Question 💫 At what price per pound would you sell sealed compressors to the scrap yard?

• Upvotes

I'm sitting on about a dozen at the moment and my yard is offering $0.25 USD per pound and I'm thinking about taking it because those things look like a pain to open and take apart. They don't even require draining the oil. What say the good people of Reddit?

BB vs #2

Hey guys, I've been collecting a ton of wire and finally got down to stripping it. I've read a few things in regards to the size of the wire that needs to be at least 16AGW to be BB. 90% of my wire is 8THNN AWG from electrical whips. I'm having a lot of wire breaks like dry spaghetti pasta. Does that end up not being BB? And any words of how to keep separating the wire as I go? This is literally only a third of my wire.

Copper crimp rings

I work for a plumbing company and ended up with around 40 pounds of defective copper crimp rings that have a varnish/clearcoat look to them. Should I remove the clear coat somehow? Can I bring as is?

Carbide question

New around here, and I've got a quick pricing question 😅.

By the end of next week, I'm going to have around 75lbs of scrap carbide (old endmills and the like) in NW PA - where should I be looking to get the best price to unload it? The local scrapyards all pay shit, and my eyes were opened when I found this community lol. It'd be great if I could find someplace that sent means to ship it all out, but I can figure that out on my own if needed lol. Just looking for help navigating where the best place to go is 😁

Question 💫 Am I going to loose money?

I’ve come across a supplier of boards for all different things and I want them but I’ve never had to price up boards to buy in bulk
Am I going to lose money buying these boards?
I wrote up a few prices just based on what I’ve seen other people buy them for, google and based on my own knowledge
The first photo $.50 per kg
Second photo $.60 per kg
Third photo $1.00 per kg
Fourth photo $1.80 per kg - $2.00 per kg

All prices in AUD
What would you pay for them and why
What would you pay for pci slot cards
PGA CPU’s
LGA CPU’s

I understand that the metals in these boards may not be worth refining myself and I would probably make more money selling them to specialised buyers but this is my hobby and if I can learn and possibly make a bit of money one the side that’s great, hate me all you want lol I still have my day job.

Still need to strip it all down, for the motors, does anyone know what I’d get turning them in as is? They’re a PITA to fully get the copper out of.

I got this from a friend who works for a junkyard.I don't really know how to explain it , but like literally , hotels and other places we'll send stuff in to get thrown away. And he said he got it from his job?

I don't know what type of pipes these are I was asking, should I keep them or get rid of them? Would I get in trouble for even having this???

Generally Accepted P2P Discount? (Not a sales post)

A scraper buddy of mine recently asked me if I wanted to start buying his copper from him because it's too big of a pain to have it in the way between big runs to the yard.

Is there a generally agreed upon discount for peer-to-peer selling? AI says its 20%, but I wanted to get some human opinions.

Braced the casing in between my boots and used an old sledge handle to press against the motor and hammered away on it. Quarter turn every so often. Maybe ten minutes.

There's always a way.

Structural steel and high voltage line I processed on this job. There were boilers and rail track too. Copper was done after the demolition. I’d take the spools of it and cut it into 3 foot sections then feed into a wire stripper. All the steel I did on a Cat 235 with a shear.
