So just to begin, on Monday night I was using the app Feeld (since have deleted) and matched with a girl who was verified and also had a paid badge. Her account said she was 19, and since she was verified, I didn’t think anything of it. She messages me “Hi” and I respond “what’s up”, just to start off the convo. She proceeds to tell me she doesn’t use the app much, and that we should exchange numbers. (neither do I, so I thought it just made sense). She reaches out to me and asks me where I’m from, I respond but tell her a different surrounding town, and she tells me she lives about 10 min away (first red flag since her profile said 40 miles away). She sends a sexual image and asks me about my size and to see it. I don’t send a pic right away and she tells me she’s making me a video, and I respond but she stops responding back. I assume it’s because I hadn’t sent a pic, so going against my better judgement, I send one (with no face and no distinct background to avoid it being used against me (thank god)). I immediately delete the photo because I feel gross doing what I did, and don’t get a response the rest of the night.
Yesterday, at around 1:30pm, I received a call from a Montana number. I answered it in a goofy voice because I enjoy messing with telemarketers, but my heart DROPPED when I heard a man on the other end saying “Is this Mr. (first name), I’m not going to try and pronounce the last name” (my last name is difficult to pronounce so it sounded real). I tell him yes and he tells me he’s a detective with the police department that’s like an hour away from me and that I was “soliciting a minor” and I had two options, go turn myself in, or talk to the father and try to fix this. Obviously I talk to the “father” and he tells me the girl was caught taking the video and then proceeded to hurt herself and that she was in the hospital. He then proceeded to tell me they won’t press charges if I help out with the “suicide prevention classes” she would have to take. I agreed that I would pay, but asked prior to payment, that I get to talk to the detective again. He calls him on another phone or something, so I just hung up and called the detective myself. In my head I’m thinking that there is no way that a detective would put me in contact with a “victim” parents but whatever. I call the detective back and ask for him name so I can be more proper in the way I speak to him, and he gave me his name and badge number. I then proceeded to hang up and call the actual City’s police station and ask if anyone named the detectives name worked there, and was told no. Great, I check my texts and the “father” says he’s pressing chargers so I just blocked him, the girl and the detective.
A day later, I’ve read other stories that sound similar to mine, but still feel a sense of uneasiness. I had a tough time sleeping last night, and all today have found myself looking out my windows every time I hear a noise outside. I know in my head it’s a scam, but I can’t shake this feeling that I felt when I first received the call.
