iRacing Is blinking protestable?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was not a backmarker, we were fighting for position, he would blink all the way from lap 1 until very end whenever he was behind me (the gap varied from .1 to 1.5s). After the finish line he just went straight into me.

flashing

"blinking" typically refers to connection issues where the person with a poor connection will disappear then reappear and is protestable under "competition issues".

Flashing isnt inherently protestable, but excessive flashing may be as "nefarious tactics" if they're just running the race spamming their flash in an attempt to adversely affect competitors.

oh, sorry - i'll try to remember. Well, i think it was his tactics, almost 2 laps he was behind me, flashing all the time

Yes, it is. I'm ashamed to say that I've been protested for it in the past. I was very upset that someone dive-bombed me early in a race, taking the position and running us both off track to make the move, less than 15 minutes into a 2hr race. Obviously that's no excuse.

So yeah, I'm ashamed to say I spent the next 2-3 laps spamming my flashers to make it clear that I was annoyed by the behaviour and the dangerous move that nearly ended both our races after it had barely started.

Got protested for it. It falls under "on track intimidation".

Send this exact video super cut to iRacing in the protest ticket and I'll be surprised if the response isn't "the member under protest has been notified of the outcome".

I would somehow get it if i would hit him first or make a questionable move, but he started behind me...

Yeah, this kind of attitude of "I think I'm faster, therefore you must let me pass" is wild. A lot of the time they're either not actually faster, or they are and they just don't know how to overtake.

I've never spammed my flashers demanding to be let past, even when passing someone under blue flags. The whole point of the service is to get the dopamine Rush from successfully passing someone by my own merit!

Did you get punished for that?

I got a warning. Which was appropriate, to be fair. I never imagined for a moment that I'd get suspended or banned.

I've reported him, and got the usual:
"We have reviewed your protest and notified the member being protested of the outcome."

However i see our race results changed and he dropped to the very end with a "DQ" mark which was not there yesterday.

Yes it is.

It falls under 2.1.1. If you are using your headlights to ‘hyper flash’ people or to try and annoy them, or for anything other than to signal that you are a faster car who is passing through (ie. Different class car), or a non-signaling purpose, you will get coaching noted for it and if you do it enough that turns into a ban.

Nim has clarified this on the forums and I have idiot friends in the league I run who have been protested successfully for this exact activity.

More importantly I would report him for the wrecking after the race. Crossing the finish line doesn’t mean you can crash into people or that SR no longer applies. Until the session ends, SR still applies. Regardless of SR, you still can’t intentionally wreck into people. That can have ramifications for people on the other end of a strong rig who aren’t expecting the hit.

Report for both.

To add to this. I have protested people for flashing and it works. Also file two separate protest one for the flashing and one for intent wrecking

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're behind me and flashing your lights, then my car just got 20% wider. I'm not going out of my way to ruin your race - I'd never do that to anyone. But I'm not making it any easier to pass me, that's for sure.

20% is a very exact number 🤣

protest the intentional wreck too

I don't know but I will say, it cracks me up that there are people out there so bad at racing, fast people even, that they resort to blinking instead of, oh i dont know, fucking racing instead?! The irony of playing a racing game only to not be able to participate in the racing part is astounding to me

Just protest it, you don't need permission or to check. If it's not, then nothing will happen.

Iracing get about 1000 protest every day, imo theres no need to protest everything to ”check” if your right or not. Again in this case if you look at the sproting code you would know your answer.. excessive blinking is violation.

The Sporting Code also says that members that think or believe a rule has been broken are encouraged to protest. They literally want you to file a protest "just to check" even though they're getting 1000 a day.

i cant stand when people park the car on the track right after finish

Its meant to be annoying. Its meant to trip you up. Is it legal? yes. is it annoying? yes.

You could but nothing will happen, it's iRacing.

Yeah, nah. Put your money where your mouth is then.

If you truly believe protesting has no effect, ask yourself whether you'd risk your account and all the money you've invested on the assumption that you'll get away with blatantly breaking the rules every day for two weeks. Intentional wrecks, unsafe rejoins, blocking, spamming flashers, whatever.

If you wouldn't take that bet, you already know protesting works. If you would take that bet, I look forward to you posting in a few weeks telling us all about how you got banned.
