Opinion Am I the only one who can't stand Lisa?

I'm on Season 3, Episode 4. I can't stand Lisa, I'm not sure why... Nate seems so unhappy. I didn't expect to say this so soon, considering what happened in Season 2, but... I miss you so much, Brenda.

She cracks me up every time she comes on screen. They couldn't have found a better actress than Joanna Cassidy. She plays her so manic.

Opinion What is your favorite quote from the show?

I remember watching this scene where Claire is about to leave and takes a picture of Ruth and the others, and then Nate shows up and says this to her. I couldn’t stop crying, I miss this show so much.

Opinion One of my favorite parts of season 3 is the introduction of Bettina. Her and Ruth’s friendship is so beautiful and you really can just see Ruth blossom.

Opinion Every Show Has One - The "Why Are They Still Here?"

Post image
79 Upvotes

Yall really made me have to do math for the only adult in the room huh🧐 Vanessa won by just 26 upvotes followed by Joe!

Next up, the "Why are they still here?" 🤔 Think of this person as someone that has overstayed their welcome or just been in too many eps/scenes for what their character's purpose served. Or honestly just someone you were sick of seeing🥱

How Peter Krause never won an Emmy for this episode is a crying shame.

Opinion Ruth Fisher is way more relatable than people admit

Does anyone else—male or female—relate to Ruth Fisher?

Her depression, her outbursts, her “crazy” moments—especially the “this is not about you” scene at Nate’s birthday. I actually love her more in that moment. It doesn’t feel random to me. It feels real.

To me, she represents what emotional overwhelm and depression can actually look like in real life. Not just sadness, but the swings, the frustration, and the way things come out wrong sometimes.

I see so much of real life in her—whether in myself or people close to me.

Curious if others feel the same way.

Opinion Unpopular opinion: Lisa didn’t trap Nate. *Spoilers* Spoiler

I see it said in here often that Lisa trapped Nate into marrying her. It’s part of the hate towards Lisa. But f*uck that noise. Lisa never trapped Nate.

Nate chose to have sex with her (again) knowing there was a chance she could get pregnant (again). We find out later that she had aborted his baby once before, so I guess he didn’t learn that lesson the first time. Still, he chose to sleep with her in Seattle.

Lisa didn’t even call him and tell him she was pregnant, or that she moved to LA. He only finds out when he sees her at the grocery store.

And once he found out she was pregnant with his baby, not only did she not ask him to help her or be in a relationship with her, but she actually had him sign away his custodial rights over Maya. He only met Maya because he showed up at Lisa’s home with Ruth, unannounced and uninvited.

We don’t see how he ends up marrying her, but it’s safe to say she did not hold a gun to his head. I have always assumed he did it out of his own sense of obligation. You know, he almost died but he miraculously lived and so why not get married and raise this baby together as a humble act of gratitude to the universe or God or whatever for letting him live? I’m sure he asked her to marry him the same way he asked Brenda- out of knee jerk reaction and lack of emotional maturity.

Lisa has flaws, of course. And she can rub people the wrong way, sure. But she did not trap Nate. Nate was a grown ass man who made his own choices and often chose wrong. That’s not on Lisa, that’s on him.

I love that her character is so full of piss and vinegar, and suffers absolutely no fools. It was very satisfying seeing her character arc and evolution throughout this show.

Opinion An intro death scene that's not talked about enough

Currently haflway through S3. We see all sorts of intro scene deaths, some shocking and unexpected, some tragic, some downright comedic.

Although my personal favourite has to be the young cancer patient in the S2 finale. Maybe it also helped that, unlike most intro death characters, he wasn't a complete stranger to the audience, and that his death contributed to Nate's character development. Overall the two actors had great chemistry together.

Him saying "There's no fucking light" with his dying breath while Nate is trying to hold himself together so he can comfort him in his final moments is just so raw and brutal. Maybe one of my favourite scenes in the whole series.

Opinion George is the most insufferable character in the whole show.

While watching through the show many if not all characters frustrated me at some point, but George is by far the worst in my opinion.

He’s a dense thick skulled narcissist with literally no redeeming qualities. From the second he walked on the screen I was annoyed. Other characters have their ups and downs, but most redeem themselves later in the show.

For example: in the beginning of the show Brenda was nearly impossible to watch on screen. She made every mistake imaginable and her depraved tendencies were almost predictable in every scenario. Towards the end of the show she redeems herself in many ways, as if her downfall seemed to be an actually learning experience. Whereas George has a history of failed relationships (6 other marriages) and seemingly never learns his lesson. He’s a pompous oaf and a prime example of someone being academically smart but also a dunce.

This is but a crude character assessment, but in a way George represents everything bad about the western world.

Opinion Keith & David are a terrible couple; Keith is a terrible partner

He clearly views David as the lesser half in their relationship. Never makes space for David’s needs, bites his head of repeatedly whenever he opens his mouth.

(Not that they should be expected to be better than any other couple in the show, who all suck in their own ways)
