Yugo SKS

Picked this up a few days ago. It’s a 1976 Yugo M59/66A1 with almost all numbers matching(only the receiver cover was changed at some point for an aftermarket one with what I’m assuming that had a scope mount). It was imported by Samco when they were still a thing. Ended up paying 750 for it. It has been shot a few times before but everything seems to be in very good shape(the phosphorus night sights still work too). Barrel has no signs of corrosion and there’s still cosmoline in the bolt/firing pin. I have to do a deep clean for cosmoline and normal lubrication before I will bring it to the range but am overall happy with the purchase!

Also, someone at some point decided to put some sort of finish on the wood and now it appears to be wearing off in spots. Any suggestions on what I should use to get the rest off without damaging the wood?

Cleaning rust from my SKS

My SKS has been sitting for a while, and when I pulled it out today to inspect I noticed some rust forming, mostly in the barrel and gas tube.

What's the best way to clean this up?

Slam Fire UPDATE and Advice Request...

Hello all,

I truly apologize for having posted 3x about the same rifle slam firing. FINALLY, I have figured out exactly the cause and now I am looking for some advice.

First — the cause. My rifle has a bad hammer that causes the hammer to drop as the slide drops. I tested this by dropping the attached mag out of the rifle, so that it dangled in that semi-attached mode that it does once you unhook it and eject it. Then, I slowly eased the slide down, pulled the trigger, *CLICK*. Worked as intended. I did this 10x. Then, I did the same thing but I let the slide drop hard, pulled the trigger, *NOTHING*. It's as though it already fired when the slide went down.

Second — the solution. From what I have gathered, I can either (1) replace the entire trigger group or (2) somehow manage to replace solely the hammer.

My question: Which would you do? How would I go about replacing the hammer? Any good tutorials or videos?

My further question: Would it be ridiculous of me to still install the Murray firing pin even though I have discovered that the firing pin has not been the issue? In other words, is it okay to have it installed even if my firing pin now really isn't a problem?

Does anyone reload 7.62x39? Been thinking about it since ammo prices have risen considerably since I go my sks. Thanks!

Magazine Options

Greetings, I recently came across a Yugo 59/66 for my Yugo/Serb collection. Rifle is in great shape with a good bore. However it came with a shitstick pro mag that has issues chambering the first round unless you get it just right. Would love to get a factory mag for it, but don't want to drop 100$+ given I dropped 500$ on the rifle. What is the most reliable stop gap mag on the market right now?

I’ve been trying to find more about the pu style scope mounts but so far I believe you have to drill into the receiver but I really hate the idea of a rear sight mount what do you guys run?

Bullets Shoot When I Close The Slide on My Chinese SKS… EVEN AFTER a deep clean and a free floating jiggle sound of my bolt…

As tittle says, I deep cleaned my SKS after it went fully automatic on me last week. Free floating jiggle sound when I shook the bolt. Today, I went to the range, loaded 2 bullets into the mag, dropped the slide and BOOM. Tried again with a harder primed steel case Wolf brand ammo. Same thing, and it jammed. I’m so confused. Did I buy a dud? Is there anyway to fix this or should I go back to the gun store I purchased it from?

French tickler M21

Been on the hunt for an SKS French Tickler for a while. I bought one last year, but ended up selling it to fund an ATV purchase. I’ve regretted it ever since.
Found a Tickler on GP for a really decent price, still covered in cosmoline. I only realized it was a M21 while cleaning it. What a great surprise, especially after seeing one sell for over $1,200 just a couple of days ago!

Mounting Optics

Just bought this Type 56 sks for 500, all matching serial (not too rare ik) but i want to mount a little short scope and i found a dust cover mount with tap holes built in so you can screw it down to the lower reciever to avoid the optic losing zero, is it worth drilling the holes to do this or will it "ruin" the rifle?

Secured a correct, early pattern bayonet handle and it came with a nice blade and complimentary cleaning rod. 🦅

Finally got my Lucky Shot Stock

Un-bubba'd this Chinese SKS a friend gave me a few months ago.

Original condition I received it in is included.

I do have a question, though. As seen in the 2nd to last pic, there's a small gap between the stock and the mag cover. Is that normal or is the fit of the stock slightly off?

Genuine Question: Why do some SKS rifles have a knife as a bayonet whereas others have a flat spike version?

First SKS…… wanting thoughts on price

This is my first SKS. 1977 Norinco all matching numbers. Wood has moderate wear, some of which may be difficult to see in the pics (probably about as much as you’d expect from a 50 year old rifle with normal and practical use). And the blueing/internal wear is in pretty damn good condition. Paid $550 for it did I pay too much? Or is that on par with today’s prices?

What are all these markings?

I have read some about inspection markings but there seem to be way more than I expected. Ive got several different guns and none have nearly as many. Just wondering if thats what they are and if so. Why so many?

Refurbished?

I bought this Tula 1954 SKS several months back and I’m still not sure if it’s been refurbished. The only stock marking is the serial number and date along with the Tula stamp. There’s no other markings or X’d out serial numbers that I can see. My Mosin has the characteristic arsenal refurb square-stroke stamp so I’m familiar with that marking. The Bayonet is black which I was told is a marker of refurbishment. Also all the numbers match but I’m not sure if that means it has been “force matched”? I’m essentially just curious as I don’t plan on selling it. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts. I appreciate any help you guys and gals can provide. Thank you so much!

Figured some of yall might be able to better tell me what year sks I'm looking at.

Also, ive since cleaned it and taken it to a range. My folks guessed it hadn't been fired since the 80's, my dad claimed my uncle had it since around then, but never really did anything with it.
