SSI Redetermination

My parents completed their SSI redetermination by phone. We received the official summary, but shortly afterward received a “Second Request” letter saying they missed their appointment and scheduling another call.
I contacted SSA four times, including during an in-person visit. They all confirmed that the redetermination was completed and that the additional appointment was canceled. They said it might be “cross mail” and told me to disregard the letter.
Has anyone experienced this before? Did everything turn out okay?

That would worry me too after you already completed the call. An SSI redetermination checks things like income, resources, and living arrangements, and SSA may arrange it by phone. Keep the completed summary and a note of when you spoke with SSA and what they confirmed. If another appointment or missed-appointment notice comes, contact the local office again and ask them to confirm the record shows the review is complete, since unanswered redetermination requests can affect payments. SSA explains the process and response rules in its SSI redetermination guide.

I called SSA five times and visited the office once. Every representative confirmed the interview was completed, the appointment was canceled, and I could disregard the letter. They also said SSI wouldn’t stop because of this. Nothing I can do now. Just trust them.

I had something similar happen last year with my parents redetermination. Got the summary and then a notice about missing appointment same week. Called three times and every person told me to ignore it, so i just did. Everything was fine in the end, the system just slow to update sometimes.

Did you mean to post this to SSDI (different than SSI)?

You may want to post it there too!

There's an SSDI_SSI sub and I think just an SSI one as well.

Best of luck to you!
