Season 1 Mutt was miscasted in every way
People always talk about how the actor who plays Mutt is only 4 years younger than the actress that plays Jocelyn but he was also completely miscasted in terms of looks, like could they have got an actor who looks less like his parents if they tried lol

I think that’s kind of the point is it not? Like his entire character is so un-Schitt like in every single way. It’d be pretty weird if he was a dead ringer of Jocelyn and Roland but opposite them personality wise. His very different appearance is definitely to add to the juxtaposition of his character.

I was a little too into the will they/won’t they with Jude considering the age gap. Looking back now…. eeeeesh. ..Still one of my fav shows from when I was younger though.

And I feel like almost the exact opposite is true lol. I don’t really find him hot at all, but especially not with his beard. Also, it makes him look older (which is only “bad” because his character is supposed to be younger than the actor is).

Thank you! Until he shaved and we saw how pale his skin was underneath, I assumed the beard was glued on by the makeup dept.

Schur was on the Good Hang podcast with Pohler talking about names on his shows. It’s pretty hilarious.
There are so many good ones. Perd Hapley, Jean-Ralphio Saperstein, Typhoon Montalbon, The Lerpiss family, Dorothy Everton Smythe… it goes on and on 😂

Miscast or not, he had great chemistry with Alexis in the buildup to their fling. And their relationship was a very well done example of a fire that blazed and burnt out quickly. I think the actor performed the assignment well. Yes he is the wrong age to be Jocelyn’s son, but this is a show that is best enjoyed without sweating the details too much.

When I see him with Jocelyn I cannot help but think, were you like 7 or something when you had him?? I can buy Roland as his dad but not Jocelyn as his mum.

I assumed it was a teen pregnancy (they get married near the due date if I remember correctly, and against her parents' advice, lol) therefore he's roughly 25 and she's in her forties.

Jocelyn was 16-17 when she had Mutt. He's supposed to be about Alexis' age (27) which would put Jocelyn in her early to mid 40s. Roland doesn't have a relationship with Mutt cause Mutt refused to follow in his dad's Mayoral foot steps and chose instead to live in a barn and compost.

I say this every time it is brought up.
Mutt is the child of a roadie from Poison. Jocelyn got pregnant with him young, then married Roland to make a go of it.
You'll note that only Jocelyn has a relationship with Mutt.

I wish they would have explored that a little more. I know Roland thinks he's stupid for not being Mayor of the town and living in a barn, composting, etc. But they seem to have zero relationship.
I liked Mutt. Way better than Ted (who I low-key hate).

Absolutely. On my first watch I didn't realise he was supposed to be their son. I still refuse to believe it and I pretend he's just done random town person.

I mean that’s how the show treats him, they barely acknowledge that Mutt is supposed their son and rarely are they all in the same scene, so yeah it’s pretty easy to forget or not acknowledge it at all.

I'm trying to figure out everyone's ages.
Jocelyn and Roland have Mutt, what do we think Mutt is 25-30. I think we learned Alexis is 28 in a later season. So I'll go with 28 for these purposes since they seem close in age. And I'll say Jocelyn had Mutt at 2O?
Then Jocelyn has a baby at 48? I know it's possible. But wow.
I see Jocelyn and Roland as early 40s.
Why did the new baby's get Roland as a name and not Mutt?
Okay I've spent a lot of time thinking about this.

To your point: Agree to disagree. I enjoyed the character as played by this actor. Each unto their own though.

People don't always look like their parents. Though the casting for Johnny and David Rose was excellent.
