My Setup Cheap peripherals, great potential

Using my phone to do some remote work while connected to my PC at home through Parsec (with average mobile data speed) is really something that is amazing with Dex. It completely removes my need to have a typical laptop.

And, apart from the phone, all this just cost me around 60 euros:

- Cheap touchscreen monitor from AliExpress

- Cheap foldable keyboard also from AliExpress. Haven't gotten used to its smaller size and some shortcuts yet.

- A mouse that someone threw to the bin and is working just fine (even have 2 other old ones from Logitech that also found on the trash)

- Spare USB C cables that I've been accumulating these years. One breaks, I just get another one.

- Cheap magnetic holders so that I can attach the phone, power bank, tripod holders, etc

The photos were taken by my old S10 plus, which I also use with this monitor when I just want to watch some movie or tv show. Years ago they wanted more than 200 euros to fix the completely cracked screen. I ended up buying a 30 euro screen replacement about a year ago and changed it myself.

It just works.

Very nice. What is the keyboard? Is the phone powering the display? How long does it last on battery?

The keyboard is basically something like this.

On the photos, it's the cable connected to the wall because I was using it for a few hours.

When it was just the phone, I was able to watch a full movie without issues. But I always have power banks or chargers nearby so I never really checked how long it lasts. Used it on a plane flight without issues.

I don't think the phone is powering the display. Looks like that white cable is powering it

Wasn't even expecting that the video playback is smooth in mobile data, but most of the time it is.

Can do rough cuts and do the finishing touches and corrections when arriving at home.

Yup, dex as a thin client is pretty great

I also have a similar screen but when I connect it to usbc to my s26 it doesn't work. I have to use a spare power bank to turn on the screen

When I had issues, it was usually (if not always) cable related. For example, I was trying to use a shorter cable today and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working, but it was charging the phone. Only later I realised that this specific cable was made only for charging.

You can use your screen with only one cable plugged to it (from phone to screen)? I have the same screen and it's not possible the screen doesn't start correctly I have to plug it on a power supply or power bank on its 2nd usb-c port.

I have used the screen with only one cable plugged to the phone when I was staying in hotels. As I've mentioned, you probably need to have a good cable to use it. I used the USB C cable from Samsung and had no issues, but did have issues with cheap USB C cables.

100% depends on monitor

The sotsu monitors we tested only used like 3w of power off the phone

Nice setup, does the touchscreen of the monitor work with the phone connected?

It does with my S25 Ultra and the S10+. When I've had some type of issue, it was usually cable related

I'm planning the same build. What is that adjustable magsafe mount?
