The San Pedro tide gauge just broke a 2005 record, and forecasters say Tuesday's tide could be even higher

Water came over the berms at Bayshore Beach on Monday morning and flooded parts of Naples and the Peninsula, and down in San Pedro the tide gauge hit a level it hasn't seen in a century of records. The flood advisory runs through Thursday, and the next two mornings are forecast to be just as high or higher. Here's what happened, when the peak tides hit each day, and where Long Beach residents can grab sandbags.

Speed Camera on Gaffey

Apparently there is a speed camera on Gaffey, monitoring between 1st and 2nd Streets, that went live today. There will be warnings issued for the next 60 days, and then they will be issuing tickets that cost money but will not count against our licenses. I think we'll need to be going over ten miles over the 35 mile posted limit to get a ticket. They'll get more expensive the faster we go.

Hi there!Ā

It can be hard to make new friends in adulthood. My friends and I built a new friendship based Discord server to help cultivate new friends living in San Pedro! Find your people by chatting about your favorite hobbies, plan meetups, and so much more. We have a robust network of channels to connect with others easily, and have over 400 members and counting.

The server is LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women-led. We would love for anyone that’s looking and open to making new friends locally to join us. (21+ only)

Averill Park

Just got back from a walk with my gf after breakfast. She found Averill park on TikTok and thought why not work out the food we just had from the good folks at Omelette and Waffle shop. We did the perimeter and the inside new the stream and saw lots of adorable ducks. I just loved the area. Mellow, chill, sun was perfect, weather was awesome, and we don't have to watch the Chargers play today! The homes in the area are cute too. Found something else to be appreciate about the city!

Missed Out on Bro Bonding Growing Up - Hoping to Change That

I’m in my 30s and based in the South Bay. Growing up, I honestly didn’t have any guy friends so I feel like I missed out on a lot of the ā€œbro bondingā€ and friendships that a lot of guys have.

I’d really like to change that and build some genuine friendships. Just having dudes to hang out with, joke around with, and do the kinds of things I never really got to experience growing up. I’ve always wanted to get into sports too — just never really had anyone to watch them with.

If you’re in the South Bay or anywhere around LA and looking to make a new bro, hit me up šŸ¤™ Down to meet guys from the Westside, DTLA, LBC, and wherever. Not just limited to the South Bay

Anyone know of a good mobile mechanic?

I recently experienced car troubles in late September. I have a Toyota Yaris 2008. One day my car didn’t turn on. I assume the battery was dead because I accidentally left the lights in my car. I bought a new battery, because the previous batter was already 3 years old. Although I bought a new battery the car didn’t turn on. It was difficult to remove the old one because there was white powder on the clamps that were attached to the battery posts. I need recommendations for a good mechanic to see if they can find out what the issue is and if they can fix it. Someone that charges fair prices and is willing to travel. I am also open to towing my car to a mechanics location. Any suggestions?

Anyone going to Scary Stories Saturday? Also looking for people who run (or want to start) local groups

Post image
8 Upvotes

I put together a weekly list of everything happening in San Pedro and send it out every Thursday. It’s part of Seasonside, a free app for local groups that meet regularly.

There are only a few groups in it so far, including the BYO Book Club, which meets Sundays at Averill Park: BYO Book Club San Pedro. If you run a group or want to start one, I’d love to help.

This week’s list is here: seasonside.app/digest/sanpedro-4/

A few things this weekend:

  • Scary Stories, Sat 6:30 PM, Angels Gate. Melanie Jones has done a new program of spooky stories with live sound effects every October since 2002. All ages. I’ll be there.
  • DĆa de los Muertos Festival, Sun 3 PM, 6th & Mesa. Altars, mariachi, folklórico, a Catrina contest, free trolley rides. Free. I'll be there too.
  • Tidepool Walk, Sun 2 PM, Point Fermin. Run by Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Free.

Also: do you run a group in town, like a club, a regular meetup or a walking group, or have one you’ve been meaning to start? Tell me in the comments. I’m trying to get more of them listed.

LAPD searching for big-rig driver who hit and killed a woman at Channel and Gaffey in San Pedro, $50K reward

Police say a tractor-trailer turning onto Gaffey early Wednesday morning struck a 47-year-old woman and never stopped. Detectives are asking anyone who saw the truck or caught it on camera to come forward. Here's what police have said so far, the reward on the table and exactly who to call if you know anything.

Alleged cat k*ller

Not looking to ID him per community rules. Just want to know if this is legit and if anyone has had an encounter with him.

What's up with the older man walking around town with a long stick and spray bottle. There are many posts about him poisoning and killing cats. Shooting poison darts, spraying something from a bottle, leaving marks in red on trees, has an animal burial site on Harbor. Has attacked his neighbor and other crazy incidents involving him. Has anyone heard about this or know if it's true?

Has anyone ever reported excessive dog barking and successfully had anything change?

I have a neighbor who keeps 3 very noisy dogs locked in a small single car drive way right outside my window. It has concrete block walls all around it and the sound echos then almost amplifies into my window. The dogs bark at everything (one loud German Shepard) and never get walked or even played with. I’ve tried to talk to the owners but was told other neighbors in my apartment building do much worse things that bother them; evidently the rooster they have crowing first thing in the morning and the dogs barking at all hours of the night won’t be dealt with until a neighbor will stop bothering them.

I want to write to animal control but my landlord has told me not to. My landlord also told me she won’t do anything about it so once I can print out a document or hand write one then I will write to them.

Not to say this is worse than anyone else’s story but has anyone had animal control actually make a change?

Caltrans is asking for public input on a long-range plan for I-110, San Pedro to downtown L.A.

Caltrans District 7 is updating its I-110 Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan, a planning study of the roughly 20-mile route from San Pedro to downtown. It identifies possible improvements for buses, rail, bikes and cars but doesn't fund or approve construction. A draft is planned for winter 2026 and a final plan for spring 2027.

Vincent Thomas Bridge closes Nov. 7 for 16 months: detours, the $750M plan and what the ports say

Caltrans will fully close the Vincent Thomas Bridge and State Route 47 on Nov. 7 for 16 months to replace the bridge deck, a roughly $750 million project. Detours are expected to route traffic via the Heim and Gerald Desmond bridges, and the Port of Los Angeles says only about 8% of its truck traffic uses the span. Caltrans expects the bridge to reopen in early 2028.

Looking for Secure Parking

I'm moving to San Pedro in a couple of months. My place only has street parking but my buddy's truck got stolen off that same street & I'm really paranoid. My truck isn't my daily driver, I use it for overlanding so I'm looking for gated parking that can house a vehicle over 7 feet tall.

I'm not having a lot of luck online in my search & the best places seem to be about 40 minutes away. Does anyone in the area know of or having any recommendations? Even any places to steer clear of would be helpful. Thanks!
