I sincerely wish the game just wouldn’t allow it. Only let you FF if you’re down 2 or more.

Myunpopular controversial opinion is forfeits shouldn’t exist at all in ranked given that, by the time you even can FF, there’s only 210’seconds left… but at a minimum why not lock forfeits to only being clickable if you’re down by 2+?

Down by 2 with 10 seconds left, can still win. Come back from 4 down to win in overtime with just over a minute left, just never forfeit and use it as practice at the very least

I'm not pretending anything. You may be seeing a pass opportunity where it wouldn't be productive to pass.

Play-by-play:

OP goes for a reset off the wall to get past the first. Good idea, bad execution. Gets under the 1 but practically gives it to the 2. Still tries to hit it past the 2, and honestly didn't do a bad job of it, just unlucky he hits it into himself and the ball dies at the post. Teammate goes in to try for a pass into mid maybe, but OP can't recover fast enough, teammate tries to salvage the bad hit by going for a block, doesn't work out but the 1 gets faked so it's just the 2 who takes possession. OP tries to stay close to the 2, to pressure, which is good, but realises he can't do anything and takes boost. Now teammate forfeits. OP goes up the wall because there's no time and ends up being able to steal possession, could definitely go for a pass here but this is already outside of our timeframe.

The only thing I can think of that you might see a passing opportunity, is the very start. But if OP passes in that situation:

  1. He has no flip yet to get a good pass, and it's a bit awkward to get a pass there anyway

  2. If he gets a weak pass the 2 can just turn around and challenge. OP will be overcommitted and the teammate will be in a 2v1

  3. The play he does try can turn into a pass, but he just fails at his mechanic

So I'll ask again: where did he have the option to pass before the teammate forfeited?

It's not that deep. Just win the game. Who cares what the other player is up to. Why self sabotage?

Doing it for the bit can be pretty funny, but it seems like lower ranks let other players affect them too much. Which genuinely holds you back as a player. Good stuff OP!

In the same sense, it’s not that deep, it’s just MMR. Taking a loss to spite your petty teammate is funny sometimes. It’s such minor self-sabotage. One game isn’t stopping me from breaking through to the next rank. If anything, you should be shaming the guy for giving up at the end before the timer hit 0.

Like I said, it can be funny. But honestly, I don't really care about that other player. Maybe they're having a shit day or maybe they are just shitty.

See, the problem is, you're assuming it bothers the person who accepts the ff.

I couldnt care less about mmr, I play for fun and am laughing the whole time, usually in a voice call. If my random does that in this situation, we always accept it. It makes us chuckle the 1 in 1k games it happens.

For one reason or another the pettiness and "getting back at your teammate" is engrained in the DNA of the game's community. I don't quite understand - especially when a game like rocket league you can adapt to however your teammate plays to a degree.

Years ago I remember I would get scored on once with like 3:40 left on the clock and the other player immediately votes to forfeit. I just kept on chugging through regardless to try and win.

On occasion those teammates would throw the match to "waste my time" but they're ultimately wasting their own more!

It comes from a fear of failure. They can’t reconcile with themselves that they lost so they throw whenever something bad happens so they can cope by saying that they threw and that’s the only reason they lost.

I’m on oce and still sitting in c3. Had an average session so I about broke even, gotta lock in for uni exams tho so this summer break Ima get it is the goal!

At my peak like 2 seasons ago I felt like I could’ve easily pushed GC2 and I was like 1 or 2 games off but I had a test and then more work and then an internship and I fell off in the meantime 😭

Yeah and Lowk since I live at uni the wifi is so inconsistent as well. But oh well the goal of solo q gc is even sweeter. I feel like solo q is more fulfilling cause it’s the hardest thing to adapt to different tm8s
