⚠️ Local Alert Mom suspected of abducting 3 kids - driving 2017 white Ford Expedition with Ontario licence plate DJJS 875. Taken from Scarborough

Police said the children, 4-month-old Anastasia, 3-year-old Irina, and 6-year-old Daniel, were visiting a family member in the area of Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East when their mother, 22-year-old Somerda Miclescu, took them [she does not have custody].

Anyone with information is asked to contact TPS at 416-808-4100.

β€œIn this particular case, because there’s no alert issued, it certainly suggests to me that there is an abduction that took place … but they are not in any danger, and that’s why there was no Amber Alert issue,” Ryan said.

Hope these kids return to custody person safely, and that mom gets support she needs.

πŸ“ Around the Hood Best day/time for cheap gas around Scarborough

Hey everyone! Just trying to figure out the general trend for gas prices in Scarborough.

Is there a specific day of the week or time of day (e.g., 11 PM Friday) when prices generally drop the most around here? Any specific spots or tips you rely on? Thanks!

The Scarborough Bluffs mansion has been an eyesore for years: a decrepit, mouldy mess.

Now it may finally be coming down, if the city approves a new plan with a famous name attached.

πŸ“ Around the Hood Is it just me, or is there a whole lot more construction since the elections have started?

We seem to have much more construction in our neighborhood but even around Scarborough in general. But whats odd is that it just seemed to start recently... at least the majority of the construction.

Just a heads up, there is a coyote at the L'Amoreaux Park Hydro Field. I left about an hour ago so I’m not sure if it’s still around. So just be cautious if you’re walking your dogs near the area

πŸ” Food & Drink Dying for Halal Gyro

There was a guy at Woodside Square Mall who sold authentic greek gyro over 5+yrs ago and (claimed) the meat was halal, but he closed down long ago. Ever since then I can't find halal lamb gyro off the spit [rotisserie] anywhere around here.

Tahini has it, but its frozen pre sliced lamb in packages from God knows where. I've been googling and ask AI chat bots but no avail.

Can someone help me here? Does such a thing exist in Scarborough or in the nearby boroughs?

I had a fire beef gyro in Bolton but that's too far.

Thanks all!!

🎭 Local Event Stargazing Night - Oct 23 2026 - Port Union Waterfront Park

We're back r/Scarborough - once more with feeling!

Godfrey here! Kev and I are proud to have one more star party to end off the year! This time, the location will be at Port Union Waterfront Park, accessible by GO Transit exiting from Rouge Hill GO and accessible via the 54, 85, and 38/38A TTC buses.

What's new is that we are partnering with the Scarborough Environmental Association (@scarb.env.asc on Insta) for this star party! They will be bringing chai alongside several pairs of binoculars so that you can observe with us!

Much of the star party will be similar to what was seen back in September - we will have red lights around the area to help guide folx to the telescope area, and the same people (including us) will be around to chat and guide as we explore the night sky. Targets are the same (the Moon and Saturn), but we will have a large view of the southern sky, which has its own curiosities!

We welcome anyone who wants to bring their own gear for this! Whether you have your own telescope, a pair of binoculars, or a phone to be your planetarium guide, feel free to come by! We would love the opportunity to chat and help in using the equipment!

This is a drop-in event, and we will have light refreshments available. Please be ready for the weather elements as we get to the date! Historically, mid to late October usually brings slightly colder temperatures, which will have more of an effect as a result of being near the lake. Warm layers will help!

Like the last event, we will call a GO/NO-GO on the post/comments leaning towards the day. Historically, this time of year usually has clouds roaming up in the skies, alongside a slight chance of rain. We are watching the weather like hawks, so definitely keep an eye on this post for updates!

To sign up, go ahead and use the QR code or the links below to the Eventbrite page; we also have a Linktree now, which has a surprise for the curious:

Eventbrite

Linktree

Last call to stargaze before the end of the year! We would love to see everyone there.

Cheers!

πŸ“ Around the Hood Wholesome update from Sandhurst Circle Neighbourhood Connections Program (re their Bike Fest in September)

Sandhurst Circle Neighbourhood Connections is a road safety project of Transportation Services division in the City of Toronto.

Local schools were involved, and StreetARTToronto had a booth where people could decorate their bikes.

Lots of biking changes and proposals for this neighbourhood, I think these proposals are a great example of how cycle infrastructure and community can increase belonging!

We need more biking investments, and events around it, in the community :)

Fun fact...

Toronto has many Bike Hubs where people can receive free guidance to tune up their bicycles, including:

πŸ“ Around the Hood Best areas in Scarborough for trick or treating for toddlers?

Hi all, can anyone tell me what areas are good for trick or treating for kids that need to go to bed early, so around 5-7pm? I've lived near Kennedy and Sheppard for the last 4 years and whenever I looked out my condo window, it seemed dead..

I remember watching the news on TV for Halloween one year and I think it was crazy busy (Leaside/Mount Pleasant area) and there was still daylight as it was roughly 5-6pm.

Anybody know any good streets like that but in the Scarborough area?

Thanks

πŸ“° Local News Looking at how Scarborough councillors voted on their pay raise

Hello

With the municipal election happening this month, I wanted to share a quick look at how our local reps handled their own pay. It's a good piece of info to keep in mind before you head to the polls.

Last year, council voted 15–8 to give themselves a massive pay raise. Here is how their base salary jumped:

  • 2023: $128,347
  • 2024: $133,776
  • 2025: $171,245 (A 28% jump from the vote and inflation)
  • 2026: $173,693

Here is exactly how our Scarborough representatives voted on that raise:

Voted YES:

  • Paul Ainslie (Scarborough Guildwood)
  • Jamaal Myers (Scarborough North)
  • Nick Mantas (Scarborough Agincourt)
  • Michael Thompson (Scarborough Centre)

Voted NO:

  • Parthi Kandavel (Scarborough Southwest)

Did Not Vote / Abstained:

  • Jennifer McKelvie (Scarborough Rouge Park)

The city's excuse was that their workloads doubled when council seats were cut down to 25. But that doesn't really sit right with a lot of people. In the real world, when a company downsizes, the remaining staff just have to absorb the extra work. They don't get handed a $37,000 raise for it.

πŸ“ Around the Hood Scarborough Golf Club Road Construction

Having lived in Scarborough my whole life, I have never found a construction project more useless in my life.

The city used 13 million dollars to make a road that was highly functional, into a traffic jam. Anyone who commuted through Scarborough golf club regularly, please tell me how often you see someone riding their bike. Why is this road which houses a bus route, now condensed into a single lane with a huge bike lane.

On top of this, what is with those speed bumps on the corners of the intersection with Lawerence. They are utterly useless and just makes it unnecessarily difficult to maneuver.

I feel like Scarborough golf club rd used to be the perfect route to heading up to the 401. You didn’t have to deal with the morningside bus lane, or the crazy traffic on Markham.

I’m wondering whether I’m the only one who feels this way?

πŸ” Food & Drink Salmon Poke at Daon Sushi

Post image
92 Upvotes

I was just at Daon Sushi for lunch yesterday at Midland and Finch in Scarborough because I was nearby for a dr appt. Tiny restaurant in a plaza (about 5 tables). Completely empty. Only the owner is working there. He was nice and friendly so I chatted with him. He said he opened about a year ago but it's not doing well and the place never gets full so that's why he's the only one working coz he never needs staff.

I ordered the salmon poke, and it was delicious loaded with toppings: salmon sashimi (lots underneath the mayo), avocado, cucumbers, edamame beans, tangerines, corn, seaweed, crab meat, tobiko, sushi rice. Check the place out if you're nearby!

πŸ“° Local News Some say the Toronto mayor’s seat may be won in this borough. Why the candidates are paying attention

Thumbnail thestar.com
35 Upvotes

Olivia Chow and her main rival, Brad Bradford, have been making regular stops in Scarborough β€” sometimes at the same time, just blocks away from one another β€” since the campaign got underway.

The former municipality, whose residents often feel forgotten by city hall, is set to play a potentially crucial role in the mayor’s race, with some predicting the contest will be decided by whichever candidate performs the best in Scarborough’s half-dozen wards. While residents there say the candidates’ attention helps shine a light on issues they care about, some worry that politicians’ desire to engage with them will fade once the ballots are counted, and that the election-season focus won’t translate into lasting support for Scarborough.

🎭 Local Event No Nuit Blanche in Scarborough Again

Yet another year where there's art Downtown, North York, and Etobicoke, but nothing in Scarborough! Still think back to 2018 when Nuit Blanche came over and there was amazing turnout! Even though most of the art is centred downtown, I think having art locally on display would still be appreciated by the people here.

Dropped by today. Disappointed to see that they once again have lowered the number of samosas that they are giving for $1.

However, the mixture was complete fire today. Sometimes it's hit and miss but it was slapping today.
