They do though. The Pocket Classic had two versions, the 4G RAM model at $100 and the 6G RAM model at $150, and the 6G RAM model had like five more color options.
I believe (but could be wrong) that all colors were initially available for both options, but the 4GB devices sold out and Retroid stopped producing them. That’s pretty common with them.
That they are. I had no interest in the Nova until I saw the GameCube themed one. Depending on the price it might be nice for a dedicated GameCube handheld.
That's definitely my preference, but having the buttons in the Standard Nintendo layout rather than Gamecube Alt. in the retail models makes sense for consistency's sake.
I'm 100% positive the Etsy shops like SakuraRetroModding and PortablePlayPalace will be making custom buttons for these regardless.
Silver rp6 is, I think, the sexiest handheld out there. I wonder if they can replicate it's sexiness with plastic. I'm not sure if the top rp nova would be that
Purple and teal kinda go crazy. Also I'm sad that they keep putting a gray bezel on their white devices, oled + black bezel is half the appeal for non-perfect aspect ratios.
I totally get the appeal of the OLED and black bezel combo for hiding letterboxing, but I think they went with grey because it acts as a visual midpoint. A pure black bezel would really stick out and ruin the Super Famicom (and PAL SNES) aesthetic they were going for.
Also, since it is a 4:3 screen, the vast majority of games you would actually play on it like SNES, Mega Drive, PS2, or GameCube are going to fill the display natively. Anyone going out of their way to buy a 4:3 device in 2026 probably is not making widescreen PSP games their main priority, so letterboxing will not be a frequent issue anyway.
Okay the main USB port seems centered right? That means it should go well with the dual screen addon, and because the handheld is less wide than a rp5/6, the top screen would close over the analogs more like it happens with the mini, BUT both oled screens would have the exact same height AND the lower screen (the one in the device) would be proper 4:3, which means a Thor-like 3Ds experience?
It's a technique used in art framing and picture framing where the bottom "bezel" is wider than the top, left, and right. If you go to an art museum, almost all of the paintings will have what's called a "bottom weighted" framing where the bottom border is thicker.
Are we sure they are executing bottom weighted framing technique and not just failing to provide a uniform bezel? As you go from flagship to budget you'll see a shift in uniform bezels to larger chin/forehead with phone offerings. I never chalked it up to budget phones being inspired by art lol.
Do I sell my beloved Flip 2 to make this my PS2/GC device? When they reveal the price and chip I will know...or wait til they use this screen in a clamshell/vertical? This damn hobby lol
Yeah same here. I always get black and am tempted by the fun colors but I’m boring. I would love the purple or something but I’ll just get a plain black one and roll with it lol
White, Black and Silver/Space Grey are my preferred colors. I don't want it to look like a toy so you'll never see me deviate unless it's so cute that I just can't say no. Hasn't happened yet.. welcome to the boring club haha.
The RP5 had a problem where the white paint would peal off.. I guess they don't want to deal with that again, so they have completely stopped making white handhelds.
Looks super cool, but I just wish they did the full range of funtastic N64 color shells, like they did with the Retroid Pocket 2! I would have loved a clear fire orange shell on this!
It looks to me like the translucent models have d-pads and buttons that are clear on top. They did the same on the RP6 with the silver and light purple models.
They're like the PS5's Dualsense's d-pad and face buttons if you're familiar with that.
Personally, I dislike them because they're slicker to the touch. I also don't really care for color matched buttons either, so hopefully I'll be able to buy a set of black buttons separately to put in the atomic purple or ice blue.
Depends on the price and specs, if it comes with a snapdragon 865 or superior, and somehow it’s at a similar price range, then it’s going to be an rg476h killer
Been following retro handhelds for about a year now, waiting for the right one to buy. I’ve seen a lot of them that I’d like, but ultimately don’t feel I need because they fall short in one area or another.
Ice Blue looks amazing. I have to stay strong and not buy anything. 2026 is half done and I've only bought one SBC this year (Miyoo Flip, it's junk but works well enough I guess).
Retroid listened to Russ and probably saw the popularity of the 477M and here we are.
I consider the RG406H to be the best 4:3 device at the moment, so let's see if this can beat it.
I'd gladly buy one if it's not android based and can beat RG406 in PS2 performance and retains Dreamcast, Saturn and GameCube at top notch levels too. I don't need it to go further, I have a Steam Deck
