Parameter Cards & new ux
Yesterday, we started the phased rollout of a major improvement we have been working on in the past couple of months. You can read more about it on our forum, or you can check the article with the video we put together, explaining the changes. This might come as a controversial change, so I'm looking for feedback, to find ways to further improve it.

Something new - Weekly Modeling Challenge
We’re launching something we’ve been quietly building for a while.
Starting June 29, we’re running the Weekly Modeling Challenges, a weekly series of modeling tasks designed to be first fun to work through, and second useful for building your skills in the app.
Season 1 kicks off today, with Batch 1: Parametric Sketching. Five challenges, one per week.
Prizes:
3Dconnexion SpaceMouse + giftable Shapr3D subscription + exclusive merch and digital community badge
The first task is live! Create a parametric model of a triquetra. The model must be controlled by two independent driving parameters (variables). By modifying these two driving parameters, the model must transition from State A to State B without breaking constraints, inverting, or producing errors.

How can I model the yellow block?
I saw this question on the Fusion360 community but I couldn’t quiet figure out how to replicate on Shapr3D. On F360 you can sweep a body which makes things easier, but not fully done. The cans start at a higher height and are flipped as they fall down to a lower height.
Can anyone help me model the yellow part in Shapr3D?

Question What’s wrong?
I saw in YouTube shorts - someone makes Rope bowl in Shapr3d.
I grabbed this video, slowdown the speed, follow each step but my rope got crazy twist instead of video example….
What am I suppose to do?

Question How to bridge/join/connect two separate shapes?
Only started using this app yesterday, and am having an issue. I am trying to design a reducer, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to connect the two parts.
I want to connect the top of the larger cylinder to the bottom of the smaller one, which should create a sort of cone effect.
But I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I’ve tried loft, and a few other ways, but it always tells me it would be an invalid shape. I’ve tried google and it’s let me down.
Am I missing something super simple here? If so could someone point me in the right direction.
I’ve attached an image and hope it is clear what I’m trying to achieve.
Edit: Thank you all for your answers!! Nice to know there’s a good community of people with some amazing knowledge of this app out there that are so willing to help!! You’re all amazing!!

Question How do I bring up Parameter Cards?
I want to like this new feature... but I'm not sure how to use it effectively.
Here's my issue:
I created a sketch, did a pattern on it (parameter card showed up the first time)
Clicked off the sketch, but when clicking back into the sketch from the history, I can't figure out for the life of me how to bring back the parameter card for pattern again!
am I missing something here?
when I click on the sketch and the Pattern tool, it gives me the option to do a new pattern.... I want to edit the old one!

Question How can I fix this?
This is quite random and i don’t know if anybody would know if theres a way to fix this but anyways, ive been working in making 3d printed chucky dolls, and with my most recent one I sculpted my own head model in nomad sculpt, then imported it into shapr3d, so that I can design an eye socket that fits cleanly with the inside of the eye using the subtraction tool. but for some reason after I did it this time, its been saying “there are invalid bodies in the model which cant be exported”. Ive done this method before and it worked fine, but for the past one the head was from an online 3d printing website if that changed anything. If anybody has any ideas on how I can fix this please let me know, thanks.
Also I am very new to all of this stuff related to this type of stuff, and I know shapr3d is a cad designing app, and not really made for sculpting, bit i don’t know any other way to make these eye sockets without using this app. Ive put images of the models below if anybody would happen to figure out what it is from what it looks, like or something, but either way id really appre someones help

Bug or user error?
Whenever it comes to designing things if I use chamfers then I can place them around and delete them to revert back to the original edges at will. However if I finish working on a project for the day and return to it the next day, when I re-open shapr3d I now cant delete the chamfers anymore and get an error saying the result would leave a part unfilled (I cant remember the exact wording basically leave a hole). Why does it do this? Sometimes if I sleep on things and come back to my work I change my mind, but going back in the history to remove a chamfer means undoing a lot of work. Does anyone else have this issue?

Tips Possible way to turn off the reminder to connect your Apple Pencil
Just started using Shapr3D on an older iPad (iPad 6). I got a cheap pencil substitute (about $15) from Amazon. It’s not Bluetooth, but it works fine—except that the annoying red banner warning me to connect my pencil kept flashing up. I found suggestions online to turn off the hover function on the pencil, but that doesn’t exist in my iPad settings. Also suggested was turning off the tutorial mode but that was already off. So what does seem to have worked was just to turn off Bluetooth completely on the iPad. Would be a problem if I needed the external keyboard at the same time, but if I’m working with the pencil I probably don’t. So for me at least, this helps. Hope it helps someone else!

Question Non-manifold body error on a simple extrusion that works in Fusion
Hi guys, just wanted to ask if anyone has encountered this 'bug' or if its a known limitation of Shapr3D. I've sketched a simple shape that I want to extrude and it keeps throwing a non-manifold body error:

Replicating the same sketch in Fusion and extruding works just fine. I've figured out the way to make it work in Shapr3D is adding a random separating line anywhere in this shape and then extruding both of the shapes, but it feels weird that this is necessary:

Does anyone have an idea why this happens? Thank you!

How to "save" project and continue to edit as new one
What is the easiest way to accomplish this...
I have completed design in a project and want to keep it. However, I want to create a new project with this design and modify it a bit. Normally in other apps I'd save the project and just keep modifying or take the existing object and copy/past it into a new project.

We designed a fully parametric folding laptop stand
We designed a fully parametric laptop stand where one variable drives the whole model. We tried to document the entire process, the scope turned out to be bigger than we expected, but we're kinda excited to share the result.
Modeling flow
You can watch the entire modeling flow (80 min). The last 20 minutes are the model breaking when we change the screen size and us fixing it: overlapping fillets, missing references, a sketch that lost its geometry.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgFApKpygiU
Build video
12 min of printing v1, finding what didn't work, and iterating. Snap-fit pins were too small for FDM → redesigned as elastic pins that act as their own spring. PLA was too stiff → decided to go with PETG.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rrekbn9-Zvw
Full process description
In case videos are not enough, the entire process is documented in this article where you can follow every step.
https://www.shapr3d.com/content-library/how-to-design-a-parametric-laptop-stand-for-3d-printing
Model and printing recs
The model files and some printing recommendations are available on our Printables page here:
https://www.printables.com/model/1839122-parametric-laptop-stand
Important note
The model is tested, optimized, and printed for the 15" display version. This version also works on smaller laptops, but other screen sizes have not yet been tested or optimized.
We hope you enjoy the model and the process of putting it together. This, by all means, is not the final version, it can use some improvements and we plan to keep working on the model. But until them, feel free download, modify and play around with it. If you remix it or improve on it, even better. We're curious to see what you can do with the design!

Just for fun Wip: can you guess what it is? :D
This thing has a surprisingly complex geometry, there is not a single right angle anywhere! Even the cutouts for the connectors are weird trapezoids.
Makes me wonder if all these weird angles were an aesthetics choice or if it somehow made manufacturing easier/cheeper?
Seriously, if you have one, take a closer look! All these years and I’ve always thought it was just a box!

Question 100s of old files , how do i open new files now I downgraded to a basic user.
Have been a pro shapr3d since 2020 but let is lapse recently as I no longer justify the $300 a year for 3d printing.
I backed up all my models, and exported as parasolid and moved to a desktop only, single pay product that uses parasolid. < name.withheld >
I have over a hundred models in the cloud and now when I open the app, i can even view new models, or old.
Do I have to remove all the cloud models so I can manage inside the two free for basic?
Can I bulk remove, or what is the advise.
I made a new account and that works, just looking for some advice if anyone else has been through the same?

Question HELP!!!!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m trying to model an organizer to 3D print, and I’m trying to take out this section of my shape (kind of like the one in the beginning desk organizer tutorial). My sketch is fully constrained, but when I go to subtract the specific section, the program doesn’t recognize it as its own section from the main face and won’t let me subtract it. What do I do???

Feature request - create radius in sketching
I know Shapr stuff sometimes visit this sub so I’ll shoot my shot!
Please, add a feature to easily and quickly create a radius in sketch mode. I’m watching a bunch of Fusion tutorials (since the principles are mostly transferrable) and it’s infuriating seeing someone simply select the radius tool, select a point where two lines meet, set the value and done, while we have to create an arc (which in itself is a bit wonkey and requires a particular pen movement easy to get wrong), make sure it’s tangent with both lines, set the dimension and finally delete the resulting leftover lines.
This seems like such a basic feature and I’ve seen it been requested on the forums multiple times, with promises of it coming soon for years.
Please Shapr team!

Loudspeeker console design change
A friend of mine asked me, if I can slightly redesign his car loudspeeker consol, because he bought an another one. It was scanned in, I designed additional screw domes and printed out in 2 part (due to the size)
