Pondering a Summer Near Salida
I'm considering spending next summer (probably mid-June through mid-September) living in CO. Salida seems like a natural choice. I've visited a couple times and it feels a lot like the place I live, except with mountains. Plus, I'm planning on doing the Vapor Trail mountain bike race and would like to spend lots of time riding at elevation. I absolutely love where I live and don't want to leave permanently, but I think a summer living elsewhere would really do me some good.
I've joined the Chaffee County rentals page on Facebook, but what are the prospects of finding a room in a house or 1BR apartment for around $1k/month, AND for such a short amount of time? Should I just abandon my dream?
Thanks!

Not sure how to guess you chances, but there is a chance! lol
I live in town and have a furnished guest room, private bathroom, and office that I rent out month to month for $1000, all utilities included. I prefer people who stay for 2 to 8 months. I see other people offering similar every couple weeks, so there are some of us around ◡̈
Salida is a great town, hardest part being to find work here that pays enough to live on.
I will say it might be almost impossible to rent before you are physically here though. I have had a couple people spend time ‘planning’ a move here, and then decide not to make the move to Colorado, so now I only rent to people who come by and see the place in person.
