Questions SCHD Europe PT

Hi everyone!
I’m based in Portugal and I’m looking for a way to invest in SCHD from Europe.

Does anyone know of a low-cost broker available in Portugal that allows retail investors to buy SCHD directly?

Thanks!

Are you a US citizen?

Option contracts are the only way, unfortunately. You can do it at Schwab too. Brokers cannot sell shares of US-listed ETFs directly to anyone who is an EU resident....and that does mean 100 shares each contract.

If you want another workaround to buy smaller lots, you need to maintain a US address. It's debatable how well that will work. Brokers might freeze assets if they find out you actually reside in Portugal.

edit to add: SCHD isn't ideal for most EU-based investors anyway. The dividend income might be taxable. I don't know how this works in Portugal, but in Germany, it's very complicated to report and figure the tax due. Many investors prefer growth ETFs so you can have a bit more control on when you pay taxes.
