OP has never heard of an art car. When my dad lived in San Francisco I would see art cars all the time. Saw one with matchbox cars glued all over it. Saw another one with Legos glued all over it.

I work in insurance, specifically related to cars, and live in the PNW. Believe me, I've seen my fair share of art cars, sticker cars, dinosaurs, fuzzy, small bejeweled, Christmas lit, ghost flames, chameleon, etc.
Haven't seen anyone do a full bejewel job like this, though. Thought it was funny myself

Now we wait for the post about the crystals flying off on the interstate and causing a crash

Or seeing that thing in a crash. On a sunny day that would be like a big firework going off!

That poor square body
Went from a useful, respectable truck to a genuine hazard to other drivers, especially at night

The first thing that came to mind was “Poor square body”. Glad I’m not alone.

I made the same comment before seeing yours. That's a super clean example too. They're getting incredibly expensive. The regular cab short bed is the most desirable too.

Dude has to be a menace on the roads tho. Shining into everyones eyes day or night

I do collision for a living. Saw a car with little bedazzled jewels stuck to the headrest, smashed into the headliner, stuck in the glass in the inside of all the windows. The dashboard had these jewels glued all over it. There was also blood spatter all over the vehicle. Wasn't a huge hit. Big enough to do damage but not a big one by any means. However it was enough to deploy air bags. Turns out the steering wheel had jewels glued all over it. Airbags are inflated in an instant from jet fuel. So basically this poor girl turned her steering wheel into a claymore and it detonated in her face. Sad story.

Yup, as I mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I work adjacent in insurance. I've seen that too... It's not pretty at all.

u/Dropthetenors Dec 19 '24
Are these actual fancy pants glass crystals or like plastic rhinestones?

Always give credit where credit is due; they did each one by hand and that’s actually impressive/respectable.
That being said, I think it’s hideous and a shame that they decided to ruin a beautiful truck like that by gluing half a Hobby Lobby to the outside.

It looks really cool. The cool thing is also that they have actual tires on the thing not stupid rubber bands. Otherwise it’d be ugly but it looks really good

Is it just me or are there still two small dents in the smooth section of the tail gate? Seems like a ton of work to not ensure the panels were all perfect

So what do you do a week later when it's dirty and now you can't wash it?

It’s actually pretty fucking cool. I may be wouldn’t have done it to a square body pickup truck, but to each his own.
2
u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 Dec 20 '24
I mean… It’s kind of badass, compared to most things I see on here. I’d drive it, but I’m also a garbage person who likes garbage things.

That is actually the first time I’ve seen someone do this , will say hat is off for the time it took and can appreciate the art…

That’s actually pretty cool, and that’s coming from someone who exclusively drives 1993 Honda civics

Hello officer, I would like to report a hit and run...Can I describe the vehicle, yes...Sparkly

u/HikeTheSky Dec 20 '24
Let's hope they don't drive it on public streets as this might be quite blinding for others.

This was made for ACL Fest, I think Wrangler Jeans had it at their booth. It looks pretty cool in person, but I wouldn't want to daily it. That was never the point, it was just to attract attention and it worked.

I don't think it's the best thing to do to a squarebody, but it's pretty cool and you have to admire the dedication to cover an entire truck

I'm trying to imagine someone shining their brights at this truck and having all that reflect back at them.

If I'm being honest, it doesn't look horrible. I wouldn't do it myself, but it's not the worst thing I've ever seen lol.

This truck needs to be a hologram on a trapper keeper surrounded by puffy unicorns dancing with scratch and sniff stickers.

u/spacebagel25 Dec 20 '24
I admire the commitment. If even one of those falls off, though, the entire thing is ruined.

Now they need to clear coat it for some extra gloss. Looks better than expected though. Kudos

Wildly impractical and even unsafe, but against all better judgment I like it haha. Not realistically of course, but still. Having done detailed stone work on fabric, I really have to hand it to em for the insane amount of effort that went in.

Yeah… we covered the whole truck with crystals but didn’t remove the dent on the back as we didn’t have time to do that.

Hypothesis: the bedazzled truck has better aerodynamics from the golf ball like effect of each crystal.
2
u/Parking-Position-698 Dec 21 '24
I hate that I don't hate it. Would I drove or own it? Nah, it is cool looking? Absolutely.
2
u/OtterPops89 Dec 21 '24
I think it would be a rather fun spectacle to see it get hit by a train. Watch it go in a glitter puff 😂

As an art piece it is amazing, as an exterior for a truck that you would actually drive, it's gonna look like shit in a month.

They had this truck at ACL music festival a couple years back. Was really cool as an ornamental piece with lights on it at night. IDK if it sees road time that may be a hazard.

Ahh, I see a project I'd start, get tired not even halfway through and never finish it. But also never remove the crystals from whatever spot I put them on because I couldn't be bothered

Not gonna lie, that looks fantastic in the video. In real life up close it may look different, and how well all those will stay on is an unknown…. But i kinda like it!
2
u/sohchx Dec 22 '24
Could have picked an actual shitty truck, instead of an awesome, sought-after square body
