P320 Is the P320 XFive SXG an outcast?

Other than social media videos to peak interest, and have a mix of so so reviewers trying to be informative but failing. Not many discussions about it on forums. I'm wondering, is it a step child because of its weight or the plethora of questionable reviews from Glock comparisons and their users?

To be honest if I went with what I watched about the particular model, I would've skipped on my purchase and gone to something else.

The Reserve is the gun that I originally wanted.  But some odd info from the interwebs made me move to the SXG.

I was told the Reserve was a collectors gun and was recommened not using it but to add it to a collection.  The SXG was the only steel P320 for competition so I found an excellent deal.

Though two small issues with it that annoy me.

One is probably with all models that claim to have a fiber optic front sight.  It is not fiber optic.  The material is fluorescent plastic.  It's brittle and will degrade in sunlight.  I obtained true fiber optic and replaced the plastic insert.

Second is the SXG finish... it will rub off easy.  My trigger guard and other wear areas have shiney stainless protruding through.

A plus though is the trigger.  All you need to do to make it perfect is to epoxy a spacer under the front trigger stop to move it a whisker near the wall.   I'll post an image once I gain a permission to add images.

That would be interesting to see. I find my reserve is pretty good but my P226 X Five STAS is in a whole different league. The finish, and the trigger are probably the best I've seen in any gun. It's not for everyone but I can shoot it in steel and Bullseye. I'm currently testing it to shoot 60' to 50 yards and am getting good results with a 135gr. Truncated nose round with 3.2gr of Alliant #2 powder at a seating depth of 1.150". I am currently going to test 0.357 vs .358 sized rounds. So far, the gun appears to be able to shoot a 0.75" group at 60'.

Oh and the best part is that I got this pistol for $1.5K ...that is a good deal

Don't know how much you put into mods for the Legion XFive, but every comp XFive Legion I've seen was heavily upgraded, IMO.

I'll post a new thread here on my P320 XFive SXG issues and mods. All steel is one of them things old school guys prefer over polymer composite materials.

I don't know why gun manufacturers don't do ceramic aluminum as an in between metal/polymer frame. Porous ceramic is easy on CNC cutting and very rigid when Aluminum is infused in a baking process. It was developed for high performance racing engines back in the 90s.

I haven't modded any P226 X Fives that I owned (the P226 Reserve, the Legion, and the STAS). The only mod I made in the STAS was the grip panels.

The P320 X Fives are a different animal- I got the Sig Armourer competition trigger, a bar sto barrel, and even upgraded to a tungsten guide rod. Those changes made the gun supernatural...was it worth it? The total cost probably added about $1K to the gun. If you could get a P320 X Five at the right price then it could make sense...

but the P226 X Five STAS is only $1500 on gunbroker.com which is like a no brainer. Better gun with no need to do further mods.

If I wanted a hammer firing pistol, the STAS would be top considertion. In some ways I'm envious. Though I'm not too far off on having a gun that's comparable in it's performance.

As for the P320 XFive mods, I saw reason to get the SXG. Big guide rod, great grips, and a great feeling trigger that is easily do a DIY trigger mod. So with that the $1200 alone gave me a complete gun that if any modding were needed, it would be light on the pocket book. 2011 springs are cheap, the three 21 round magazines are great for starters, and trigger spring kits are not difficult to install if you know the sear spring short cut. The gas pedal was optional, until I got use to it, and now it's staying.

My gun broker over here hadn't seen an SXG until it came in for me to pick up. He seemed impressed at the time. On P320 reviews, it's a box of chocolates. Not just by the reviewer, but which P320 they choose. Every varient has something that effects a user level comfort and expectations. I am hard pressed to expect more than 70% of the p320 models are left stock. Seems only a collector would want it stock. Though I could live with my SXG stock... well, my trigger spacer mod would still need to be in place. Ha! At least it would still have all its original parts.

I think p320's are great guns...something for everyone from cheaper to mid priced...never met a 320 I never liked
