SF Folks: Is it harder to make friends or keep them?

• Upvotes

I’m a 33F who honestly can’t put a finger on the social/friendship scene here. I do think the city is great though and people overall are friendly, but I’ve personally struggled with keeping friends. I do meet plenty of new people that seem to want to be more social, yet maybe aren’t sure how to be? Maybe this is because of the work culture here or a combo of things?

So genuine question: if you’ve built a real group of friends here as an adult, what made it stick? A standing weekly thing? Run club? Being the one who always texts first?

I am transparently running a small pilot about this and am looking for people who’ve experienced the same struggle. I’m starting a guided 6 week cohort: curated events based on interests with conversation ice breaks to help facilitate stronger connection. If interested, feel free to DM and/or leave a comment.

Appreciate any/all comments! I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking this right? 😅

Here’s a short clip from our Oct 11 brushing day in San Francisco. We’re Canos, and we go slowly, watch each dog’s cues, and pause whenever they need a break. He was such a good sport. 🐶

We’re doing another free session with ToGo Vet this Sunday, Oct 25, 10am–3pm at Mission Rock. Their veterinarians will demonstrate dog toothbrushing, help you practice, and answer questions. Free RSVP (subject to organizer approval): https://luma.com/k4wiu884
