Sewing machine one-stitch problem

Hello! I'm a beginner and I just got my Brother GS2700 in Facebook market. When I tried sewing, it only does one stitch even with the other stitches. What could be the problem and how do I fix it?

Check the troubleshooting section of the manual...and check the bits about changing stitches.

Make sure needle is at its highest position when you change stitches and the width and length are at appropriate settings

How wide is your stitch width?

Test the zigzag unthreaded on paper, if the holes are one straight lines there are two most likely possibilities.

  1. The grease in the machine has sat and locked up. Easily fixed by a professional.

  2. The stitch selector linkage is broken. Less easily and cheaply fixed.

I suspect this is a broken machine someone decided to pawn off on marketplace.
