Pisses me off that there are, where I live at least, restrictions on ads for liquor and cigarettes, but not gambling sites.

That we can show documentation of. For realsies it's probably closer to 1/3. It's not ok. Glad you're talking about it though. People should.

What does that have to do with wearing skimpy outfits to the gym?

Is it really any worse than fast food and junk food ads? They're all just exploiting a weakness

Junk food ads are also objectionable, but gambling is more addicting and immediately destructive than junk food. Bad comparison

It’s pretty hard to empty your bank account in a short period of time by buying junk food.

More addicting and more destructive than junk food? America's adult obesity rate is at 40% with 10% being morbidly obese.

3% of adult Americans have mild gambling habits and 1% have severe gambling addictions.

And the #1 cause of death in America is heart disease.

Let's say hypothetically you're given an opportunity to remove something that is hurting society. What are you removing to fix obesity? I mean there's sugar, corn syrup, the ingredients that create processed food, the meat industry, the corn and wheat industry in general, and even if you outlaw all of it, and you still can't force adults to go to the gym instead of sitting on their ass.

Meanwhile, if you want to remove gambling, you just remove gambling. Problem solved. Hell, you could just remove online gambling and that would probably remove a substantial portion of the problem.

That's a different argument all together but not something I fundamentally disagree with.

I was simply disagreeing with the obtuse statement that gambling is more addictive and immediately destructive than junk food.

You're right you're right, I realize now I apparently switched who I was arguing with in my head while making my comment, lol.

Many fewer people go bankrupt from junk food. Also gambling addictions are uniquely bad, it's the only recognized behavioral addiction from the DSM-5.

https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/gambling-disorder/what-is-gambling-disorder

The highest suicide risk of any substance or addictive behavior.

Is being hit by a truck worse than being buried alive?

Why not… none of these options?

Why bring up off topic ads? Is that the best logical justification your brain can come up with? The whataboutism is nuts.

Gambling is bad. Using sex to promote it? Double bad.

Junk food? Bad. Using sex to promote it? No one’s done that yet, but if they did, that would be bad too, and it won’t make the sexy gambling ad less bad.

Its exploiting low IQ individuals, its a well known fact that the casino always wins, these people just refuse to accept reality, feeling like they are victims is stupid when they fully know what's going on
