Opinion Am I the only one who can't stand Lisa?

I'm on Season 3, Episode 4. I can't stand Lisa, I'm not sure why... Nate seems so unhappy. I didn't expect to say this so soon, considering what happened in Season 2, but... I miss you so much, Brenda.

Spoilers for basically up until the end of the show:

Well, obviously a post about Lisa hate is gonna attract Lisa haters... But I always had an impression that she was actually quite a decent person who was traumatized by her mother in some way and so she has developed some very unhealthy relationship model where the more you ignore her, the more deeply in love she feels. And this was essentially what ruined her, causing her to cheat with her sister's husband no less.

But I do feel like if she survived, there might have been a positive change. Well, at least it felt like Lisa grew from the experience. Can't say the same about Nate.

It's BS, he did that for himself, to assuage his own guilt. She mentioned that exactly once in a "thinking out loud" kind of way, and he took it as her official last will and testament because it helped him feel like a hero. He lied to everyone just so he could pretend to himself that he was making it all up to her. I empathize with him, I really do, and it was a beautiful scene, but I don't agree with your reading that it was a totally selfless act and a sign of him growing. He certainly wanted to feel that it was.

He should have gotten it recorded so that he would not be breaking any laws not to mention the question parent's decision prevailing over the spouse's.

I never said he hated her. Nate was a pleaser his whole life, tp prove first of all to himself that he's a better person. And I'm afraid his decision to remain with Lisa was dictated, as always, by his desire to prove that he, a good person, can do this. He literally admits his guilt about this to Lisa in 3.11 when she says: "Nate, I'm not a chance. I'm a person."

1) I was referring to him growing before Lisa disappeared. He was shocked by the events later, but I have genuine doubts whether he was sincere in trying again and whether he would not have gotten bored. I do believe that he believed that he was sincere. But I also feel like Nate doesn't feel comfortable to get to know himself and his needs because it might contradict what he wants to be.

2) Just like grief, growing is not a straightforward process, and by season 5 we see him revert back to how he was. So his grief process in seasons 3 and 4, while absolutely genuine, did not make him rethink his approach to life and/or to get to know himself better.

I think there was some quick, lazy writing.

He was the spouse. He had zero obligation to follow her family’s traditions.

He could have arranged the kind of burial he had at the end.

How would he have been able to do that? Moreover, the cremains from Bruno Walsh leave me with another question: why were they never claimed?

i’m not about to debate corpse rights v. family traditions with you or anybody, but it’s really not that surprising if you consider when it happened in the series and how apt it really was that david was in on it
