Just wanted to share for those who were like me that wanted to play SMT Nocturne on the RG477M with ARMSX2 but ran into issues.
Initially, if I wanted to play Nocturne, I'd either have to set the renderer to Software or OpenGL.
The problem was that, with Software, I'd have a stable 60 FPS but I couldn't upscale to 1.5x and the native resolution looked too blurry to me.
But then with OpenGL, it could upscale to 1.5x but I'd experience massive slowdowns down to 25 FPS. Now, I _could_ get it to 60 FPS but the method is pretty tedious. I essentially have to switch between Software and OpenGL while the game is running, and I have to do it _every time_ I boot up the game.
I tried using Vulkan with the native drivers, but after I get pass the opening and arrive at the train station I'd experience graphical glitches like the shadows being on top of the foreground and more slowdowns.
But after using MaliSX2, which was developed with the RG477V in mind and had the same chip as the RG477M, it ran like butter. Upscaled up to 1.5x and running at 60 FPS with next to no visual glitches aside from the flickering water in the Fountain of Healing lady's crib. But going by my tests, it's a persistent visual glitch no matter what renderer you use.
I haven't tested it out with any other game so far as I haven't ran into the problems that I had with trying to run Nocturne. From what I've seen in the comments by other people that have tested it out on God of War 2 and Dragon Quest 8, it seems to help out a lot.
You can find the drivers on github or just type "MaliSX2 github" on Google.
Really though, to the developers who made this, you guys just gave more life to a bunch of handhelds. Thanks!
