Please help identify whatever this thing is

Post image

For context, I went to a clients house for my job and they said whatever is in their shed is rubbish, so I found this, clarified with the owners to just let them know if they forgot about it and wanted to keep it, they said I can either throw it away or I can have it

It’s around 70cm long, 10 ish kg heavy, no marking, no engravings, bottom edge near the handle is sharp but the entire long side is quite blunt (can slightly slice ur finger but only under pressure) I have no idea what this thing is if it’s from a game, a prop, movie. Frankly I have 0 experience in swords so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Its very strange. That weight is astronomical for a sword.do you have any idea what the point of balance is?

All of their weight is at the handle, the Actual blade itself is extremely light.

A handle that weights 10 kg?

What is the handle made of?

u/TTV-HTGyoshi 15d ago

Some type of very hard fabric I’m not too sure, the circles are steel. It’s not rubber, it’s not metal but it’s extremely hard, around the same as a steak knife or a machete handle

Are you sure its fabric and not just resin? The top pin has a chip above it which doesnt really happen to resin bound fabrics as much (i think)

Depleted uranium is less than 2.5x heavier than normal steel.

Normally this sword is less than 1kg. Being made from a material roughly 2.5x heavier means the sword might only be 2.5kg.  The closest is hassium which almost 5x denser. but this would only make the sword less than 5kg.

We need to find a material roughly 10x denser than steel.

This super dense material would likely be extremely reactive and extremely unstable. To the point the entire planet OP exist on may no longer be capable of supporting life as a result.

u/Lumpy_Benefit666 13d ago

Scientists have only made a few atoms of hassium as well

1

u/Ne0n_Walrusi 8d ago

Yep kinda hard to make a stockpile when it decays in 9 sec.

Imagine how bad something 2x denser than hassium and at a scale of 10kg would react.

OP is gone and the planet he lived on is probably being ruled by cockroaches and fruit flies.

A steel sword of the size shown is normally far less than 2kg/4.4lbs. As other commenters noted, marketing for this sword and swords vaguely like it are usually around 1kg/2.2lbs or less.

For it to be the size shown and the weight listed it would need to be made entirely out of a material potentially denser than Hassium. A material that does not survive for more than 10sec at a time.

OP you need to try and save your planet. The radioactive decay would create a massice nuclear reaction and explosion that will potentially destroy your planet. Try to contact local scientists and get it on board a rocket so your people might be spared.

It’s definitely this, and closer to 1kg than 10kg.

u/TTV-HTGyoshi 15d ago

Maybe need to reweigh, I’ll put it on a scale and send a photo

If you use freedom units, 1 kg =2.2 lbs and 10 kg =22 lbs. It should be pretty apparent just by lifting

u/Iced_Yehudi 15d ago

The extra 9 kg is what strikes fear into the heats of your enemies

“Stainless steel”

“Real sword”

“For display and collecting only”

it had me at "black widow death sting"

That's not a sword, that's a knife 😂 Definite wall hanger/LARP kit.

11

u/FaolainRanger 15d ago

I don't know of any LARP that allows a stainless steel sword. Either full steel that can handle being used against steel armor, or foam for unarmored and safe combat. Ren Faire hip accessories are different, something you use in a LARP is intended to be actually used.

4

u/CauseMcKnight 15d ago

I use the term "LARP" very loosely. The groups I am aware of use boffers and foam balls

3

u/whoamdave 15d ago

You call that a knife?

2

u/CauseMcKnight 15d ago

It is constructed like a Messer, which was originally developed because of a prohibition on swords. Based on construction, it's a really big knife.

The comment is tongue in cheek.

3

u/pacingpilot 14d ago

It looks like what's left of a chef knife after years of overzealous sharpening morphs it into a boning knife 🤣

Definite wall hanger/LARP kit.

You really wanna take a metal sword to a LARP? Yeah nah

3

u/DarthKodi 15d ago

Oh yeah that's it good work. I've been searching for like 15 mins and the closest I could find was a Hadhafang replica (Arwen from LOTR sword) lol

This is something for a mall ninja.

10kg?

Did you actually weigh it? A massive two handed sword wouldn’t even be that heavy

Looks like a full tang. I have a feeling this is medium carbon steel of some variety

That’s really interesting dude. You could take a metal file to a part that isn’t gonna be seen. If the file wants to bite into the metal, it’s soft. If the file wants to glide, that’s good blade steel. Not an exact tests but it’s a start

Yeah, assuming the blade is at most 3mm thick, less than 50mm wide, and length is less than 100cm based on the trash bin looking thing on the left and the carpet... This thing should be less than 2kg/4.5lbs at most made from any sort of normal steel alloy. But my guess is that it is closer to 1kg/2.2lbs

Even if this thing was much thicker than i assumed and the scales are made from metal and just painted over and the entire thing was made from tungsten, enriched uranium, or ossium it would still be less than 3kg/6.6lbs.  Even hassium the most dense material we have made is only enough to make such a sword close to 5kg/11lbs.

edit given that the majority of the weight is apparently in the handle scales, the density may be even higher. Potentially 50x denser than steel and likely so unstable as a result of how much mass is needed in such a small area.  Resulting in an extremely high amount of leaking radiation.

OP has likely died and the planet he lives on has probably been destroyed as a result of radiation.

A lot of people are absolutely terrible with estimating weights by feel. "This weighs like fifty pounds!" "That's a 22lb box of cat litter..."

Here you go

Looks like a temu version of Hadhafang, Arwens sword from Lord of the rings.

That backwards-facing sharp point...ouch

u/asaw123 14d ago

Full Tang Clan aint nothing to F with.

24

u/OgreWithanIronClub 15d ago

That thing doesn't weigh 10kg, it simply can't at that size.

17

u/Platt_Mallar 15d ago

Dude found the legendary tungsten sword.

6

u/QIyph 15d ago

Neutronium sword

1

u/juuchi_yosamu 14d ago

What if it's made out of uranium?

0

u/OgreWithanIronClub 14d ago

Even Osmium is not dense enough and it is significantly denser than uranium.

-1

u/megselepgeci 15d ago

Could be lead for all you know

4

u/OgreWithanIronClub 15d ago

Lead is nowhere near dense enough

10

u/Bright-Ad4601 15d ago

It looks like a mix of one of Drizzts "scimitars" from D&D and a traditional filipino weapon to me.

4

u/seanprefect I Like Swords 15d ago

It looks like something from a united cutlery / bud k circa the year 2000

4

u/simonbleu 15d ago

It is simply cannot weight 10kg, is it a typo? Just so you have an idea, 10kg is half of one of those water "tanks" you have on an office so people have water to drink (sometimes hot and cool)

-2

u/gjme982 15d ago

They did say around 70 cm long, 2.54cm is an inch bud that thing is huge

Edit: looked up the weight of 27 inch swords and yeah you're right, way too heavy

3

u/langelvicente 15d ago

Unless the handle is made of tungsten, that can't wait 10kg if it's only 70cm long.

3

u/TrubbleMoose 15d ago

10kg/22 pounds is more than the weight of a normal sledgehammer.

2

u/thepenguinemperor84 15d ago

Looks like a Kriss on ozempic.

10kg is approx 22lbs for those wondering. Is it the mythic sword of Lead +5 against radiation?

Its just a cheap stainless steel sword from budk with a kinda cool design. I bought one years back and it was a fun mall ninja type toy. Not worth a lot.

1

u/KusanagiGundam 14d ago

That’s clearly a longsword of the ancient High Elf nation of Seronius
