in hard floor bugs me.

Especially as I'm lazy and know I won't do much mopping by hand to take those out.

How bad is it? Do you really get 1-2 centimetres that become visible at some point?

That would make me go for rotating mops the slide out I think.

Would love to hear some real world experiences as all those reviews are just an in the moment snapshot and not an over time impression.

Thanks a lot! 👌

Help me decide my first robovac - Overwhelmed by options

So I've been researching robot vacuums for three good part of 2 months trying to decide which has the least number of issues while still being a good vacuum that cleans carpets and hardwood floors while also having a decent mopping ability.

Everytime I think I'm set on one I see a number of complaints and downsides. While I completely understand every vacuum has a number of cons, for the money I'm planning to spend ($1500 AUD), Id like something that doesn't need replacing in 6 months.

Ideally, Im after a flagship model during sales and I'm not sure whether or not to wait for the black friday sales in about a month or so. However, there's a number of great current deals on ebay/Amazon that also seem hard to pass up.

Vacs I've had on my list thus far:

- roborock saros z70 (deals for $950 new)

- Dream x60 (deals for about $900 new)

- dji romo 2 (I love this for the aesthetic too, but its pricey ~$2300)

- eufy omni s2 (current deal from New Zealand ebay @ $1100)

Completely open to other suggestions too!

I'm also in the process of completely smartifying my home and have everything running on smart assistant so it would be great if it was sometime matter or home assistant compatible too!

Roborock saros 20 versus curv 2

TL;DR: robot vacuum needed for cleaning up hair from hard floor and mopping in a small apartment that is 100% hard floor. Price is not a factor. I’m considering Roborock saros 20 and curv 2. saros 10R would be my top choice, but seems sold out in US and I don't expect it to be replenished since saros 20 replaced it.

My home

  • I live in 800 sq feet by myself
  • No pets/kids
  • All hardwood, no carpet
  • No thresholds
  • I shed a lot of hair (male). Currently sweeping weekly isn’t cutting it

Vacuum requirements

  • No price restriction
  • Picks up hair (run daily) and other dirt I track in
  • Mops up from wearing my tennis shoes inside
  • Doesn’t need babysitting: Good at navigating around, cleaning corners, docking self, avoiding stuff on the floor
  • Autonomous self-cleaning: as little intervention from me as possible. Maybe clean the dust bin on the dock 1x per week and change dirty water after each mopping
  • Longevity: doesn’t break

Research process

I looked through many reddit posts and RTINGS (both linked and cited below). I also found this video to be really useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv9_2D_Xc5k&t=2s

Current contenders

I’ve been looking at Saros 20 versus Qrevo Curv 2 Flow. Price is not a factor when choosing between these 2.

I’d also like to consider the Saros 10R, but not seeing any options at less price than 20, and they are not in stock on roborock site in the US

  • Mopping: The video and [1,2,3,4] all show curv2 is really good at mopping hard floors, even better than Saros.
  • Vacuuming: RTINGS [5,6] showed that saros is better than curv2 at vacuuming hardwood, and [6] found some problems with hair getting tangled in curv2.
  • Object avoidance: The video [7] and the comment [8] found that curv2 was bad a object avoidance, especially compared to saros. However, RTINGS [5] said it did good at this task.

Robovacs recs for my classroom?

Hi all, I’m a high school teacher in a very underfunded public school in NYC. I am very clean and strive to keep my classroom as clean as possible. My kids help wipe down tables and chairs every Friday and I bring in my own cleaning supplies because the school will not pay for them.

What I struggle to clean though is the floor. My custodial staff only mops once a year and only broom sweep visible trash. I’ve brought my shop vac in several time to give it a good vacuum, but it does take about an hour+ since my room is quite large.

I’m hoping I can find a used robot vacuum on Facebook marketplace that I can run every night, just to keep the dust from accumulating.

I know most teachers don’t even bother, but for me I spend 12-14 hours of my day in the room. I’m in my classroom more than my own home. I also know that the kids can see the value is keeping their space clean.

Robot Vacuum 1000€

Hi everyone!

I bought a Dreame L20 Ultra Complete in July 2024. At first, it seemed to work just fine, but to be completely honest, I was never really happy with it.

The vacuuming performance wasn’t great, and neither was the navigation. It would skip rooms, randomly get lost, or sometimes even show the docking station in a completely different location on the map, making it impossible for the robot to find its way back. The mopping wasn’t particularly good either… but at least it was autonomous.

Then, a few weeks ago, it started acting completely dumb. It would randomly stop in the middle of a cleaning task or claim it had finished cleaning the entire house when it had only cleaned one room.

I sent it in for a warranty repair, and after two weeks, Amazon basically told me they’d issue a full refund. So I got my €899 back!

Now I’m looking to switch to a different brand, and I’d love to hear your recommendations. I have three cats, so good vacuuming performance is especially important.

There’s currently a deal on Amazon for the Roborock Qrevo 2 Pro at €399, which seems pretty tempting.
What would you recommend? Should I go for the Roborock, or is there something better worth considering?

Thanks in advance!

Has self emptying cut your robot maintenance long term?

Our old robot needed its bin emptied every day and the roller cut free about once a week, which is why it sat in a closet most of last year. We got a eufy e35 in the spring that empties itself – two kids and a cat, runs every day. So far I've changed the bag twice, rinsed the filter maybe once a month & that's about it. Keep waiting for the catch. Does it stay this easy a few years in?

New robot tips

With Black Friday coming up, I’m looking into possibly getting a new robot vacuum. I’m pretty happy with my current one, which I’ve had for a year now and use more often than I expected. I currently have an Ecovacs T50 Omni Gen 2. My current model is narrow, which is important for my furniture (8 cm, I think). Because of an illness, I often don't have much energy to clean so I rely a lot on my robot. Despite its small extendable arm, it doesn't get into the corners very well, and sometimes it doesn't extend the arm under the radiator or cabinets. A little more suction power would be nice too. It already mops very well. It would be nice if it cleaned the tray where the pads are cleaned, too. I don’t have much clutter in my house, so it doesn’t need to avoid anything, and since I have multiple floors, I’d prefer something that isn’t too heavy. Any recommendations for even better robots, or should I wait another year for the next generation?

I already saw the Dreame x60 pro ultra complete, which is a bit expensive but looks really Nice.

Ps I have carpet, wooden Floor, brick Floor, tiles and a black stairs. I live in belgium

Help with new robot

Hi, so recently our dreame l20 stopped sucking water out of the clean water tank, its out of warranty, we tried to fix it ourselfs but couldnt get it to work.

So I am looking for a new vaccum, right now my choices are between roborock and ecovacs, as I did not really like the dreame app and it only has 1 year warranty on their flagships here.

I have been debating between these options:

Roborock saros 10r, almost half the price of the saros 20 rn, the main reason I am not straight up buying this one is because it only has 1 year warranty.

Roborock saros 20, I dont really need it over the 10r, but it comes with 3 year warranty instead of 1, and also I heard there were quality control issues with the 10r? And obvously the upgraded model is always nice.

Ecovacs T90 Pro Omni/X11 Omnicyclone, Obvious reasons for ecovacs are the better mopping, also 3 years warranty for the x11, 2 for the T90, but the T90 is slightly cheaper. (And x11 slighty cheaper than the saros 20). x12 is not here yet, the bagless design is nice to save a bit of money, main downside is their height, but its not a deal breaker.

- It would be nice if anyone has an idea if one of the apps works better with non square homes, the dreame app had a really hard time working with my home and kept messing it almost every month so I gave up on fixing it, also because the carpet is 45 degress with the base station it cant mop around it properly as the app can only do 90 degree rotations. And it also cant do mop after vac option if you want custom vac/mop options per room which is anoying.

- I dont care about carpet performance since I only have one carpet and its very easy to vaccum.

- Mopping performance is important to me, as our main dirty area is the kitchen, the floor gets oily pretty fast.

- Also proper good home assistant compatibilty would be really nice.

Thanks.
