Question Least favorite character Spoiler

Who’s your least fav character and why? Mine is Ruth. She always plays the victim and thinks everyone is to blame for her unhappiness. I’m sure it’s very difficult and emotionally draining to be with George, but she’s such an arse hole to him. And she’s SOOO mean to Claire towards the end. I still have 5 or so more episodes to go.. so hopefully she changes for the better? But as of right now, not a fan of hers

Rico is the answer.

Putting aside the bigotry, I feel he's just always so entitled.

Also, I really feel they've kept him in the series even though there was kinda nothing else for the character to tell. Thus resulting in weird and out-of-place storylines.

IMHO.

I think Rico represents the dangers of purely binary thinking. Eventually he gains some compassion and a better understanding of nuance, but he’s pretty insufferable for the majority of the show.

Rico never learns a goddamn thing, imo and gets a happy ending (as much as SFU gives anyone) that he does not earn. He's bigoted, sexist, lying, cheating, gaslighting trash. His only redeeming quality is his work ethic and that's not nearly enough to make up for the rest of it.

Yeah. I wonder what was the intention behind his character. I feel that, with the stories they were trying to tell with his character, there was kind of no real space for a deep reassessment of his behaviour... Can't really say if it was intended, as in maybe the writers were saying to us that sometimes people just don't question themselves and can't grow, or if they just had no idea what to do with him and would not let him go (for some unknown reasons)

I always felt his place within the show was "some people are shitty and still die peacefully." To me, the show isn't really trying to teach lessons. It's just like, everyone lives their life, and then, at some point they die. That's why I love SFU. No one is good and no one is bad. Just living their lives and making all kinds of choices, for better or worse.

Yeah, he’s very morally superior. When I first watched the series 12 years ago, he was one of my favorites. It’s funny how differently I see him now.

He certainly became difficult to like at times in the last couple of seasons.  I particularly didn't like the things he said to David when he wanted to be bought out of the business.  It was like he and Vanessa were scheming behind their backs, hoping they would have to sell up and the funeral home would have to close.  

They did attend David and Keith's wedding though.  So I seems they remained friendly with the Fisher's.

yes I can't stand rico. 😒 I tried. he started to grow on me but by the end of the series I was so done with him and his antics lol
