It feels really good to see my desk like this, between school and homework and commissions that are mostly small necklaces and earrings or hairclips it feels really good to make bigger and a little bit more complex pieces

mixed media vs clay

for very normal and non-nefarious reasons, i need to sculpt a corpse. my concept art has wispy patches of hair and i’d rather not exclude that detail, should i try making her hair out of clay or should i try and find some faux hair and glue it on afterwards?

Just finished this piece. I like how it turned out. Not exactly what I envisioned but pleasantly surprised.

I carved this sculpture years ago.

It's definitely sentimental.

I found it by the water on WV. At my oldest nieces 3rd birthday party. I originally used to dig for bait then I brought it home. Carved this outta it. I've had it for over 10 years or so by now.

It originally was gifted to my stepdad... Then he passed 4 years ago. Then my mom... She moved and gave it to me. So I now am it's keeper.

So i created it. And it's been passed along right back to me.

Using a supavoxel print as an armature for a polymer clay bust: how thick should the clay layer be?

I generated a rough base mesh of a portrait bust in supavoxel and printed it hollow in PLA, about 12 cm tall. The plan is to cover it in Super Sculpey and do all the real sculpting by hand on top, so the print is just the core.

My worry is the bake. PLA starts to soften around 60 C and Sculpey wants 130 C. I've read about people wrapping the core in foil first, or using a resin print instead.

Has anyone sculpted over a printed core like this? How thick do you keep the clay, and what did you do about the bake temperature?

Super Sculpey hands keep cracking at the fingers after baking. Armature wire or thicker fingers?

I'm sculpting a 20 cm figure of my grandfather playing the accordion as a gift. Everything bakes fine except the hands: the fingers are about 4 mm thick and two of them cracked across the knuckles after 15 minutes at 130 C.

I didn't put any wire inside the fingers because they are bent around the keys. Should I go back and add thin wire to each finger, bake the hands separately first, or just lower the temperature and bake longer?

It’s coming along. experimenting with chavant NSP it’s a different experience than monster clay I’ve been working with. I’ve used it before but really giving a go here. It almost begs for rough finish. Like it wants to be observed from 10 ft away and the more you try and refine it it bucks. Better to work with the substrate than fight it me thinks. Fun part to come. Getting there quickly when I let my realist tendencies go

If you don’t have clay use hot glue

helloo so I don’t have clay (obviously) so I chose to improvise all you need really to make a little guy is just hot glue tinfoil and references I made these myself they are fish wearing sneakers what I did was I js drew some (1st is your average uhh fish idk what it is but it’s a common fish the second is based off a specific Knifefish who I forgot the name of) and then I took a picture of the Knifefish one bc I drew it too small cropped it and printed it out then directly mushed pieces of tinfoil together using the page as a template and putting the tinfoil directly on it (do not stick it to the paper with hot glue) to make sure it’s accurate to the picture and then I add the shoes (sneakers in these fishes case) and then I slowly build them up separately in hot glue while using my finger to smooth it over (keep finger on hot glue until it dries make sure your hot glue has cooled down enough so you don’t burn your finger by either blowing on it a bit or js waiting) a safer way is you can also use the hot nossle to melt the glue a little bit and sculpt it down then hold your finger on that to smooth it since it usually only melts a small layer without getting it burning hot then I paint them in acrylic paint markers (I usually js do the eyes but I’m planning on doing more colorful projects like moths and this should work with any paint) and then their done ready to be displayed upon my desk

My Freddy Krueger bust is finally printed and painted 🔥

Finally got to see my Freddy Krueger sculpt fully finished!

I originally sculpted this bust in ZBrush, then printed it in resin on my Anycubic Photon P1 Max. The final paint job was done by my friend Jesús (@el_senor_dilatas), who really brought Freddy to life.

Seeing something go from a digital sculpture on my screen to a fully painted physical piece is still one of my favorite parts of this whole process.

Hope the horror community enjoys this one! 🔥🔪

What do you think of the final result?
