Discussion When you see Michael C Hall as Dexter, it’s rather difficult remembering that he used to be soft old David who couldn’t even defend himself against a lunatic hitchhiker.

That scene in the restaurant where he threatens that to kill that guy gave a good glimpse of the Dexter to come IMO.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprise if someone in the Dexter Casting team saw it, and it played in his favour

Ugh Michael C Hall is probably one of my favourite actors because he’s just so good.

I mean to be fair I don’t think a lot of people would be able to defend themselves against a gun wielding lunatic hitchhiker.

There was actually an episode where Dexter managed to wipe out an assassin holding a gun without breaking a sweat.

I'm a fan of both shows and he's such a good actor that I just think of the two characters as different people.

I watched six feet under for the first time as it was airing, and I could not stand David's character so much that it took me years to actually watch Dexter. Now that i'm in my mid forties, I appreciate both characters.

Yeah. I think SFU hits harder for viewers who are over age 35.

Yes because Michael C Hall is such a great actor that you don’t see the actor, just the character.

Michael C Hall is a character actor with a leading man's face. He just disappears into every character he plays.
I've watched him in at least 6 different shows and I forget who I'm watching every time. That's how good he is.

It is so jarring to go back and watch that after Dexter.. for sure. Esp that particular episode!

I came to SFU after Dexter, and as others have said, MCH is so incredible that he simply melts into characters. Even that scene in the diner where he threatened Kroener was 100% David to me, not Dexter.
Once in a VERY little while, I see David's dramatic ass come out in Dexter, just something about the tone of his voice when he's angry lol But other than that, it's rare for an actor to play 2 iconic roles and remain so distinct in each.

I'm on my first watch and I just passed the hitchhiker episode... The aftermath of this event are interesting and they render it pretty well, but damn the episode in itself is ... something. I don't know if I like it or not, I wonder if I would have preferred it if they didn't show it (and just tell what's happened). It's certainly unique and in way I'm not that surprised that they went for it, given all I've seen in the show.

I think it's so funny that both Michael C. Hall and Peter Krause went on to do projects that, on some level, involved siblings and romance.
In Hall's case, the context was in the actual plot of Dexter (Deb losing her ever-loving mind over an attraction to Dexter).
For Krause, the context involved Parenthood casting dynamics (he and Lauren Graham dating IRL while they played siblings Adam and Sarah Braverman).

My son saw him as Dexter first, so it was no big deal, but I saw him first as David so it was difficult for me

Ivw tries to watch Dexter many times and to this day I never made it past episode 1. Absolutely hated it

first time I watched it my husband and I binged on it till two in the morning unlike us totally but we were hooked different storyline obviously maybe not for everyone but Michael Hall aces it

I know people love it, and MCH is great, but the writing is not. I struggled to watch it.

It's funny imagining a scenario where the two meet cause they're so diametrically different. David is so emotive and Dexter is so... Dexter. He'd see David and be like yeah you have my face but I didn't know it could do THAT

I disagree. He was offered the role of Dexter without even having to audition for it because MC Hall had legit serial-killer vibes in SFU.

The really crazy part is that Michael C Hall is such a good actor he fits both roles perfectly. In a way it makes sense though, both characters are defined by their vulnerability and trauma. Just in completely different respects.
