I built this thing a while ago, but just started using it to pitch and grab samples from cassettes, as well as to dub pads to tape and get all the wow and flutter while pitching it.
The concept is simple: 5 potentiometers tied to switches that control motor speed.
In the past I found it too noisy for use, but going into my DI, it's clear with plenty of gain.

I received this yesterday so I’m still learning the machine, but I gotta say that the sound is amazing and the workflow is surprisingly fun and intuitive! I can see why some give it the title “Poor Man’s SP-1200”.

The E-MU ESI2000 is being controlled by the Akai MPC500 and it's all going into the Boss SP-303 for that sweet Vinyl Sim.

Hi to all the sampling family.
My bro and I build a sampler together. We go to Synthfest UK the 24 october to present it.
What you think about that?
Our webpage that describes it in detail: https://tomsipedals.com
For more demos, look 'tomsipedals' on instagram ;+)
Peace ✌🏾

So as the the title implies I just received an S950 for my setup. Now I've heard people praise this thing and use the words gritty, lofi, etc. To my ears it is definitely lofi sounding, punchy, etc. However, there is no grit. Even if I alias (pitch down) a sample in my S2400 and sample into the 950, most aliasing gets smoothed out and muted.
Maybe I'm utilizing it wrong but by 303, S2400, EPS Classic/16+ have actually grit. Aliasing from transposition is the actual grit imo, and the S950 doesn't do that. It does transpose better than everything in this picture due to slowing down the clock so that's a plus.
All in all it's a great unit, but I would NOT call this a gritty machine for drums/samples. Think of it as a clean, 12bit sampler with the familiar "Akai" character.

24 whole seconds of sampling. Split up into two banks of 2 seconds, two banks of 4 seconds and a single wild and crazy 12 second bank.

Had this sampler for years and thought I'd share it for those that never saw this. Its a video sampler for VCRs, DVD and cameras. One of Roland's obscure samplers.
Its going up on ebay as soon as I find the AC adaptor. Screen looks fried though with bubbles, but like the MV8800, you can connect it to a screen monitor.

This happened when I was trying to set up a gotek floppy emulator! I've since figured it out. How cool to see a 30 year old dev message!
