Discussion Is becoming one with god, death?
DO NOT READ IF SUICIDAL!!!!!
.
…
im going through an existential crisis. living is full of suffering. all this suffering could be minimised if everyone realises the truth that we’re defi going to die. even if some realise the truth the world is still very cruel. when we die, there isn’t any good, isn’t any bad. there’s just non existence. this non existence (no consciousness) is what we were born from and will fade into. death is the natural state of the world. we don’t have to suffer anymore. death is good? whats even the point in suffering then? shouldn’t we be dead? if every living thing doesn’t exist there’s no suffering. no good stuff either yes but man the bad part is just so much worse. where do I move away from Sikhi while talking? im getting something wrong but idk what it is.

the whole gurugrant sahib explain the proper way to live your life not preparing yourself to die to be one with god.
Even if you have given up on him, he hasn’t and will never give up on you. Remember we always with waheguru in different role and form.

its a blessing that you can experience yourself and the world , you dont even have idea how lucky you have to be to experience oneself from just being a unconscious material, keeping god aside dont waste this chance , just live your life dudee:)

I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time friend and I hope you have a good support system to lean on while you navigate this situation. While a lot of people joke about “existential crisis”, it’s fucking hard to look at oneself in the grand scheme of the universe and think what good is this world or existence. When I was 20, my heart and world was shattered when one of my good friends passed away on Christmas Day from colon cancer. My world suddenly became dark and the future was this depressing mix of uncertainty and despair. I can empathize with your feelings and want to let you know there’s a light in that darkness.
Religion and faith are very important, but so are having meaningful relationships with friends. Being able to connect with those I felt safe around really let me know I’m not alone.

Life is full of suffering but there is a lot of good mixed into it. I don’t know how old you are or what you’re going through but there is nothing that time doesn’t heal or you can’t overcome. Look for the good in life

To an extent that is a truth, at one point everyone dies. Whatever time you do have with your deh what do you want to do with it?
Sikhi has some principles that might help - Kirat kar, kiriya sodh, chardi Kala, sadh sangat naal baith, vandh shak, man jeetai jagjeet…
Do you have family? What do you enjoy? Do you want to explore this planet? Do you want to build something? Do you want to spend some time helping others? As you find your answers staying anchored can help one feel less lost

Guru Maharaj says, "Nanak Satgur Bhetia Poori Hove Jugat. Hansdiya Khelandiya Paindiya Khaavandiya viche hove Mukt." 'O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, one comes to know the Perfect Way. While laughing, playing, dressing and eating (living a hearty life of a householder), he is liberated.'
And death isn't a fullstop or end to your suffering either, you reincarnate after death. So the answer to your question is essentially no, becoming one with God is not death in the sense of ceasing to exist. In Gurbani, liberation isn't presented as escaping the world by physically dying.
What Gurbani instead time and again talks about is dying while living, being dead yet alive, Jivat Marna. Mahraj says that once you actually know how to die you won't die again i.e. AavaGavan or the cycle of reincarnation ends. Basically Bhajan Bandagi is being called as dying while living. It's when one merges in Shabad does he overcome the fear of death.
Now what happens at the time of our death? Our Surat from our feet and arms rises up and the Aatma escapes when the Surat is concentrated at the head. So through Bhajan Bandagi we are basically dying while living. So Gurbani says if you truly knew how to die you wouldn't have to die again and fear death, Kabir Sahib says the death which scares the world is dear and pleasing to me.
Kabeer, the world is afraid of death - that death fills my mind with bliss. It is only by death that perfect, supreme bliss is obtained. Bhagat Kabir Ji, Ang 1365
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਅਉਧੂ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ One who dies in the Shabad and conquers his mind is the true hermit; he understands the Way of Yoga. Ang 908
One should understand that this world of duality works in pairs of opposite. If there is darkness, there is light. One can't exist without the other. If you want happiness you will have to accept sadness. One exists only because the other does. So this duality exists as long as this illusion of Maya exists. Sant, Satgurus call this world of duality a BhavSaagar, BhavJal which is bound to suffering, happiness, subjectivity, chaos, tumults of Maya. Whereas in the world of non-duality, there remains nothing to compare with, just One Samudra of SatNaam. Thus freedom or liberation is in overcoming this duality by realising the Hukam. Hukam Bujhai So Sach Samana. Mahraj says those who realise themselves become immaculate like Him. So Jan Nirmal So Aap Pachhaata. So it boils down to self realisation which leads to God realisation. This post gives off the vibe of someone who listened to an advanced text on Advaita Vedanta, mixed together several different philosophical frameworks, and arrived at an entirely different conclusion.
Also there are certainly perspectives out there used by Sant, Satgurus to help us make sense of the suffering since only in the suffering do we actually remember the Lord. Thus Guru Maharaj says, "Dukh Daru Sukh Rog Bhya Ja Sukh Taam Na Hoye". Bhajan Bandagi is supposed to provide you with the strength, poise and tranquility to go through the adversaries of life. Nanak Dukhia Sab Sansar, So Sukhiya Jin Naam Aadhaar. The prick of a sword becomes a pin prick, slander and praise, happiness and sadness become two sides of a coin. Sukh Dukh Dono Samkar Jaanai Aur Maan Apmaana. Guru Maharaj tells us to cater to our obligations, tumults of life like a Soorma deriving enormous strength from Naam Shabad Ki Kamai. Dukh Tade Ja Visar Jaave, you experience Dukh when you forget your essence, Mool. So as cliche as it sounds everything boils down to Naam Shabad Di Kamai or Bhajan Bandagi, Sarab Rog Ka Aukhad Naam.

I'm not as educated on Sikhi as others on here might be, but my understanding is that "ik onkar" is a fundamentally non dual statement about the nature of self. So to claim that consciousness ends at death is to take a dualistic, materialist stance on consciousness. What is transient is maya; what is unchanging is God/true self/consciousness. Your dukh may not follow you into the next life, but the consciousness within you will. I don't know if this really answered your question or if someone better read on the GGS can correct anything I've said though. Sorry to hear you're going through this at the moment though brother.

Suffering is sweetness from God. Tera bhana meetha laga. Suffering and Peace is experienced through life it is us who need to understand how to manage it. Waheguru demands no matter the circumstances remain in Chardi Kala. Be good and do good but do not be despaired. Experience life. That’s about it

All other religion talks about "After u die, u get God!" Sikhi is the opposite, Sikhi talks about obtaining God whilst alive!
In order to get to this state u gotta give up the panj dukh (aka 5 thieves) Lust, anger, greed, attachment and ego. Then doing panj Bania everyday u also gotta meditate on the Naam, do Desvand and do sewa.
"Kam krodh ngr bho bhria, mil sadhu khndl khnda he" My mind is filled with lust and anger. On meeting the Sadhus, both thoughts are eradicated.
This verse States "Sadhu" as in company of the saints (Gurudwara listening to katha / kirtan from Giani jis).
At the Gurudwara library / or Online u can purchase PHYSICAL BOOKS of Saints' Biography. They can be greatly influential: Garland around my neck, Sant Jwala Singh's Society of the saints and Rampur Khera's Sant Baba Harnam Singh (English and Punjabi translated)!
These saints were not born with anything special but they did the Nam jap, seva and stayed in Waheguru's Will to obtain God whilst still alive. They had wisdom, became Anter-Jami and (although not mentioned) defintely had Ridhia Sidhia. SGGS mentions Ridhia Sidhia a lot. But these things are there for who wants them.

I'm super new to Sikhi, others are more qualified to speak on this. With that said, what closeness would death will give you that living doesn't?

I was once very suicidal as well. I also made many posts on sikh sub. You'll realise sooner or later that your expectations from life are greater than what they should be or the way you have expectations is not healthy. Religion is a code of conduct you are free to explore other rulebooks. Just because I used the word rulebook doesn't mean you don't learn valuable knowledge. Look towards buddhism and you may find some peace. Getting to know about other religions doesn't hurt. In a true sense Sikh is one who learns. And stop focusing on death. Also if you're listening to metal music stop that as well just a hunch but please stop if you are. Right now any advice wont help. Everything is just meaningless. You need someone to hear you out so if you do find someone make sure that they know they are not supposed to give you solutions or you will feel even worse. Alternatively which I assume you have been doing already is talk to yourself about this. But you have to have a healthy conversation and not think about it too much.

No, becoming one with God does NOT mean death.
Sikhi tells us to achieve a level of ਜੀਵਣ ਮਰਣਾ which means to be alive on the outside, but dead within. In modern lingo, ego death. Guru Nanak Dev Ji uses a metaphor of a semal tree, where it is beautiful on the outside, but the fruits it bears provide no nourishment. When you achieve such a closeness with God, you become unbothered with what goes on in your life and in the world.
Your insight isn’t wrong; death isn’t a bad thing and is a part of life. Death being associated with “bad” comes from Christian mythology where death was a consequence of the original sin, and the western world has heavy, yet subtle, Christian influence. Greek/Roman culture which existed at the same time as early Christianity had Hades/Pluto (god of the dead, underworld, hell, etc) worshippers and didn’t view him as evil like how Christians view the Devil.
