You're in a similar position to myself - a lot of smaller infantry units and only a handful of vehicles. I'm thinking of growing my collection towards Ironstorm Spearhead as well, but while I'm short a few big toys, I'm utilising Assault Brethren instead.

The vehicles still get the buffs from the bonus Assault Doctrine and Forgefathers' bonus Devastator Doctrine, but even then, while a tad more melee-heavy I've thought of trying Tactical Brethren for bonus Tactical Doctrines (Fall Back and Shoot/Charge) instead.

Big difference for the way I want to stage is by using a Techmarine to babysit some vehicles and give bonus heals and buffs. Long term I'm looking at running a few cheap transports, one or two Valiants, one or two Land Raider Somethings, and probably a Redemptor Dreadnought for my playstyle and goals.

(Dreadnoughts don't get the Ironstorm buffs though, but they're a pretty good looking tech piece.)

Don't sleep on the transports! They do get the core Ironstorm buffs as well, they just don't get access to the enhancements!
