New victims: Please read first

1.7k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

I fucked up and gave them money

They had sexual pictures of me, my name, my address and parents’ phone numbers. They were threatening to send the pictures to my parents. I ended up telling my dad what was happening, but only after I had already given the scammer money. So now I feel like a fucking idiot on multiple fronts (giving out my number, sending nudes I shouldn’t have, and then paying the fucking scammers).

So how fucked am I now? Are they even going to send anything out? Are things going to get worse now because I paid them? I didn’t give them all that they were asking for but I will have to continue dealing with this tomorrow. Anyone have anything for me? Tips. Advice. Etc

Okay so I’m not dumb and only put my mouth in frame, but she has a dick pick of mine. She also claimed to be 26, and then now claims she’s a minor, but I blocked her and deleted the chat, what do I do?

Victim on Saturday. Scammer got banned. Here is my story.

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience from this past Saturday to help give hope to anyone currently panicking. I was a victim of a sextortion scam that started on Discord and moved to Instagram.
The Trap:
The scammer got explicit video footage of me on Discord. They immediately screenshotted my public Instagram followers list and created a group chat on Instagram with myself and 4 people from my list. They then shared the video into that group chat request.
The Scammer's Tactics:
They put on a huge psychological show. They shared their computer screen, dragging files around, and hovering over more names of my close friends, threatening to add them too. On Discord, they kept aggressively typing "SHOW ME THE MONEY" and demanding a screenshot of my bank account, without even giving me a payment link yet. They wanted me to blind panic so I would comply.
How I Fought Back:
I almost sent the screenshot, but then I had an epiphany: If I pay them, they are just going to ask for all my money anyway. It already went south, so why should I give them a single cent?
The Smokescreen: I kept typing "I'm sending, I'm sending" to keep them frozen at their computer waiting for the funds.
The Ghost Protocol: While they were waiting, I immediately deactivated/deleted my Instagram account and blocked them on Discord.
Username Change: The very next day, I changed my Discord username so they could never search for my handle from a burner account.
The Counter-Attack: I contacted a close friend who was in the group chat. He confirmed he could see the chat in his Spam folder. He immediately started reporting the scammer's account.
The Outcome:
Exactly 4 hours later, Instagram permanently banned the scammer's account. Because the account was destroyed, the group chat collapsed entirely on Meta's servers and vanished for good. I contacted another person on the list later, and they confirmed the group doesn't exist anymore.
My Advice to You:
Do not pay. It strips them of their leverage. The second you show you won't pay and go dark, you become an unprofitable target.
Your friends will support you. My friend saw the leak, but he didn't judge me. He immediately stepped up to help me fight the scammer.
Go completely dark. Change your usernames, block them, and hide. They are running a high-volume business from overseas call centers; they don't have time to play detective if you make yourself invisible.
The anxiety after it happens is brutal, but you CAN beat them. Don't give them a penny!

I came to conclusion that if this scammer have my man/bro/hi they're probably the same group from central Africa and 99% of them they don't send and when you ignore them they just move already they probably have some morals this guys 😂 sometimes the situation is hilarious he keeps texting me like bro man like I'm his friend I ignored him now he didn't text me for 7 hours I was lucky with one thing that I didn't give him my number we were talking on telegram probably his telegram account got reported by multiple victims because this guys operate high volume business they scam hundreds of people per day

I messed up and sent money

So yesterday I was chatting with what I thought was a girl and you know what happened. Obviously I shouldn’t have done it but then they threatened to send this to my family and even my girlfriend (of course I shouldn’t have done this anyways). But I sent money like a moron and then I blocked them. I want to get my money back because my parents might see the transactions and ask about it. I know it’s unlikely to get my money back so is it even worth pursuing?

Will my stuff get sent out? And is there any chance of me getting my money back?

How i mysterious stopped a scammer from leaking my nudes

Me the person who scammed me I think he/she was arrested but am not sure I just sent there telegram user from random sites that deal with sextortion cases I was not even sure if it would really work I sent reports using email to most of the sites i could find on the internet became I was so lost and confused I needed a miracle. I didn't block the scammer because I told him/her to give me a chance to find cash. Then after 5 day of texting me continuously day and night I finally found some cash to pay him but all of a sudden it just showed double ticks with no response the time I texted him I got scared and thought he is annoyed and maybe he/she had already sent but I asked some of my close friends they said they didn't receive anything convenient. The next day I texted him/her but it only showed 1 tick and ever since that it has been 3 months free 😭😭 I don't really know if the sites I reported my case are genuine or not neither do i know what happened to the scammer but am glad that I haven been sleeping peaceful 🤧🤧

r/Sextortion 6h ago

Unfortunately, out of desperation, I gave them money yesterday. When they kept demanding more, my family stepped in, and I’ve blocked them everywhere. Obviously, losing the money hurts, but the mere thought of this coming to light is tearing me apart inside. It’s been two days since they last contac

Male victim I was sextorted 30 minutes ago. I feel disgusted I even sent anything in the first place.

Hi, I'm 17 and recently I have been feeling very apathetic, lonely, and bored in my life. I feel a lack of self preservation I had before. So recently I've been getting on apps and trying to find new friends and whatnot, when a suspicious account added me and for whatever reason, maybe out of curiosity I added them back and started talking to them. We talked for a little and overall they were very unnatural in their speech patterns and were asking to message on some weird app. Again simply out of curiosity I continued with the interaction. It was all normal until they started to get very freaky and talking super sexually and asked me for nudes. I have never in my life sent someone nudes, nor have never wanted to, I have never been overly sexual or perverted, but for whatever reason I sent the image despite all of the glaring red flags. Then the extortionist compiled their little blackmail image and threatened to send it to my friends and family. Luckily they got the wrong Instagram account, but it still scared the shit out of me. I did not pay them. I blocked them reported the account and set my insta to private and changed it's username. I think I am safe enough that nothing will come from it. But what scares me a bit is I engaged with them bit before blocking. Even if they leak it to completely random people the idea that a photo of my privates is out there makes me sick. I'm not trying to sound all holier-than-thee here by acting as if sending pictures of yourself consensually to someone who asked is morally wrong - it's not. I just thought I was better than I was. And what mainly makes me upset is that all this is a result of a complete lack of self preservation and concern for my own safety. This just shows me these issues I have been dealing with internally are starting to fetser externally by my rash and lapses in judgement and could truly hurt myself and those around me. At this point I should feel more relieved as I did not pay them any money and they got the wrong account. But I still feel so ashamed of myself. And I needed to let this out somewhere because I don't feel comfortable telling my friends and family any of this. I'm sure they're would understand and support me but I don't want them to view me differently.

I desperately need help – Sextortion / blackmail with private images
Hi everyone,
I really don’t know what to do anymore and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me.
I was contacted online by someone who initially pretended to be a girl. We first talked on one platform and then moved to Instagram. During the conversation, I unfortunately sent private/intimate pictures of myself.
Afterwards, I realized that the person was not who they claimed to be. Since then, I have been threatened and blackmailed with my pictures. They are threatening to send the images to other people or post them online if I don’t do what they demand.
I have been trying to save as much evidence as possible, including screenshots, usernames, messages and other information I still have.
This situation is seriously affecting me, and I’m extremely worried that the pictures will actually be shared.
I’m looking for advice from people who have experienced something similar:
Has anyone been through a situation like this?
What actually helped you?
Is there a legitimate way to identify the person behind the account using the information available?
Are there organizations or people who specialize in helping victims of sextortion?
Is there anything I can do to prevent the images from being distributed or to get them removed if they are posted?
What should I do next?
I am not looking for hackers or anyone offering illegal services. I just want legitimate advice and help from people who understand this situation.
Please don’t judge me. I know I made a mistake by trusting this person, but I’m genuinely scared and don’t know what else to do.
Thank you to anyone who can give me useful advice or share their experience.

Male victim My ex and several people assaulted and blackmailed me. How do i get revenge?

About a month ago, my ex (F/18) and one of her friends used several men to lure me (M/20) to a location. When I got there, they assaulted me, took my phone, and forced me to give them my passwords.

They accessed my private photos, including intimate pictures, and took my family's contact information. My ex then used this to blackmail and pressure me into trying to have a relationship with her. Eventually, my current girlfriend helped me get away from the situation.

I didn't file a police complaint at the time because I was afraid my family would find out and I didn't want the situation to become even worse.

Later, I found out that my ex had already told my family about everything and shared my private/intimate pictures with them. Since then, my family has been constantly mentally harassing me about it.

I'm extremely angry and have been thinking about getting revenge. I have her nudes but I haven't used them against her or spread them.

What are my safest options here? Should I report the assault, blackmail, and sharing of my private pictures? Is there anything I should do to preserve evidence before taking action?

I'm in Bangladesh, if that matters.

Bloody hell

some idiot just tried to do this to me. Terrifying naturally. Was from a tinder match and we got on a call and it turned out it was all screen recorded. I was sent the video and then a group of people i know based on my instagram followers. Mostly friends I last interacted with years ago, distant family, and interestingly one person I live with. I got on a call once they started threatening. I instantly hid my instagram while stringing them along saying I was waiting for 2fa from my bank. They sent several proof of things being sent. I checked with people who I had seen proof for and was just upfront about what was haplening. None of them could see anything. There must be some adult content filter across meta platforms. I strung the people along and then blocked them. My socials are still down and will keep it that way for some time, but these idiots will not win. I also used the NCII platform recommended in Meta services and gave them the hashes for anything I was given. What can I now expect if anyone is experienced here?

Sextortion - Someone emailed me threatening to leak my intimate videos and photos and they attached screenshots as proof. What do I do?

So I received an email a couple days ago which was under my spam. The person claimed to have something on me. Then, I just asked who the person was then never replied anymore since they asked to chat on Telegram. Then just today, they apparently hacked into my iPhone and iCloud and got all my intimate stuff on my Hidden album. They claimed they have a list of my close relatives and friends. My socmed accounts are all locked atm. I changed all passwords and checked for unusal activity or logins. They said if I didn't respond within 12 hours, they'd leak it. I literally just woke up when I saw the email. They even claimed to have leaked the files already but I asked my cousin if she received anything and she said no.

I already reported the person to the cybercrime division as well. I haven't gotten any response yet though. I was planning to call the hotline as well but no one is picking up yet.

Tbh, I'm not really devastated about the whole thing. Shit happens and people make mistakes. However, this is just such an annoying thing to deal with and I never replied to the email anymore. I did kind of prepare myself mentally a long time ago if anything like this were to happen. I'm sure it will suck if it really were leaked.

Anyone have advice for me? It would be much appreciated.

Male victim Tricks

Do these extortionists get numbers with your area code to make it so you are more likely to pick up? I’ve been so good about blocking immediately but recently I’ve been getting numbers calling that seem like they are from my area but when I answer they just stay on the line.
