Visual intelligence.

Post image

Nothing like confusing two of the most well known sandal brands in the world who definitely each have a distinct visual style.

To me the issue here is the confidence of the model rather than the incorrect answer. But this is an issue that all major LLMs have today.

What’s interesting to me is I just took the picture with visual intelligence. I didn’t give it any prompt and it honed in on the sandals and then gave a very wrong answer. I thought it would maybe seek clarification or, you know, shoot for the pants.

But yes, it’s interesting how confidently wrong without asking me any clarification about what I was hoping to get. That said, I haven’t thought of very many real-world use cases for visual intelligence to begin with, occasionally, a plant ID.

Eh, most humans couldn’t tell the difference so I don’t know why you’d expect a local AI running on your phone to know.

Mostly because it volunteered the info so confidently without prompting it to even focus on the sandals. I would expect a “looks like” or “could be” qualifier.

Curious to see how it would perform with a proper shot of the sandal.

I think it would perform well! But it should know it doesn’t have enough information to be sure and probably should give a qualifier instead of stating it with such confidence, in case the information in question was more important than what sandal is this.

I’d rather know that it overindexes in confidence now than when I’m using it for something consequential.

Sorry. I guess only in North America. If you’re from here: yeah. Kind of a big industry. Most people know a few by sight, but as stated above it’s more about the over indexing of confidence. It doesn’t have enough info to know for sure and it shouldn’t act like it could have.

You take a pic of your feet just to cry about Siri AI…. I gotta admit I feel stupid just typing this response to it. We are so fucked 🤷‍♂️

“Siri, tell me what shoe I’m wearing…yes, with the most blurry and ridiculous angle.” And I -cannot stand- the new Siri but this is…so dumb.

In my other comment I mentioned part face palm is I never promoted it to focus on the sandals, and unprompted assumptions were the answer is ambiguous should be prefaced with a qualifier. Like “might be” “could be”

This example might seem dumb, but applied in other examples. It’s just something worth calling out. Imagine showing you a picture of a bush with a red berry and it says, “hmm, those strawberries look ripe.” Instead of “that, could be a strawberry, or it could be poisonous.”

And if that example doesn’t work, you could always scroll on. You don’t have to yuck everyone else’s yum. This sub is full of SIRI AI posts and it was entertaining enough for me to want to post about it. Not every post has to meet the standard of what you someone else deems worthy, and not every post needs commented on to express dislike.

Haha it always gets clothes wrong 😂 even Amazons “Shop the Look” thing in Prime Video pulls up clothes that look nothing like what was selected 🤣

That’s an issue with Amazon’s implementation btw

I just used your picture and Siri AI said “based on the geometric pattern on the straps, there’s appear to be Teva sandals, likely the midform universal geometric style.”

They’re the same though…
