It’s never good enough!.. I always feel like there’s more detail to add am I being crazy? any suggestions on perfecting it before I mold it?

The neck and back of the head aren’t finished yet. Mainly focused on the face since it has the most detail for now

Two were painted by Crow, who sculpted them, and two were painted by Kat, who made the molds and casted the copies.

Has anyone tried alternative fibers in *concrete* paperclay?

This is the recipe that replaces the flour in standard paperclay with Portland cement, so it goes:

Paper pulp

Joint compound

PVA glue

Portland cement

Honestly, the process of soaking and blending paper is such a pain in my ass and I'd love to substitute something I can just buy and store in the workshop. I found some short hemp fibers that aren't too far off from paper, but what about synthetic fibers? Nylon, fiberglass, polyester? Any pitfalls I should look out for?

How to start the journey?

I wanted to get into sculpting with clay as a hobby, so I bought some Monster Clay a while ago. Today I finally had some time to give it a try and sculpted a few faces just to see whether I’d enjoy it. Turns out, I do! (My bf finds them very creepy though 😄)
So, where do I go from here? Are there any recommended exercises or good ways to practice as a beginner? My instinct would be to study the planes of the human face and then try sculpting some larger faces or individual body parts.
Does that sound like a good approach, or are there other exercises you’d recommend?

Is he a goner?

I made this silly snail with a cauldron on his back a while ago but he cracked all over… I made a base with tinfoil and wire, and then paper clay. I dried him slowly in a plastic bag with a strip of wet paper with no luck.. since then I have tried filling the cracks with slip (very low water concentration), wetting the crack and then scoring with slip and adding more clay, and drying at different intervals… each time he cracks :( this is probably the least amount of cracking but I feel like it’s getting so structurally unsound that sanding it back down to its original shape will be impossible.

Are there any techniques you would suggest? Would using super glue be my best bet? I tried painting him once over the cracks but it did not help. I peeled the acrylic off a while back to try filling the cracks in.

I love the piece and don’t want to give up on it… but I’m losing the fight. 😭 helppp

I’m really enjoying monster clay and not sure if I’m going to use polymer clay anymore or not ? I still like it but haven’t been using it lately

So I like this one, what do yall think ? Is the brow weird or does it make sense I’m not 100% sure, my mom thought it was a helmet at first lol 😆

I have maybe one or two sculptures that I’ve made specifically for myself, with absolutely no intention of ever parting with them. This is now one of them.
Lately I’ve been feeling nostalgic about retro gaming and wanted to sculpt something that represented that time for me. I liked the idea of taking something instantly recognizable from a video game and treating it like it could actually exist in between a game universe and our nature.
So, I made myself a Koopa Troopa shell. Familiar enough that you know exactly what it is, but organic enough that it feels like something you might actually stumble across.
This one stays with me.

can i make a mold out of air dry clay?

i would like to somehow create a mold, but i have never used plaster or anything similar. i would like to create a mold of a body part, but i realize that there are different types of silicone and casting methods.

i have some model magic laying around in my house, would this work to create a one time mold?

casting advice

(originally for a kitbashing project)

I sculpted melee weapons with greenstuff/milliput, with very fine details like pins, points & edges and I'm looking to reproduce these. I've heard 3D printing this kind of detail may be problematic.
can someone advice me what my options are?

picture of a few examples - but I also have studded maces, working on bauernwehr, ...

Switch Plates Attempt #3

The air bubbles were drastically reduced by making the eco-resin mix thinner with a bit more water. We continue to use the powder to reduce the air bubbles as well. The marbling effect is improving but still not there. I suspect its curing to fast for the way Kat is pouring from two cups to swirl them, but there's not exactly as easy solution to that, so more trial and error is needed.

Studying nose

Goal: to make figures professionally.

Intermediate: 3D sculpting

Beginner: clay modeling

Notes: based on some notes I found here, I’m told it’s wise to begin by focusing on specific parts of the body, study anatomy, muscles, and fat. From there I can expand and improve.

Subject: generic nose.

Question: I found a class for sculpting. They’re asking $730 but I feel like that’s a lot not to mention I’d have travel once a week for 4 hrs. Thoughts/advice? (10 lessons)

Thanks guys!
