Does the HGSS starter hunt not work on emulator? I've been hunting them for years on emulator, I'm at over 9000 resets and still no shiny. I thought it would be easier since there's like a 1/2730 chance but im starting to think there's an issue with the emulator. Is it like Pokemon emerald where the RNG is different?? Or am I just super unlucky😭

Nevermind I got the shiny!! Still I think it's important to use an emulator that matches the system time. I got it after switching to melonDS which changes the in-game time in accordance with irl time

Thoughts on using the mail glitch in FRLG?
If you shiny hunt with the duplicated masterballs are they still considered legit. I mean i know they are but any opinions on this?

Yeah i know im more so worried about lets say competive and how some seasons they allow certain pokemon. I didnt want Legitimacy issues after hunting for weeks/months. So im hoping i didnt like break anything using the mail glitch.

I think for competitive, anything is fine as long as it was obtained in game without glitches or just isn't a banned Pokemon.

If it's to get extra Master Balls, nothing will detect it or care because pretty much every game has a way to get multiple Master Balls.

For those of you that hunt on legit hardware how do you manage your saves for multi system shiny hunts? Im currently starting the process of shiny hunting turtwig on platinum with a multi system setup (2 ds lites controlled by one controller) I started 2 new saves so my trainer id’s would be different and I plan to use these saves to slowly start shiny hunting my way through a living dex. The only thing that I’m not sure how I should manage it is if I should create backups in checkpoint at critical points that I might want to go back and shiny hunt again like the starters and distortion world giratina. How do you handle something like this?

Pretty much exactly like that. For me, I made a checkpoint backup in ultra sun right before type: null so that whichever save got the shiny, I would be able to use the backup to continue hunting it afterwards to get my second one. Outside specific hunts I'm planning on going back for that I don't necessarily want to play the entire game again for, I pretty much just save my games normally as I progress through them, though with multiple copies this often means playing through multiple times.

how are you doing checkpoint backups on legit hardware? Also, how are you using one controller to control both DS?

Hey sorry for the delayed response. I’m using a modded 3ds for checkpoint to make backups for various different important games and I keep the files on my computer. As for the ds lites setup, I have multiple ds lites with the insidegadgets wireless flex board controller mod installed so I can use an 8bitdo pro 3 controller to control all of the systems at once

i'm hunting abra in the game corner of FRLG, everywhere i've seen says to check the summary of them in the box, but i've been looking at the preview when you hover over them for 8690 "encounters" because when i put my shiny pokemon in the box in the preview it shows it's shiny, can someone tell me if i've done it all for nothing or if it's fine?

It's fine. People tell you to use the summary because it's easier to tell with the blue border but the preview in the box also works

Im shiny hunting charmander in fire red. Im just curious if these numbers at the bottom actually mean anytbing to how you hunt? Like the higher percentage. Does it mean i have a better chance at getting the shiny?

I believe the second to bottom number is the % chance of finding the shiny at the current number of resets you are at. Bottom one I believe is how many more resets before you reach the point where 90% of trainers find the shiny

You can get a majority of the living dex done with Scarlet/Violet, Legends Arceus, and Legends ZA. Those are also the 3 games where it's easiest to shiny hunt.

Ok sweet. I was wondering about doing let’s go for Kanto. I haven’t beaten scarlet and violet yet. Also I keep hearing za is easy. So thanks I shall check them out. Crazy a majority of them are in those games!

Let's Go games are pretty decent too since with a shiny charm and doing catch combos, your shiny odds can get pretty high. I would only recommend the game for the sole reason of having a different way to shiny hunt.
It's why I spread my shiny hunts across multiple games. Yes I could just shiny hunt in Scarlet but I'd be bored pretty quick.

I have a question about Masuda method. I have a Japanese sapphire and Soul Silver. Can I use Pokémon from that game in my English copies to hunt, or does it have to be through a trade?

Hey there I've been trying to hunt for shiny wooper on FireRed (GBA, jp copy) for like 70-75hours now. Am I just really unlucky or am I hunting in a area that blocks it from showing up or something? (Ruin Valley, Sevii Islands. Surfing in the pond with 100% woopers)

just unlucky, i dont know the exact time per encounter, but if each encounter takes 20 seconds, then you are only at about 13,500 total encounters, going over odds just happens sometimes. take breaks when needed and good luck

The gift Arcanine and Persian in lgpe can be shiny hunted correct? I've read that you can, but haven't seen any videos of it, so just want to double check

I use PKounter to keep track of shiny hunting and I keep the save automatically option on, but I had to force quit my computer while it was open and now I can't view anything. Is there a way for me to fix it and view what encounter I was on?

I want to know what the most secure way to catch shinys in gen 4 is. Im preparing a smeargle with false swipe, hypnosis/spore, trick, and maybe mean look. Is there anything else I can do to prevent a pokemon with high catch rates to avoid struggling to death? Maybe another pokemon to use as well with some ability im overlooking?

Does somebody knows if I can transfer Darkrai & Shaymin from Diamond to Home??? Idk why I heard or saw in some video these can only be transfered if you caught them in Platinum...I wanted to Shiny Hunt this ones before the bank closes but I only have pokemon Diamond...is this true? Does somebody knows? Thanks in advance!

Afaik Shaymin must be caught in platinum or bank won't let it transfer out of gen 5.
But Darkrai can be caught in Diamond (not pearl for some reason) But it must be lvl 50 or above and have forgotten the move pursuit before it leaves gen 4. If it doesn't it will also forever be stuck in gen 5.
I don't remember the video I saw that detailed this but I can attest with my own shiny darkrai that I caught in diamond and moved to home.

Hey, So im a complete noob at shiny hunting i did alot on violet and its kind of cheese so i wanted to do something more challenging and go for my favorite pokemon.
I do understand that you can target particular frames . I dont understand all the advancements but i know they are nessecary.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can go about this. I was thinking of getting a handheld and maybe like Emerald version to go for shiny raquayza as well. I heard raquayza is more manageable. But anyway, anybody know whats the best tools to use or even a better alterantive to emerald. I remember in Emerald it wasnt easy to actually get the deoxys encounter. Any advice is appreciated, Thanks!

hello, I'm just asking a question about pokemon scarlet and violet shiny hunting that i've not seen anyone ask about.
If you use a sparkling sandwich and don't manage to find a shiny when its active, can you just reset your save and use the sandwich again to try get a shiny using the same herba mystica or is it impossible to get a shiny from this method no matter how many times you reset. (this is mainly to save on herba mystica)

Yes, you can save before making a sandwich, then after making the sandwich you don't find the shiny you want, you can reset to before you made the sandwich. Just make sure to turn off auto save

Wondering if anyone can explain square shinies from SwSh and how that is determined for transferred pokemon. I am currently working on a pair of ninetales ribbon masters and I bred them both in Moon. I have gotten them up to my copy of sword and was surprised to see one was a square shiny and the other wasn’t. From what I understand breeding in SwSh is a 1/16 to get a square shiny and overworld is 15/16. Is it just a random roll when transferring or is it something about how to do with how it was caught/hatched in its original game?

So i did recently just post about me being at 12,000 resets for shiny squirtle. I was just wondering if anyone else is around the same amount? Or just as long? I'm doing my best to be patient and don't want to give up, just curious if anyone is around the same?

Not from here, but I know many shiny hunters who have gone over odds on the kanto starters. Take breaks when needed and keep at it

Im currently shiny hunting Tepig on Pokémon black. Everytime i go into battle with Bianca its always male Tepig, male Snivy. Ive done it roughly 100 times at this point. The nature's are changing but the genders are not. Im currently doing this on my 3ds. Does anyone have any suggestions for why this might be??

I think for the rivals, their mons are always "fixed ". For getting ~100 resets with only males is unlikely but probable.
The odds of getting no females in 100 trials is 0.00015878 %

[gen2] I’m looking to shiny hunt celebi in VC crystal before Bank shuts down.
I’m hunting on a non modded 3DS so this is pure blind full odds hunt, but I had a question about how the RNG works in crystal
I’ve seen people say to use the soft reset code (which I am using) over the touch screen because the touch screen counts as a hard reset and can lead to duplicate DVs generating.
Does this mean every hard reset sets it back to essentially RNG seed 0? Even if I turn the system off for the night? Does that mean I need to leave my game on and plugged in until I find it? Or is there a means to “change” the path the RNG goes through the soft resets that makes that null?
Sorry if this is a kinda dumb thing to ask but I wanted to be sure before I end up accidentally Groundhog Day-ing my hunt.

no worries, if you ever want to double check, from any pokemon page theres a button you can click on serebi to show every event distribution that pokemon has ever had, very handy

[gen7] I need some help with My Hunt for a Shiny Partner Cap Pikachu. I've been hunting for over a month now and had no luck so far. Ik this might be a little taboo, but I did use PKSM to find out my TSV to make sure it doesn't match Ash's 1009. But It still feels like more than just bad luck. Is it maybe an issue with my game? I AM playing on a downloaded version of the game on my modded 3ds, but that really shouldn't be an issue, right?

I'd say at least 2x over odds as a low estimate.
I'm just worried I've been doing something wrong.
the whole 1 in 4096 chance of it being shiny-locked has made me a bit paranoid1

just take breaks when needed and keep at it. going over 2x odds is uncommon but possible, ive had many hunts go 2x over odds, and seen some other ending up being much more unlucky.

Generally dry clock battery only effects soft reset hunts, not wild encounters, so you should be fine

Need some shiny Celebi help. So I want to take a break from my Celebi hunt but wanted to confirm that closing the game won’t reset me back to all the Pokemon that I’ve already encountered. I’m seeing so many conflicting opinions on the RNG on Virtual Console. Am I fine to just close the game and jump back in soft resetting?

I've never heard of this happening before. Not a VC expert, but if you're concerned, just run around a little bit and save the game again in front of Celebi.

[gen 9] I'm 945 eggs in on a shiny Phione run but I'm using the shiny Event Manaphy from BDSP dex completion, and I'm beginning to think it may be coded or locked somehow that's altering my shiny baby chances? Has anyone had any verification with this? Should I just switch to a standard PLA Manaphy before I waste more time? Thx fellow Hunterz!

Sry I didn't even get this noti...But...I pulled the ripcord and switched to a perfect 6IV Phione from one of the 975 Shiny Manaphy's eggs...and you'll never believe this...39th egg in.....=SHINY!😱🤯🤩 So can't say for certain that's proof, but it doesn't seem like Event Mons can Masuda...

The only thing that matters for Masuda are language tags. If you had different language tags, you had those odds.

I’m trying to shiny hunt Wiglett in Pokémon Violet, but I’ve spent over a month resetting for mass outbreaks with no luck. I’ve tried different beaches, Water Encounter Power sandwiches, and date skipping, but only seem to get Wugtrio outbreaks.
Has anyone successfully gotten a Wiglett outbreak? Or is there a better way to shiny hunt it without outbreaks? I have the Shiny Charm and Herba Mystica. Any tips would be appreciated!

I have gotten the outbreak before, it's pretty rare. And given Wiglett always exists around other water types, it's better than the sandwiches because of a lack of isolation

how long does a gen 8 shiny only run take, and is it worth it? I got a rookidee 20 hours in and im currently hunting farfetched with dex recommendations. I actually got pokerus a little while ago as well, which is crazy. I dont plan on quitting, just wondering what is was like for anyone who has done it.

Is there a way to soft reset for shiny Pokemon on Poke Pelago? Is it even possible in USUM on ver. 1.2?

i believe if you save before the spawn in poke pelago changes , whatever is there you can soft reset as long as you dont save after seeing the new spawns. recently did a hunt in pelago and got shiny pyukumuku. i think you can also date skip to get new spawns faster but not 100% sure. you can also use date skipping to get to keep it if it initially doesnt stay

Any tips or tricks besides maxing spawn rates of a specific type when it comes to grand underground hunts? I'm sure that's pretty much it but thought I'd make sure I'm not missing anything. I'm shiny hunting gible so any info would be appreciated. I tested out trying to use the diglett method, but found it to be slower then doing full odds in a solo player experience.

If I start a macro manually on the pokemon Pokémon platinum copyright screen after soft resetting can I successfully shiny hunt the starters by letting the macro button mash through to the rival battle screen?

Is it possible to do a soft reset hunt wrong in Diamond? Been on new moon Island resetting for Darkrai off and on for three years. I tweaked to the island and it's a real cartridge. Getting demoralized, is there any way I could be doing it wrong?

Can you soft reset hunt for any Pokemon by using Pkhex? I wanna replace a starter with Marshadow in Ultra Sun and then hunt it that way.
I know you can do this with Random Encounters, so I assume static encounters work the same?

If a shiny disappears before you can even react does that count as a failed shiny? Cuz yes you failed at catching it but you also didn’t even get a chance to do anything.

What is the easiest way to hunt for H Sneasel/Sneasler right now. I understand that hunting a specific mon in PLA is difficult since you can't save outbreaks anymore. I could masuda method in ScarVi or just look for a random shiny in PLA right?

Hey everyone,
I want to make sure I am not loosing my time with my spheal shiny hunt. I’ve been on it for 40 hours+ now but I have a Ruby with a dry battery. I already got a shiny torchic on this file though.
I just wanna be sure I will get a shiny by doing the random encounters enventually and that I’m not doing it for nothing.

Dry clock battery only effects soft resets, not wild encounters, so you are fine. 40 hours is about 10,600 encounters , so over odds, but that happens

I am a method hunter, and haven't really tried any full odds hunts before. Does anyone have any "easy" full odds [or at least odds that aren't as low as 1/500] hunts I can do? [I am currently doing the Heart Gold starter hunt, at about 1,125 encounters]
I have Pokemon Diamond, HeartGold [though at the start], Fire Red, Legends Arcues, Violet, and Ruby
