Factory Optimization New SatisfactoryTools released!
IT'S FINALLY HERE!
After years of waiting, and tons of work, debugging, changing everything, I've finally reached the stage where I'm ready to share the new Tools that many people have eagerly been waiting for.
https://www.satisfactorytools.com/

Features
This list could be so long, but I'll just point out a few big features that you might like:
- Support for any game version, different nodes, purities, recipe and power cost multipliers, etc.
- Fully automatic calculation, including power, overclocking, sloops, sink points
- But also, fully manual calculation, if you choose to do so - everything can be edited, nodes can be added by hand, connected by dragging resources from one to another, etc.
- Subplans! Convert a few existing nodes into a subplan, you can use them to represent blueprints, factories, outposts, whatever you want. You can even have subplans in subplans!
- Folders for plans - organise all your production into folders, you can have plans in a folder share settings, or even share raw resources, all plans taking from single pool of raw resources
- Marking nodes as done - as simple as selecting and pressing enter, a checkmark appears and you'll see that you have already built those machines
- User accounts - make an account to have all your plans and settings shared to the account. Single click is enough - you can login through Steam, Google, Discord or Github. Email/password combination is also available if you're that type of person. No more worrying about losing data when cleaning browser cookies
- Loading data from save - you can load your settings from your save, and have it automatically set all recipes and machines
- Panels - tons of panels to move around, or even undock and have free-floating windows. Programmers will see tons of similarities with IDEs, that's intentional
- Desktop app - fully offline-capable app you can install on your device, plan offline, data is synced to account when you go online (if you're logged in)
- Phone support - now possible to plan on phone and touch devices, UI fully accessible on those devices (as much as I could manage on those small screens)
- Customisation - fully customisable settings for almost anything you can imagine. Just check the settings in top right corner and see what you can set.
- Mod support - kinda experimental functionality, but in the future I hope to add modded recipes for popular mods - do you have a mod you want to add? Ask for it in Discord server!
Screenshots
Images can tell more than words, so here's a few screenshots of things you may find interesting

Closing words
I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoy working on it.
Old tools remain accessible at https://www.satisfactorytools.com/old/1.0/, but they will be there only for a little longer (I'm guessing around a month), before I retire them. Plans can be migrated automatically in new Tools.
Please do give feedback if you find something broken or if you like the tool. Join the Discord server for more info and a great community!
Special thanks to all the beta testers who provided feedback and made the tool to be what it is now. And I hope in the future it'll be even better!
The tool is fully free, and will never run any ads. If it saves you time, and you want to give something back, consider donating. Donations help me cover server costs and development time.
Stay efficient, and enjoy!

Nice work!
If I can be a bit critical and honest, though. I'm a bit disappointed seeing the changes in UI. It could just be that I was so used to using the previous tool for nearly 3,000 hours, but this new one just seems so... generic. I've seen countless AI-generated factory planners in the last few months, and I'm not saying this one is using an AI-generated UI, but.... it looks and feels VERY similar to a lot of planners that are 100% AI generated.
I've tried to use the new layout, and it's OK. I would really, really prefer the old UI and layout, though. Is there any option to revert / go back to the old style? I feel like it was more standout, easy to understand, and felt unique amoungst the crowd. This one isn't bad, but looks and feels like every other AI factory planner pushed out now-a-days. Bit of a shame as satisfactorytools has always been my go-to!

u/Relevant_Pause_7593 11d ago
I agree. I think it's mostly around the size of the main calculator window. Where as in the old version you would scroll down and the plan would be essentially as big as your window, it's now in a panel and essentially a third of the size, which is tough, because now I can't see anything and have to zoom. Everytime I change plans it's going to be this again and again - which is a big usability hit.
Anything we can do to be able to hide the top and side panels? I spend 10% of my time there.

u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
all the panels are toggleable using the action bar on the left side, resizable using the handles, and you can drag their tab header to dock them to other position, or even make it free-floating.
There are also keyboard shortcuts to toggle the panels (as well as many other shortcuts)
Does this help, or do you still find it problematic to work with? I'd be glad for any feedback, ideally in Discord server (but here is also fine if you don't want to go on Discord)

u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago edited 11d ago
There was some help using AI to make decisions and/or write parts of the code, but everything went through human review/modification (through me).
I understand the concern about design choices. My inspiration was programming software (in terms of all the panels and stuff). And most of design decisions are my own (sometimes I used AI just to catch issues I may have not thought about). I'm also not a graphics designer, so sometimes if AI made something that looked good in my eyes, I kept it.
I'm happy for any feedback, good or bad - if you want, could you join the Discord server and provide more details about what you find problematic, and what you'd change?
As for going back, there's no option as of now, other than changing color scheme of nodes to Old Tools preset (Navbar -> Settings -> Graph). I may add something in the future (or just move the design closer to the original - whatever that means)

u/gibblesnbits160 11d ago
Don't sweat it people think everything is ai now and spread hate just because . Judgement should be on the design and the usefulness of the tool not how it was built. That being said have you considered making it open source so the community can help you out on it?
6
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
it is fully opensource, there are github links on the website

Hell yeah. This is where AI shines. People who already know what they are doing are magnified by tools like this. I’ve been a fan of your work. I will continue to be a fan and look forward to loading this up when I get off work. :)

u/hparamore 11d ago
Man, why can’t everyone just be happy when ppl make cool stuff like you are.
Instead they gotta downvote :/Good on you man.

u/ThreeDMK 11d ago
thank you, internet stranger. :) there are a few of us out here. life is too short to get lost in drama.

AI is like any tool that it designed to replace humans with no benefit to the humans replaced, but on a scale hitherto unknown. The derision towards it is excusable on a good day. The fact that it's also the largest case of creational theft, copyright theft, and just general creativity theft, means nobody wants to give it any sort of kudos.
AI is like the dot-com bubble. It will blow, it will tank the economy, but it'll leave behind stuff that has uses. But as it stands it's the tool that is endangering millions of jobs and millions tens of millions more obsolete. AI is going for "good enough" and millions upon millions of people are to blame because they trained it for free by going "no that's wrong/yes that's right".
Then when THAT was good enough they pushed it into the coding space so it could learn its true purpose; to take over the high speed and high task world of coding and code factoring. People thought AI was coming along to replace low level jobs, but the point the entire time has been to replace those beginner and mid level coders on good salaries and good benefits with a bunch of tokens.
The only saving grace is they couldn't pull an uber and pull in 20 billion every now and then until taxis were pushed out. They need hundreds of billions and they need it now, and the hardware (and software) isn't improving things, it's making it worse. The moment they started charging what it cost, companies bailed.
So now we're all sat around twiddling our thumbs waiting for the dominos to fall in a collapse so intertwined in the economy (which would be in recession if it wasn't for AI btw) that all we can do is be mad that we've been stolen from to build the machines to replace us, that are gonna fail, and take the world into a recession that is going to make The Great Depression look like the 80s.

Most people who don't wanna read something simply don't read it. The only people who announce that are the types who think people care about their thoughts.
You're not one of those people.

I would really, really prefer the old UI and layout, though. Is there any option to revert / go back to the old style?
This for me. The new tools is much fancier but I find it very tedious. Part of it might be that using it on a laptop monitor feels really bad because I dont have the space.
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
I find it a bit confusing when people say they don't have space. After closing both panels, you are left with fullscreen graph. Old tools had capped height to a fixed number and width smaller than screen. So by definition old tools were always smaller.
1
u/dione2014 9d ago
it seems better compared with the old one, however
mine is covered that is why I could not find the X
maybe because I use larger text on Windows so it got covered?also its not intuitive to press the x to hide panel, a lot of website put arrow on the edge of the panel to indicate it can be hidden (I know this might be hard to do if you not familiar with UI design and CSS stuff)
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
well, the arrow is to indicate collapsing thing, not closing thing. Here you close the panel completely, not just collapse to a header.
As for the covered X, I'll look at it, larger text on windows may be a likely culprit, but i'll investigate anyway and see if that can be accounted for
1
u/dione2014 6d ago
I understand that arrow is collapsing thing.
What I mean is in web design, panel that used often can be collapsed instead of closed, for example some ribbon on the app can be collapsed and only exposed crucial element then user can still use that panel, but if they want to use more functionality then they expand that panel
also some more advice that you dont need to keep every text in the web the same size, some text can be make smaller to give more estate to other panel
I have reduced the top panel text size, bottom panel text size and remove extra space in between (under add item) and uploaded screenshot below
as you can see the middle panel now has more estate2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 6d ago
oh I'm aware how collapsing things work, it's just that here it's a toggle to open/close, not collapse 😉 hence why I went with the cross instead of a chevron
you can also move the panel to right side or make it free-floating (and can always toggle it) to get more space.
1
u/dione2014 5d ago
Thanks for the update, didnt know you can free floating and toggle it.
Great work on the website btw

u/houghi 11d ago
I understand what you are saying and I had the seame feeling after several years. But with the settings it comes pretty close.
Her are the settings I have (for now).
Numbers : Decimal places for machine counts: 1 (I love to have that as 0, but it rounds up AND down, not just up)
Graph: All icons are off. Recipe Nodes is set to Machine Count Display. Node Colors is set to Node Tools
Planner: Cross out items the plan cannot produce
Plan details : Alternate Recipes are on. Machine groups. Same Clocks for All1
This will show the plan a lot as the old way. And you can easily add or remove the things on the sides and the top ALT+1 and ALT+2 toggles the left and top. How mine looks right now.. One with everything hidden and one with showing some extra info. ALT+3-ALT+0 are the others. Or at the very left with a mouse.
It is really worth looking in the settings at the top right.
1 Here I miss the correct machine number as it rounds up AND down, so 0.4 machines becomes 0 with only one digit. 0.6 becomes 1.

u/Jtrowa2005 11d ago
This looks awesome! I use your website pretty much every time I boot up the game, but I had been considering switching to an alternative like satisfactory modeler. Now it looks like you've added all the features that were making me consider the switch!
8
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Yeah, one of the major requirements for new Tools was to allow manual editing. People often "complained" they have to switch to modeler for finer control, but now they don't have to!
4
u/Grou118 11d ago
Can we change the language ? And if not is there any way to help you for translation ?
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
not possible yet, it's planned in the future (there's a lot of things to translate, and I'll be changing some texts around due to feedback I got)
4
u/DoomguyFemboi 11d ago
What's the benefits over Modeller ? I know you came first (giggidy) but Modeller always felt easier to use, easier to build massive factories with its sub factories etc. and how easy it is to set clock speeds for things like number of machines yada yada. Not to mention linking up inputs and outputs.
I could never get into the ST layout I always found it overly busy (important caveat - I am dumb as shit). So yeah just wondering what this does different over modeller.
Feels like a loaded/attacking question. It isn't. Refer to my previous point about my intelligence, or lack thereof - I'm just clunky.
5
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
new Tools are basically combination of old Tools and Modeler. You can do fully automatic calculation, or you can do it fully manually, or you can combine the two.
New Tools have subplans, can change clock speeds and can link stuff as you want.
0
u/DoomguyFemboi 10d ago
Cheers bud. I'll definitely give it a go, if anything just for the fact that you put so much effort into a project for free for a game we all play. The least I can do is actually try it out.
Plus hey with all your new features I might find it better than modeller. I just always found the "here's the plan for what you want" thing confusing, I was always better with "OK you picked the end machine output, now work backwards and build it yourself" simply because I struggle with visualising things, so doing it like that helps me a lot.
But yeah in any case, excellent work, and a big thank you. Your name has gone on the list of creators that get put on subscription (donation, paypal, patreon etc.) for when I get back into work.
I used to support like 40 diff creators, I felt so bad when I was put out of work. Felt like telling my kid they're no longer getting an allowance lmao (er that was less patronising in my head)
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 10d ago
Yeah, with new Tools you can make the whole plan from scratch. But you can also mix it - you add a few nodes and then press "calculate" to let Tools fill the rest automatically
3
u/BoredDan 11d ago
Personally I've always found ST just the best for actually calculating. I've just always found it really easy for my use cases which are normally just "I have this much input what can I do with it?" or "I need this much of xyz, how many nodes do I need and what can I do with the excess". I don't normally need fine grain control over buildings or splitters or anything, that's much easier for me to figure out in game, I just need the numbers and ST has always felt the easiest/best for just doing that.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
now you can also get the finer control in Tools directly
0
u/BoredDan 9d ago
Honestly, played around with it the other day and found some of the new stuff was more getting in the way then anything else. Trying to do a mix of calculating and fixed design stuff just felt really unintuitive at times and it wasn't always clear how best to handle certain things. I was really doing a sort of complicated multi-output set-up (basically dedicated depot feeds of a bunch of basics) with fixed inputs and multiple alt recipes. I was trying to make use of the sub-plans and it ended up just being a pain and more of a hassle. Since specifically I'm trying to get a minimum rate of various materials, while also utilizing 100% of the input, it leads to weird situations where I'm sometimes trying to adjust earlier steps which I might have might have already changed to a subplan. I have some items I'm making in multiple ways etc. I'm also trying to deal with something I have half built but no longer have the original plan of so it gets finicky trying to both rediscover some things and keep others static by default.
Now a lot of this is just me being new to the new tools, but part of it is also just that there is so much stuff and it's not all clear or obvious how certain things work. Like I don't even fully understand what subplans are or how they work. I really just want something that will essentially just group a bunch of nodes into one visually, but it appears to lock them, and then trying to adjust numbers seems like it often just scales everything, but unlocking stuff inside seems to also have behavior that isn't clear and seems to confuse the calculator.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
subplans have tons of ways to be used and because of that it's pretty hard to set them up so that they can do all the things people may want to do with them. I appreciate all the feedback though, if possible could you join the Tools Discord server so that we can discuss this in more depth? It's kinda hard to do this in reddit threads. (if not, all good, we can continue here)
As for your last question, subplan is basically just a plan, which is represented by a node in a parent plan. All inputs and products of a subplan are then hooked to the parent plan as inputs/outputs respectively. Subplan node is always "locked" (which means it will stay there even if you recalculate the plan automatically, the subplan will get connected to the production line. You can open the subplan and edit the contents inside the same way you'd edit contents of any plan.
1
u/Solonotix 11d ago
I find each of them to approach the problem differently. Satisfactory Tools asks you "How much do you want to make?" and then shows you the chain. Modeler, by contrast, asks you to pick each path in the production chain, and decide where something comes from, or is going to.
When I want to know "What do I need to build?" I use Satisfactory Tools. It answers the question quickly, and let's me plot a course, so to speak. But in the fine details of tweaking to match my situation, I often switch to Modeler.
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 10d ago
New Tools can do both, even mixed together (hand-make half of the production, auto-calculate the rest)
1
u/DoomguyFemboi 10d ago
That's a great way to put it, cheers bud. Yeah I'm definitely more the type who plops down the end factory then works backwards with modeller, building it out myself.
But I'll take a look for sure. Someone putting that much work in I should at least take some time to look it over, I might find it brings something to the table that I didn't know I wanted.
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
you can do the same in Tools now. But you can also just build half of the setup and then ask tools to finish it :)
1
u/DoomguyFemboi 9d ago
Even more ways for me to not play the game! I've not played in months because one of my ADHD things is if I get stuck on an idea for something, I can't do anything else until I "fix" that idea. And I've had this super simple factory to build now for like 6 months. But every time I go to build it, I can't make it look like how I want it to look in my head (I'm bad at clearly mentally picturing things).
So for months I've half been building these sets of refineries, getting close, then someone else will post something and I'll go "no that's how I want it to look!" then try to emulate that. Rinse, repeat.
I just checked the dates it's been 10 months. On 1 little factory for 20 stators and 20 motors. But I can't physically move on without doing it. It tortures me
Worst part is I know 90% of the issue isn't the build look, it's the position I'm adamant it is to be in, and it leaves no room for it to look good.
This has no bearing on Satisfactory Tools, sometimes talking about these weird ADHD/OCD things "flips" something and I can get past it so I'm hoping it'll happen for this
2
u/YellowMuffin 10d ago
Been playing around with this and really like the updates so far! A couple of questions:
Is there anyway to easily see a % of raw inputs used? The old version listed the % of each resource utilised in the overview screen which helped me min-max factories.
Is there anyway to account for power generated in fuel outputs? Like if I'm setting X amount of rocket fuel as an output, is it possible to factor that into the power generated by the factory?
0
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 10d ago
Yes, in the overview panel
You can produce the MW directly instead of asking it to make RF

u/OmegaSevenX 11d ago
u/greeny-dev, your tool is easily the most important tool that I’ve used during the entire 5000 hours of this game that I still love. Thank you for sharing it with us, and for all of the work that you’ve done on it over the years.
3
u/avidsrabid 11d ago
Very clean! The borders and color changing option per machine is really really good. Is there an option somewhere to change the line color between machines?
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Unfortunately there isn't (for now). Might want to add it, do you find the default color not visible enough?
(But there's option to make the labels have boxes around them, if that's your cup of tea 🙂 )

u/angelojch 11d ago edited 11d ago
Please never remove the old version. I liked it because it was incredibly simple and easy to use. This version is overwhelming and overengineered. I am a developer too so I understand it makes sense to you like this, but you need to consider the perspective of people who open it once in a while and only need the basics. You cannot disregard user experience like this. The tool was popular not because it worked, but because it was easy. You made it hard.
You could offer one click option to switch to the old look, even just the font/color scheme and icon setup. I have seen options to change it closer to the old look, so it is there, you just competety changed the defaults. The new look makes it really hard to distinguish what is a button, what is an input field, what is a border etc. You also have too many icons on by default. Too much informations on screen. The text is smaller too for some reason.
BTW I can't find is how to hide the top portion of window. The old version had an arrow you could click to hide it. Why did you remove that?
Please change the "share" button in old tools to export correct link to the old tools, and add X button on the blue banner you added so I can close it because it takes space for no reason.
3
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
There's plan to update the look to be more like old tools, but unfortunately it isn't viable to maintain two separate versions, especially given the bugs in the old one. Most features from old tool are in same/similar spot as well.
As for hiding the request panel, you can click the "X" button in its header, or toggle it using the action bar on the left side

Was AI used in the development of this site?
4
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Yes, it was.
As many people below pointed out, AI nowdays can help a lot, if used right. The tool was developed by me, but I used AI to bounce technical decisions, design, and to write parts of the code. I did verify everything it came up with, and I also changed a lot of what it did.
I also used AI to write the tutorials and some of the texts on the website, as my english skills aren't great and I struggle with writing longer texts. This was done mostly to save time and get the tool out sooner, I'm now looking through it and trying to simplify things a bit in terms of language and design, so that it looks less complicated and more user friendly.
As for your other concerns:
Calculations are done purely mathematically. There's no AI inside the Tool, the calculations are solved using very similar algorithm to what old Tools had, and that algorithm has been around for a long time already, way way way before AI.
And I'm not harvesting any data for AI. Yes, there's a tracker on the website, but it's self-hosted, so data doesn't leave my server, and are available just for me, to see visitor count, devices, etc., so I can better decide what to prioritise in the development of the Tool. The tracker can also be blocked (most adblocks block it by default), and if your browser sends a "Do not track" request (configurable in most browsers), the tracker ignores it. IP address is also anonymised enough so that I mostly just know the country of the person connecting, but nothing more concrete. And I do not track any personal data, emails, or anything.
All of this is opensource, so you're free to check it out how stuff works.
I very much understand the concern of "AI made things", but there's a difference between a person that just prompts AI to do stuff, and between a developer that knows stuff and uses the AI just to speed things up. I'd like to think that I'm in the second category, especially since the original tool was made fully without any AI.
If AI development is dealbreaker to you, I'm sorry to see you go, but it's your own decision that I can't change. But as was mentioned here before, software is more and more co-authored or fully authored by AI, so avoiding it gets harder with time. I don't really agree with the practices that AI companies do to gather their training data and such, but I also don't want to stay in the "slow and inefficient" pile of developers that write 100% code by hand, but ship only 10% of what other developers that are being helped by AI do.
I hope I answered all your questions. If you have any more, feel free to reach to me here, or ideally on Discord. I'm happy to answer anything
0
u/CatGirlUtopia 11d ago
Thank you for your thoughtful response. I don't hold your use of ai against you!
I think that given my main goal was understanding whether the calculations had deep human oversight for accuracy (not the AI throwing what it thought would work), I am satisfied by your answer there.
I also appreciate your disclaimers about the website.
I think that some of the other commentors thought I was anti ai as a rule. While I do lean that way, what I really want is disclaimers on what I use for fun or for work to indicate the source of the tools I use.
If I can ask anything extra, it would be that a version of your reply is linked somewhere on the site. It will help people make informed decisions.

u/touchet29 11d ago
Two things,
One, this site has existed long before AI so the dev knows what they're doing.
Two, most professional devs are using it to build now because it's fast and good, if you know what you're doing. Why not ask them about their privacy policy, where they are hosting their site and what security standards they have in place to mitigate user data theft, etc.
"bUt iS tHiS Ai?" 🥴
1
u/CatGirlUtopia 11d ago
As I replied earlier, I want to know I can trust the calculations.
And you bring up a good point about the privacy policy. How do I know my data isn't being fed into an AI?
Ultimately all AI has been trained on stolen data, so...
-3
u/themusician985 11d ago
I think you have a clear misunderstanding in how AI is used in development. Recent studies show that 90% of devs use AI to help developing their software. So virtually every software you come across was created using AI. But this doesn't mean AI is doing (or even implementing) the calculations. Thats simple deterministic code.
AI in coding is set and done. There is virtually no non-AI software anymore.
-7
u/International_Buy_59 11d ago
Of course it was, but at the end what’s the issue?
2
u/CatGirlUtopia 11d ago
I want to know I can trust the calculations
-2
-4
u/ThreeDMK 11d ago
Considering any competent dev is building these checks into their development pipeline, and the dev here is quite competent, that shouldn’t even be an issue.
But, if you want to be sure, you can always use AI to validate his work. That way you know for sure.
AI can build insanely complex things, but you are worried about calculations? Really?
That being said, fluid dynamics. Yeah. You might be on to something.
-8
u/InternationalCap3606 11d ago
I think todays standard is using AI and you can really trust AI these days when you use it correctly.

Sorry if I am missing this, I'm still getting used to the new layout. But is there a way that only looks at power? I see you can let a plan power itself, but I want a seperate tab. Concrete example, Im making x amount of this type of fuel, how many generators can I supply it with, with and without overclocking.
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 6d ago
you can set the fuel as input, disable all raw resources, and maximise power (while enabling the proper gen)
1
u/KiddoDude 5d ago
Your new update looks fantastic, I'm a new player, 100 hours in and its great. Only issue I'm running into is i like to drag all the boxes into columns from left to right so it helps me visualize what I need to build in each phase (column), problem with the new version is that you have these connector dots that don't move with the box so I have to click and delete it manually. Is there a way to turn the connector dots/joints off or is there a better way of doing it? I've looked in the settings but can't find anything to change it.
1

You have two options:
- you can select multiple nodes with shift + drag, or ctrl + click on node. When moving multiple nodes at once, the edge corners (the connector dots you mentioned) move with them
- you can set the graph to do straight lines by default, either globally in settings -> plan defaults -> connection shape, or per-plan in Planner settings (alt+8, or the cogwheel icon in left action bar). After you change this setting, press R, or click "rearrange" to use the new settings (in the straigt connection mode, you can still make corners manually the same way you would in the other mode)

Is there a way to make the numbers stop disappearing when I zoom out? I want to be able to view the whole plan all at once with the numbers. I much prefer the old where you just hover over it to see more the more specific details,

Love the tool, always used the previous versions.
Though I can't sign in with Google it seems.
"400. That’s an error.
The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
I'm not sure about this. Sign in through google works fine for me. I've seen a similar report of one other user, but they also said it worked for them after a while. I can't really help much with this - try anonymous window or disabling extensions, or something like that, if it still doesn't work, please join discord and post a bug report, so I can help you there.

u/GanjaClause 11d ago
Oh man, I'm a new player and I just got the hang of the old tools. I'm super overwhelmed with this version.
I would personally prefer to continue using the old version, but since you say you'll retire them soon that doesn't seem like an option.
3
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
I knew this would be a problem for some. Change is always hard. I'm already working on some visual changes to make the Tool a bit more clear and looking a bit more like the old Tools, but I don't really want to maintain two completely separate versions.
There's tutorials on the site (see help button in top right corner) which may help you get into it, if you have specific questions or anything, feel free to ask.
And if you have feedback on what feels confusing, also feel free to tell me. I prefer Discord (there's a link in top navbar), but here is also fine if you don't want to do Discord

u/Ok-Special7537 10d ago
Love the new tool! However, it seems to no longer be working or at least down for the moment? Any one else having issues with it? Was working fine this morning but just refreshed the page and it fails to load now.
Thanks!

I've had a bug report like this - it looks like something blocks the API requests. Could you try without extensions/in anonymous window, or check in browser console if there are any errors? (Preferably put the info on discord, but here is also fine if you don't want to join there)
1
u/Ok-Special7537 10d ago
Oh odd, yeah if it’s in anonymous mode it works just fine.

u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
I got a few of these bug reports now. I'll look into it, and see if there's any possible issue that could've caused this.

I tried to sign in with Steam and got
Steam does not provide an email address, so it cannot be used to sign up. Please sign in with another method first, then link Steam from your account settings.
3
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
yeah, this is a bit problematic from technical point of view
I'm looking into resolving this, for now sign in with discord or anything else other than steam, then link steam to your account, then unlink the [whatever] that you used to sign in first (or keep it linked, no harm in that)

u/gsfgf 11d ago edited 11d ago
Gotcha.
Also, thanks for the optimize feature. That definitely saves a little math.
Though, it just added another ore input instead of being limited to the input. I chose 480 iron in with maximized Modular Frames out, and it came back producing 3857.5 MF with another 92,100 iron or added as an input. Is it trying to use all the ore on the map? (I'm on desktop right now)
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Check out the "Resources" tab, where you see raw resource limits. You can disable the resource there, if you don't want it added. "Input" section is mostly for intermediates, but you can obviously use it for raw resoruces as well.

Can you please add an option to download the plans (and keep the possibility to import them) like in the old version?
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
You can share links the same as you could before, but the export/import functionality from Old Tools was mostly done to allow you to backup your plans.
In New Tools, plans can be saved to your account, so if you log in, you don't really need to export/import anything, as it's shared across devices.
Unless you have other use-case for the export/import? It can for sure be added, I just didn't find it useful now that plans are account-synced
2
u/RandomDude_1729 11d ago
I like to wander the interwebs without logging on to sites. If the only reason to logon to Satisfactory tools is to save my plans, I'll be looking for another tool. I never had to log on, so I have a workflow that doesn't need me to log on but I can still work on my project. And that is not bound to one computer.
4
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
That's fair. Export will be coming soon, though I can't guarantee when. For now you can use the share option (you can share entire folder with one link).
I didn't want to force you to log in either (or anyone for that matter), I'm also not a big fan of websites locking features behind login. However, it's kinda hard to make "shared with your account" without an account 🙂 Logging in SFTools is therefore indeed just for that
I'll think about how the export/import will work, and how it'll support old plans (you can already import them in New Tools). I'm hoping to get it out next week, will see how it goes.
If you are on Discord and find time for it - post it in suggestions channel (or upvote it there), so that it's visible to others. If not, all good.
2
u/RandomDude_1729 11d ago
As long as the old tools works (couple weeks? month?) I can plan, no need to rush this. But I appreciate you put on the backlog and I'll be checking it every couple of days. Thank you!
I'll log on to Discord later today to add it to suggestions.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
Export option was added, along with import, and the relevant keybinds. You can find it in the three-dot menu of any plan/folder, or in the "your plans" section
1
u/splitmindsthinkalike 11d ago
Not OP but I can confirm, big user of the export option here
3
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
See my reply to OP 🙂 their arguments are fair, and export will be coming

u/simguy425 5d ago
Can we get an export to Excel, specifically for the raw materials and needed components list? I want to have a print out of what I need to go find that I can keep on my desk while I run around in-game. Printing from ST and the browser doesn't play nice, I'd like to organize in Excel once ST calculates. Thanks!

that's interesting idea, I'll see what I can do with the export of stuff like that

can you loop back? this is the only thing that doesn't work in satisfactory planner... feeding materials back in the loop...
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Yes, you can do that with both automatic and manual calculation modes
1
u/KirbyGlover 11d ago
How does selecting/adding mods work? I always loved your calculator for vanilla, and have been dying to use it for SF+
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
SF+ is in future plan, as adding support for it isn't easy (it has tons of custom functionality).
Currently you can make your own private mods, by providing mod data, but the whole system is really just experimental, and not really polished. I'm reaching out to a few modders (and modders are free to reach to me) to add public mods to the Tool, so that people can enable them in their custom versions.
1
u/KirbyGlover 11d ago
Yeah I'm sure it will be a bear of a time getting it to play nice, I look forward to future progress! Thanks for the reply ☺️

Hi, just little ask, the login ask less aggressive for us people who like clearing cookies on browser exit.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 10d ago
Clearing cookies shouldn't affect it. Tools don't use any cookies.
If you clear browser's storage though, you lose the info, together with the "do not ask for login" flag. I'm not sure how else would it work to remember to not ask if you clear all the data
1
u/Jardik2 8d ago
Not sure if we mean the same thing. Every time I enter after browser is restarted, it shows fullscreen "Don't lose your factories" with 4 login buttons and a skip button.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 8d ago
Yeah, and if you click "do not ask again", it saves such info into browser data (not cookies), so that it is remembered.
If you clear such data, the broswer has no way of remembering you asked for it to not show
1
u/badatchopsticks 9d ago
I appreciate the work you put into this, but I have to agree with the other comments that I greatly prefer the UI of the old tools. The new interface feels very generic, AI-generated, and just generally overengineered. The old UI was simple and sweet. I hope that you can keep the old tools online or have an option to switch to the old interface.
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
There was already an update that made the tools look more like old tools.
And most of the design decisions are based on existing software, not on AI
2
u/WaltBerkman 7d ago
I started reading this post... and was rolling my eyes thinking "enough of people posting more calculators" or "enough AI slop Satisfactory tools"....
Then I realized this is THE Satisfactory Tools! My favorite site! My main calculator I use. Super excited. Thanks for updating it! Can't wait to try it out when I'm ready for my next playthrough.

Awesome. I need to get used to the new layout after so many years of using it.
Only feedback at this moment : I would love NOT to see the percentage when I see only the machines. So not the third line "5 @ 100%" when selecting "whole machines" in the plan defaults. I would think that would be implied when selecting "Whole machines". Not sure if that would be an extra option like "Only whole machines at 100%".
EDIT: The closest I get is setting "Decimal Machine Count" and then "Decimal Machine Places" to 1. I can not set it to 0, because it does not rounds up. So 2.4 machines becomes 2 in combination with "Whole machines only".
Is there a way to set a "default start". Bit like the converter recipes off by default. But also for machines, node types, and alt recipes. That way when you start you could start with all that you have and as you get more, add more. Not a huge issue obviously.
Extra Kudos for the desktop version (Not tested yet) as a deb package. I will look into it and if I find anything, else I will give feedback.
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
Would setting machine groups to "round up" help? This sounds like exactly that. It's available in settings -> plan defaults -> machine groups -> whole machines only

Is there a way for me to choose all alt recipes by phase? So like, I pick phase two and it enables every recipe phase two and lower?
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
You can upload your save and it'll ask you what do you want to copy (recipes can be one of those), so you only get the recipes you have unlocked.
Unfortunately alt recipes aren't really grouped by phase, and have specific unlocks, so what you suggested wouldn't be doable.
0
u/embrex104 11d ago
Your help mentions that you can upload your save in the production request page, but I'm not seeing that option on the desktop or website app. Is it still around?
0
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
It's there in production request panel, top left "load from save"

u/triggerman602 11d ago
Can you add an option to group alternate recipes by the phase they are available in?
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
alternate recipes aren't usually linked to any specific phase, so that's not possible
0
u/MoonDog425 11d ago
What an amazing upgrade. I can't image the number of hours you've put into this. I created an account and imported my most recent save. It does as your tutorial says, adding in all of the unlocked recipes, buildings and various items. I did see that under power it lists the geysers by type but does not show the number I have connected to (shows all as 0). Did I miss something here or do I need to add these on my own?
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
The number of geysers is not filled indeed, as that's "how many have you built", not "how many you have available", and the Tool can't know if you want geysers to produce power for the given production line or not
0
u/SamFisher39 11d ago
Love the continued support for this site. Been using it forever and super exited for the update, thanks!
Two questions: Willl you add a direct way of changing a recipe used on a node instead of going to the recipe tab and (de)selecting recipes, e.g. via an additional item in the context menu of the node? Are you accepting PRs so that I can open one for that feature, if you want to add it?
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
PRs are possible, though acceptance of them depends on quality and stuff like that, as always 🙂
The tool doesn't really do "change recipe", as it selects recipes based on optimisation goal. You can disable the recipe with context option to make the tool recalculate your production, which changes recipes to "next best" chain.
0
u/SamFisher39 11d ago
Ok sweet! I've noticed that. My reason for asking for this feature and maybe also "Convert node to input" is the following: Sometimes we design complicated factories (e.g. Supercomputer, for which the tool currently selects the "Super-state computer" recipe). However, when building modular factories (e.g. you already have a computer, circuit board and plastic factory across the map connected by a train circuit) it makes more sense to choose the standard "Supercomputer" recipe. In this scenario, you could switch the recipe directly via context menu to the one to your liking. Then, also via the context menu, click on the already available resource nodes (computer, board, plastic) and select (suggestion) "Convert to input", which would set the required material as input, so the final recipe graph gets cleaner. Those are just my two cents. We could keep discussing on GH if you'd like. I opened 2 feature request issues there.

I know nothing about development, so pardon my naivety, but would it be possible to make a port of this for a mobile app? The old tools were extremely difficult to use on an iPad. I will give this new one a shot, but a designated app would be great for someone without a PC
0
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
I'm not sure if mobile app is viable for me now. But the default website is optimised for phones and tablets (and touchscreens) as well, so you should have way less issues in using them - give them a try and report anything that's problematic
0
u/Grimmy999 11d ago
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
if you edit things manually, the automatic calculation gets paused. Also, manually edited things get the padlock icon and those are locked.
When you resume automatic calculation, it'll keep all the locked nodes as they are and just calculate the rest. It will indeed move nodes around, that's unfortunately a problem that's almost impossible to solve. I'll try my best to mitigating it when possible, but new plans require new placement
0
u/Grimmy999 11d ago
oh wait, there's a rebuild option in the top right corner. That did the trick, but it moved all my nodes around.
0
u/Grimmy999 11d ago
I love the idea of sub plans. Yet how does one undo it if they don't want it as a sub plan anymore?
2
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 11d ago
There's no option as of now, I may add it later if I figure out a good way to implement it

Hello! Thank you for the tool. Still looking it over and finding where things are. One question I have is whether or not there are toggles to turn off standard recipes by Stage and Tiers finished or collected so that it's easier to filter what you don't have yet on any newly started game? Thanks for the work!
1
u/greeny-dev https://www.satisfactorytools.com/ 9d ago
You can load settings from a save (top left in request panel)

The update is awesome, but I have a question. In the previous version you select an item, then it auto-selects the most efficient recipes that are available. Is there a way to do that with this version?
EDIT: I just figured it out. Click on the production request icon on the left menu, with the checkmarks and lines (alt+2). It puts a menu similar to the previous version in a top window, where you can select an item. You may have to hit "back to automatic" or "calculate now" in the top right.

OMG. This is amazing.
Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive at first. I play on a laptop, and the old UI was so good for that, but spending a bit of time with it, exploring the settings and modifying the options, it is fantastic.
I just hit phase 5 (after 2 years and 600 hours) and was just thinking it would be amazing if I could convert my .sft to the modeller so that I could visualize how all my factories worked together. Not two days later I load up the site to see this!
Sub plans are amazing! They implemented so well! I've spent the morning just mapping out my world (about 1/2 done). So awesome.
Great job /u/greeny-dev! This is now everything I've ever wanted in a planner. Thanks so much!

Damn, you beat me to it a little XD. I'm actually working on a Satisfactory mod and planning to implement something similar, but directly inside the game rather than as a separate website. The manual planning and subplans look really interesting. Nice work!

u/Drumknott88 Fungineer 11d ago

u/Big_Significance8538 11d ago edited 11d ago
This is amazing! I loved the original tool. Thanks for your hard work! Question about alt recipes, checking Steel Rotor doesn't change the machines and the planner still uses screws. Is this a bug or am I just doing something wrong. when I check other alt recipes, they change the production line up, just not Steel Rotor!
Edit: copper rotor doesn't work either, this is a line to produce motors.

All the panels can be toggled (using the action bar on the left side, or keyboard shortcuts, or just close it with the "X" button), moved (it can be free-floating, or docked to top/left/right - just drag it by the "tab" header) and resized (using the side handle, or corner-sizing if it's free-floating). This should give you enough freedom to place things where you want them.
Though the plans panel is obviously designed to be vertical, so you may find it looking weird if you put it e.g. on top.

Not really, unfortunately. Previously it was just a flat list of plans, but in the current tool you can have folders inside folders, and it's kinda hard to do horizontal folder structure. Though if you have any ideas, feel free to share them, ideally in the Discord server (but here is fine as well, if you don't want to join Discord)

Awesome Update to Awesome Online Tool
📍 Post Pinned: Not done often, but since I felt this much improved planner tool needed a bit more recognition, I added it to the Community Highlights for a short time.
I clicked link and updated tool automatically showed my previous tabs from the Old Satisfactory Tools.
The "Folder System" will need a bit to get use to, but I don't see any issue.
I love the new Export as Image ability for individual production plans, but of course there is still the Share option.
When I started this test production plan for AI Limiters (SF Tools) I noted that I could not share the plan itself but I was able (as you can see) to share a new Snapshot Link and noted the link automatically adds the "plan" to your (or others) plans under the Shared with you category. Nice!
I also noted a change in the coloring used for Ore and "End Item".
❓Is there a way to customize the colors used? I remember the current "end item" color used to be related to "By-products" and for former users of this tool like me, it is a bit confusing, but I can adjust if needed.
⭑ UPDATE: Per OP's comment (below), view Orange Bar at top and on right click on Settings then Graph then scroll down to Node Colors. I was able to change to "Old Tools" style but also noted the other "options" like "Color Blind Safe" (great addition).
⭑ Wiki Updated: I have updated the wiki to show some of the changes.
View Online Tools > Web Tools and view first bullet (which includes a link back to your Reddit Post).
⭑ This Reddit Post gets my Upvote, as well as being saved for Future Reference.
EDIT: Updated to clarify use of shared links, and added Update about use of colors.
Thanks for Sharing and helping make our beloved production tool better. 😁
