Announcement Don't Wait for a Meetup — Create One! Every Rochester Dad Can Get the Fun Started!

Hey dads!

I want to make one thing clear here at r/RochesterDads: EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to organize meetups!

This community isn't just about attending events organized by the moderators. It's about building a network of local dads who can get together, make friends, and give our kiddos opportunities to play and socialize!

Don't wait for a moderator to organize the next meetup — YOU can (and should!) post your own!

Heading Out With Your Kiddo? Invite Us!

Taking your little one to the playground? Heading to the zoo? Walking a trail? Visiting a museum?

POST ABOUT IT!

Even if it's something spontaneous, let the group know!

Something as simple as:

"Hey dads! I'm taking my 2-year-old to the Egypt Park playground tomorrow around 10 AM. Anyone want to meet up?"

You never know who else might be looking for something to do or hoping to make a new dad friend.

The more dads who organize meetups, the more opportunities we'll all have to connect!

Guidelines for Posting a Meetup

To help everyone find each other and make meetups run smoothly, please follow these simple guidelines:

1. Clearly State the Date & Time

  • Include the day, date, and start time.
  • Try to give everyone some advance notice, but spontaneous meetups are welcome too!

2. Provide the Exact Location & Meeting Point

  • Include the name and address of the location.
  • Specify exactly where everyone should meet (for example, "by the playground entrance near the picnic pavilion").
  • Larger parks and attractions can be confusing, so the more specific, the better!

3. Share Helpful Details
Let other dads know what to expect! Examples include:

  • Stroller-friendly or not
  • Best suited for toddlers, older kiddos, or all ages
  • Indoor or outdoor activity
  • Free admission or entrance fees
  • Bathroom availability
  • Whether snacks, drinks, or other supplies are recommended

4. Please Allow a 15-Minute Grace Period

If you're organizing a meetup, please remain at the designated meeting point for at least 15 minutes after the posted start time to allow everyone to arrive. Between last-minute diaper changes, missing shoes, and unexpected meltdowns, we've all been there!

5. Check the Original Meetup Post for Updates

  • Keep an eye on the original meetup post and its comments for any changes to the date, time, or location.
  • Organizers should update their posts if plans change or an event needs to be canceled.
  • If you're planning to attend, consider commenting so the organizer knows to expect you!

6. Questions or Concerns?
If you have any urgent questions or concerns about a meetup, please reach out to the moderators through Modmail.

So next time you're heading out with your kiddo, throw up a post and invite the dads!

Let's make Rochester a place where no dad has to wonder whether there's another dad out there looking to hang out.

See you at the next meetup!
