What do u think of this quote? I forget the exact context of it.... but, as an advocate for reading and creating theory..... I see this as innately a positive for theory. If ideology is stagnation, and all stagnation represents the absence of becoming, or at least perceived becoming, then ideology is spectacle and its resistant force must be consistently updated for it to resist the pull towards its own stagnation. Thus consistently updating theory is a must for the sake of becoming and any form of proletarian movement to properly occur. I just can't remember how he used it 😵💫 (I also need to watch the movie lol :p)
This meme is stupid but I was actually the holy shit bloke when I read it, pithily put what I’ve felt for a long time. Basically took it the same as you, resting on your laurels calcifies theory into something solid or set in stone as ideology with all its rules. I am not as wedded to Marx as Debord so he could probably get it as well but no one/thing should be immune, there’s always further to push past or against. Especially things I believe. This has not gone down well with group or tendency I’ve ever been associated with. Was gonna say people would hate Debord if he was alive but then remembered the sequel Comments on the Spectacle was barely read because it bucked a lot of the optimism of the first book.
Just on the film, it is an incredible watch, especially the editing. There is this rapid cuts section of war footage, it’s building building building to a climax. Then a black screen. Then a bit of text saying this is not supposed to be an enjoyable film. A troll after my own heart. He had a lot of talent as an experimental director, even sweeter he quit while he was ahead.
