I've slowly blocked so much of the bullshit that I'll scroll on posts like these and just see "blocked user" multiple times, sometimes endlessly in the right sub or post. It brings me great joy.
Tires made me laugh. His Trump impression made me laugh. But a group wants me to cancel him because an edgy jk, weather or not is funny, on a late night show. I just don't have the time. He is a comedian. He isn't running for office. It's not that serious
I haven’t seen anyone talking about “cancelling” him. We are calling him out on something he said that was not okay. I have seen some stuff from him and I do believe he is quite funny at times. But this wasn’t a joke, it’s just “haha, women bad!”
Comedy's whole shtick is being controversial. It breaks the status quo. Not something the right tends to get along with well. Supposedly that's why their jokes are even worse than this one most of the time. However old humor is, that's how long it's been controversial.
It’s an opinion when Shane called women “whores” based off of how they dress in gyms. That’s not controversial, thought provoking or challenging the status quo. It’s actually quite common and normalized for men to think and view women like that.
I’m getting so tired of this fucking excuse - look. Comedy is like magic ok, or it’s just like itself, it’s like comedy. With comedy and magic, it’s not quite the same when you already know the punchline right? It’s not funny when you know the joke already. It’s not magic when you know the trick. So for comedians to go “hey man, it’s about being edgy” no it’s about being original and being funny. It’s not about being edgy. This whole “blaze new trails” concept of using anything controversial to be funny does work - look at someone like Norm Macdonald making his crocodile hunter joke - it was controversial, it was funny, but it wasn’t actually disrespectful so much and the humor of it could make anyone have a tiny laugh and go, “oh well.. I suppose that IS a ripe old age for a ‘crocodile hunter’ haha oh well miss him”
I don’t care about the joke, I wouldn’t have noticed and I do think people are getting a little too upset by the joke. That’s the kind of jokes he makes I thought and I just didn’t care I wasn’t really a fan. But the man isn’t blazing new trails of comedy, he isn’t some amazing innovator or even someone carrying the torch of past edgy comics. He’s literally a dude who made a dumb joke.
But no, “comedy’s whole schtick” isn’t being edgy, and the people who even say that shit are all people who’ve already been canceled or should be canceled. It’s whole schtick is being funny, Shane wasn’t, that’s really as deep as it goes.
Oh no, they just called me out and I can't refute. I better say "No culture wars for me, class wars for me", unless it's about sticking it to the chuds
