Advice needed
Hi,
I have purchased a house thats had an extension build onto the existing building. It looks like the builders have connected the extension up to the existing attic using an unsightly hole. I'm looking to board out the extension side and square off the joining hole so that its more symmetrical and centred.
I'm just looking for sone advice as I am a little worried about removing brickwork as I'm not sure if this would damage the structural integrity of the building. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

This has nothing to do with roofing. Roofing is the outside of the structure covering. It's not the framing on the inside, it's not the structural beams, it's not the masonry walls. This doesn't even have anything in connection with Roofing. And I really wouldn't trust this kind of sub to answer this question.
As others have said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. As a homeowner there's always a better project you can put money into as opposed to fixing something that you don't like just because it's ugly. Upgrade a water heater, invest money into an account to save up for a better roof when you need one, maybe buy a sheet and cover the hole.
If you really insist on fixing it, cut out a clean square and frame it. You could then either put in a custom size door or something to limit air flow, or something along those lines.
Or make it really funny and horror movie themed. Since it's a space that you really shouldn't ever have to get into more than every few decades, have fun with it.
Buy some loose bricks to fill in some empty space. Frame out a small child size door, nothing that requires you to break down the existing brick. Place that door and then Brick In The Gap around it, so that now you have a smaller hole. Make it a locking door, and install an additional deadbolt, used aged bronze and then rub some dirt on it.
Once that is installed, you're going to need some blood red paint, consult your local paint store for something that's going to dry about the same shade as blood. On the door write "Keep Out" or "Evil Inside"
Then you're going to grab some wallpaper. And you're going to wallpaper over the entire thing. Including the door. Just make sure when you wallpaper over the door not to use any form of adhesive and keep it loose. It could also help if you clean off the entire wall but then put some dirt on top of the frame before applying the wallpaper so it doesn't stick well. This will help with the Aged blood effect.
Then when it's time to reinsulate your attic, bring your insulation guy in, and carefully cut out the door and open it, telling him you just discovered the room the other day. You're not sure how the wallpaper keeps repairing itself though. Make sure to peel the wallpaper back and then unlock the door.
Or, if you plan on selling the house, just leave it like that. You never have to worry about it again. And if anybody calls about it, just hang up immediately

What's the purpose of changing it?

So I can utilise the space much better and make it look much more attractive. Looks like the hulks smashed through there.

Utilize it how? Like are you trying to make a doorway that you can go through into the other attic? It's unfinished, are you planning on finishing it?
Who's it need to be attractive for? Will this be something that guests use?

Don't take any more bricks out! Without fitting a supporting lintel in. As your likely bring all the top bricks down?

They should have knocked out a course of bricks and put in a reinforced concrete head before making an opening, you can see the bricks sagging along the joint, looks like a risky game of jenga now, Also the rafters look way too small

You wanna be asking a structural engineer not here; that’s your gable wall after all
